either way Chris is usually great so I think he was just pandering to a certain audience and got a bit carried away lol
@Chris what did you think of the comms kayfabe stuff? curious of your take on it
nah I get your point - I knew what he was doing but he was over doing it and it got to become cringey. esp during omegas entrance n stuff like that when it was not relevant.
it's also a bit odd the face commentator is siding with the heel, regardless how passionate Gabe was, he was still talking a lot of bollocks and you need a commentator to be like "well Gabe is passionate but here's reality" to balance it out . I can imagine a few aew fans might be turned off by commentary like that when there's no actual promotional rivalry angle setup so if ur not super plugged into njpw u think he's shooting
Could be fun if they can turn it into the competition rivalry show down the lineI think even one of the heads of NJPW came out and said "yeah we didn't really sell it as either" so just not the place for it tbh
For sure he has for quite awhile and we never really think about it after all the New Japan Shows you and I watched over the Years. Now to other people who watch once in awhile it's like woah what they did he sayHonestly Chris has said those things before and I'm pretty sure they've always been in jest so I barely noticed. I don't think it can be argued they added anything though. They're funny on a little tour show but on a show this big it was more jarring yeah.
The thing about the stuff Charlton said is that it makes for a great storyline when Okada returns. Other stuff probably didn’t need to be said…but he also wasn’t wrong shitting on the continental classic vs G1. He just wasn’t. Until the G1 is two top guys we didn’t even make top guys in opposite brackets and everyone else is randomly plucked from the no chance in hell but we don’t want to beat our top guys defeating the entire reason the tournament we are copying is amazing part of the roster, at least. Either way…the Okada stuff is all going to pay off one day. He left in a way that has the young workers pissed. Those future matches when they’re all established are going to hit like crack.
It’s pretty well confirmed Okada refused any bookings with the young guys. They set up an entire storyline for it. Set up a block of G1 for it. Then he told them he was leaving and wouldn’t be doing any of that. I love Okada. My favorite wrestler maybe ever. But when time came to repay anything the company had fed to him coming up…he said nah and bounced. When the company needed it most. I’d be pissed. The young workers shouldn't be pissed at Okada he's not in the higher ups or booker in Gedo putting the Matches together. It was the Company of New Japan to get the young guys ready no matter if Okada was leaving for AEW or not years prior. They should only take their angers on them vs Okada I feel
