Ya'll are right Teeny-Pop sucks, but I'm sure the equivalent existed back when you were young'ns (and I'm betting some of you may have even bought such stuff! ;o] ). It's just an effective way for the major record companies to procure pocket-money ("allowance" in US speak) from all the little kiddies whilst they simultaneously sit back and let all their M.O.R., so-called mature music stars like Michael Bolton, Sting or [insert you're 'favourite' middle-aged cunt here] do the same for the 40 somethings market...
The hardest thing for the music mainstream to do is to stay on top of the late-teens > 30s market because that's where the majority of so called credible music is consumed(and where the muscial landscape changes the most) and no matter how hard they try they are just not 'on the pulse' enough to keep up (which is why when they do find someone that has shifted a fair amount amount for them on their debut release for that company, they sign them up to a fat as fuck long-term contract and slowly but surely homogonise them of what made them appealiing in the first place so that they can eventually milk their investment by selling said artists "ain't as good as they used to be" material to 40+/mellowing age-group market.
As is the case with any mass marketting, if you don't fall into a convenient little box/demographic then these peeps haven't got a clue how to communicate with you and this is where the mainstream distribution of music FOR MUSICS SAKE (not $$$s) falls on it's ass.
Anyone who simply decides what music they like based on what they hear on the radio and MTV has not decided their own tastes at all... Simply picked what is, in their opinion, the best of what has been advertised to them.
There's a world of music out there that you'll never hear unless you get a little closer to the source... The artists websites, independent music media, fan-zines, non-mainstream 'clubs' where the emphasis is on the music, concerts (and actually bothering to be there for the support acts) and here's the favourite.... Actually going to a music store and listening to something you may not have heard before.
Bottom line, it's not that difficult to avoid the kind of shit music that's being dissed here and in a day and age when so many people steal their music via (illegal downloads etc.), if you don't have to spend any money on your taste in music, why not spend a little time instead?
