WCW Halloween Havoc - October 29th, 2000
Las Vegas, Nevada

WCW Tag Team Championship;
Elimination Match:
The Dudley Boyz (c) vs. Dean Malenko and Jamie Noble vs. Edge and Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz

Four teams going at it, so this one starts exactly as you’d expect it to, there’s absolute carnage. Bodies are flying everywhere, however being the villainous team of the match, Edge and Christian are targeted by the other three teams. After being pinballed around the ring, Edge and Christian head to the outside, looking for a reprieve. Inside of the ring, Jeff Hardy and Malenko exchange a strange look… JEFF AND MALENKO HIT STEREO PLANCHAS TO TAKE DOWN EDGE AND CHRISTIAN ON THE OUTSIDE!!!

The strange sight of unlikely teamwork gets a big pop from the fans, but now things breakdown between the fan favourites inside of the ring. Noble and Matt Hardy are forced to team together to defend themselves from the champs, and they go a relatively good job. Suddenly, Noble extracts himself from the fight, and manages to climb up to the top rope. After dropping D’Von with an epic right hand, Matt turns to find Noble… NOBLE LANDS A BIG CROSSBODY OFF THE TOP ROPE!!!

The Redneck is immediately back to his feet, but he walks straight into a DOUBLE FLAPJACK FROM THE DUDLEYS!!!

NOBLE KICKS OUT!!!

Our champions are looking strong early, owning the ring, but instead of staying on Noble, they are distracted by Jeff Hardy re-entering the ring. Hardy tries to swing wild rights and lefts at both members of The Dudleyz, but they easily overwhelm him. Bubba then drops Jeff with a Scoop Slam, as D’Von ascends to the top rope. Bubba lifts and spreads Hardy’s legs, and he and D’Von let out a “WASSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP”””… AND THE WASSUP HEADBUTT CONNECTS!!!

Jeff rolls around on the mat, grabbing at his groin area, whilst The Dudleyz stalk him. They wait for him to get to his feet and when they do… D’VON ATTEMPTS TO GET JEFF UP… 3D!!!

NO!!! MALENKO TAKES DOWN BUBBA WITH A DOUBLE LEGGED TAKEDOWN…

AND IMMEDIATELY LOCKS IN THE TEXAS CLOVERLEAF!!!

CHRISTIAN AND EDGE BREAK UP THE COUNT!!!

Everybody is a little confused by that choice by the blonde Canadians, however on commentary they talk about how an elimination match isn’t a usual scenario. Potentially, Edge and Christian interrupted that fall on instinct alone. They begin stomping all over Jeff, keeping him down… UNTIL MATT COMES OFF THE TOP ROPE… NAILING THEM WITH A DOUBLE FLYING CLOTHESLINE!!!

On the other side of the ring, Malenko is still torturing Bubba with the Texas Cloverleaf! Malenko doesn’t notice D’Von approaching from behind, D’Von grabs Malenko from behind… LIFTING REVERSE DDT BREAKS THE HOLD!!!

Both men scramble to their feet, however Noble is quicker than D’Von and manages to run through him with a Clothesline. Unfortunately for Noble, Matt Hardy then grabs him and hoists him up onto his shoulders, in an Electric Chair position. Matt turns to face the corner of the ring which his brother Jeff has sneakily climbed to the top rope in… DOOMSDAY CROSSBODY!!!

EDGE AND CHRISTIAN PULL JEFF OFF THE COVER THIS TIME!!!

Now even the audience begins to murmur, confused with that decision by the former champs. They quickly grab Jeff and throw him outside of the ring, before heading out to double team him. It isn’t long until Matt Hardy notices and joins the fray on the outside, and the long time rivals brawl on the outside.

Inside of the ring, Bubba notices that Noble is in a lot of trouble, so he grabs Malenko and throws him through the middle rope and to the outside. Bubba and D’Von then focus in on Noble, who’s forced to use the ropes to get to his feet. As Noble turns towards the centre of the ring… 3D!!!

Elimination #1 – Dean Malenko and Jamie Noble @ 6:03

As Noble rolls out of the ring to join Malenko on the outside, The Dudleyz slap each other some five. After taking a moment to admire their handiwork, they are both men with DOUBLE DROPKICKS… BUBBA BY EDGE AND CHRISTIAN AND D’VON BY THE HARDYZ!!!

It turns out the elimination distracted the other teams from the brawl on the outside. Edge and Christian continue to focus on Bubba, sending him into a corner of the ring. Edge gets on his knees in front of Bubba and Christian sprints towards them… POETRY IN MOTION STYLE CROSSBODY FROM CHRISTIAN!!!

Meanwhile, in the opposite corner, The Hardyz have sent D’Von in and Matt charges in with a Corner Clothesline! As Matt steps away, Jeff crashes in with a Corner Clothesline as well. Once Jeff steps away, D’Von looks to stagger out of the corner, where Matt meets him with a kick to the gut… TWIST OF FATE!!!

NO!!! EDGE AND CHRISTIAN PUSH BUBBA INTO MATT… BREAKING IT UP!!!

CHRISTIAN GETS A SHOULDER UP!!!

Surprised at Christian’s resilience, Bubba gets to his feet, but Matt Hardy greets him with a kick to the mid-section… FOLLOWED BY A DDT!!!

With Bubba laid out and dazed, the multi coloured hair Hardy decides to head to the top rope. The fans begin buzzing in anticipation, knowing Jeff is thinking SWANTON BOMB…

NO!!! BEFORE JEFF CAN JUMP OFF, EDGE TAKES OUT HIS LEGS, CROTCHING HIM ON THE TOP ROPE!!!

After landing a few right hands for good measure, Edge climbs up after Jeff to continue to pummel him. Now that Jeff is dazed, Edge hooks him for the Superplex, however D’Von comes from underneath and looks to carry Edge away from the corner in an Electric Chair position. Edge maintains his grip on Jeff, and as D’Von sends Edge crashing down… IT’S THE DOOMSDAY SUPERPLEX SPOT!!!

All three men stay down, as the fans applaud in appreciation, UNTIL BOTH EDGE AND D’VON DRAPE AN ARM OVER JEFF AT THE SAME TIME…

MATT HARDY DIVES TO BREAK UP THE COUNT!!!

Before he can do anything else, Matt gets pulled to his feet by his hair from Christian. An angry Christian hammers away with rights, backing Matt against the ropes, before charging at him… CHRISTIAN CLOTHESLINES MATT OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

Right next to where Christian just disposed of Matt, Edge grabs D’Von and unspectacularly throws him through the middle rope and to the outside. Edge and Christian keep an eye on Matt and D’Von, who use each other to get back to their feet… AND CHRISTIAN LOOKS FOR HIS SPRINGBOARD TRIANGLE PLANCHA!!!

MATT SLIDES INTO THE RING TO AVOIDS IT…

BUT CHRISTIAN STILL TAKES OUT D’VON!!!

Edge’s eyes go wide in shock, so he runs at Matt aggressively… MATT BACK BODY DROPS EDGE OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

AND EDGE LANDS ON HIS OWN PARTNER!!!

Edge, Christian and D’Von are all a mess on the outside, leaving The Hardyz and Bubba inside the ring. Bubba Ray uses the ropes to pull himself up, but he’s forced to lean against the corner to remain in the ring. Sensing the urgency here, Matt quickly approaches Bubba and tees off with some right hands, before getting on his hands and knees. Jeff runs towards them… POETRY IN MOTION!!!

Bubba stumbles out of the corner, and instead of going for the Twist of Fate, Matt changes things up and hits a Neckbreaker! Whilst this was happening, Jeff has made his way back to the familiar top rope… SWANTOM BOMB!!!

IT CONNECTS!!!

As Jeff sells the impacts of the high risk move, MATT JUMPS ON THE COVER…

Elimination #2 – The Dudley Boyz @ 10:28

Potentially a bit of a shock as the disappointed Dudleyz roll out of the ring, meaning we are guaranteed to have NEW tag team champions tonight. Seeing Edge and Christian are still on the outside, an eager Jeff Hardy climbs out of the ring. He then runs around ringside, leaping onto the crowd barricade… RAILRUNNER TAKES OUT BOTH EDGE AND CHRISTIAN!!!

Watching closely, Matt is on the outside now as well, and he and his brother decide to focus on Edge. Getting cheers from the fans, The Hardyz roll Edge back inside. Edge scrambles to his feet, backing away, begging for mercy, but The Hardy Boyz land a few punches each, before sending Edge to the opposite corner. Matt runs over and gets on his hands and knees in front of Edge, as Jeff starts sprinting towards them… POETRY IN MOTION!!!

NO!!! EDGE DUCKS AND JEFF FLOATS OVER THE TURNBUCKLE… COLLIDING AWKWARDLY WITH THE RING POST…

AND THEN TAKING ANOTHER NASTY FALL TO THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!!

JEFF JUST JUMPS IN AND BREAKS THE COUNT!!!

Jeff valiantly makes the save, although still clearly favouring his body after his bad bump. He’s slow to his feet, which allows a furious Edge and Christian to begin pummelling him. They then whip Jeff into the corner, before charging in after him… BUT JEFF TAKES THEM BOTH OUT WITH THE WHISPER IN THE WIND!!!

Everybody is down after that, as the fans have some urgency behind them, cheering on The Hardy Boyz. In tremendous pain, Matt rolls out to the floor, looking to lean against the apron and regroup. As he’s doing so, he keeps an eye on Christian who slides out from the opposite side, and Christian grabs a STEEL CHAIR!!!

Christian slides into the ring with the chair, but it’s right in front of the referee. The referee vehemently objects, looking to grab the chair and discard it, whilst continuing to argue with Christian. Matt looks confused on the outside, and slides back into the ring… ONLY TO BE DRAGGED BACK OUT OF THE RING…

AND NAILED WITH AN ANGLE SLAM ON THE FLOOR!!!

KURT ANGLE has just taken out Matt Hardy!!! The fans boo loudly, as Angle immediately sprints back up the ramp and out of sight. With the damage being done, Christian acts as if he finally agrees with the referee and throws the chair outside the ring. With Matt having disappeared, a desperate Jeff throws himself at Christian, landing ugly looking rights and lefts.

Christian has no choice but to cover up and absorb the barrage, until JEFF TURNS RIGHT INTO A SPEAR FROM EDGE!!!

Elimination #3 – The Hardy Boyz @ 14:54

WINNERS: EDGE AND CHRISTIAN VIA PINFALL at 14:54. EDGE AND CHRISTIAN WIN THE WCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The heat is GIGANTIC as in essence, we are right back where we started. Edge and Christian have recaptured the tag titles, beating their main rivals in The Hardy Boyz in the process.

The duo is ecstatic, celebrating as the fans continue to voice their displeasure. Edge and Christian do not mind though, after being shut out ever so briefly, they are on top once again…

BACKSTAGE – THE FLOCK LOCKER ROOM

The WCW World Heavyweight Champion RAVEN sits in a corner, contemplative look on his face as ever. More the life of the party are HOLLYWOOD HOGAN and SCOTT STEINER, who pace and bicep flex like only they can, ready for their own respective matches. The rest of THE FLOCK do whatever it is they do, they’re not overly important for this segment.

Hollywood Hogan:
Let me tell you somethin’, dudes. Tonight, I’m gonna’ go out there, and Hollywood is gonna’ run wild with these twenty FIVE, that’s right, I’ve been pumping iron like only a bronze adonis like myself can, and they’ve grown brother. With these weapons of mass destruction, I promise to end Chris Benoit and show that all Canadians suck.

Hogan is pumped and ready, as he continues to perform his bodybuilder routine, when Steiner flexes some more as well.

Scott Steiner:
You take care of Benoit, and I’ll take care of two other pipsqueaks. I throw a better Lariat than Scott Norton and tonight I’ll prove it. And as for Goldberg, he just got back, but ‘The Big Bad Booty Daddy’ is going to send him to the hospital all over again.

They’re all relatively in celebration mode, except for their leader. Slowly, Raven removes himself from his mind and takes centre stage. The room immediately goes quiet.

Raven:
I look forward to seeing you to enjoy the fruits of victory AFTER your matches, just like I will. DDP was good once, but the sand in the hourglass stops for nobody. This is the year two thousand, and if it’s not already over, DDP’s time is slipping away. Tonight, at Halloween Havoc, time officially passes DDP by, because it doesn’t matter who you are, nobody in the WCW can stop me.

Definitely a darker tone and mood to Raven than the rest of The Flock, as the camera slowly fades away…

WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match:
Dick Togo (c) w/Kaz Hayashi
defends against Juventud Guerrera

As awesome as he is, Togo has no answers for Juvi in the early stages. It’s a spot fest, it’s Juvi’s type of match, and having not had a championship opportunity in quite a long time, Guerrera is determined to make the most of it. He runs and jumps around, keeping Togo at a wits end, and Guerrera is on a roll, until he bounces off the ropes… AND KAZ HAYASHI GRABS HIS FOOT FOR JUST A MOMENT!!!

It's a glancing grip, not enough to make Juvi trip, but he does stop in his tracks. Guerrera looks down at Hayashi, furious, and he yells what we can only assume is an insult in Mexican. After pointing menacingly at the interfering party, Juvi turns back to the centre of the ring, but Togo takes his head off with a Clothesline!

This allows Togo to take over and we get the heat period of the match, where the champion beats down his smaller challenger. Togo uses his strength advantage to keep Juvi grounded, however he also sends Juvi to the outside numerous times as well. Surprisingly, Togo doesn’t follow Juvi out, instead opting to keep the referee busy so Hayashi can tee off on Guerrera.

This and Togo’s domination continues for a few minutes, but he’s unable to put Juvi away. Eventually, after landing a few right hands, Togo Irish whips Juvi to the ropes… BUT JUVI RETURNS WITH A SPINNING WHEEL KICK!!!

Having been beaten up pretty substantially, Juvi remains down after the move. Meanwhile, Togo flapped his arms, doing his best to try and remain on his feet, but eventually stumbles backwards, falling through the ropes and to the outside. After the embarrassing landing, Hayashi hurries to Togo’s side, trying to urge him to his feet. Kaz goes a step further, trying to forcefully lift Togo to his feet… WHEN AIR JUVI TAKES OUT BOTH MEMBERS OF KAIENTAI!!!

The typical Cruiserweight high risk move gets a nice cheer from the fans. Looking down at both men, Juvi chooses to ignore Hayashi, and drags Togo up, rolling him back inside the ring. Now that the champion is reeling on the outside, Guerrera gets onto the apron, awaiting Togo to get back to his feet… SPRINGBOARD FLYING HURRICANRANA!!!

Togo’s body goes flying across the ring, so Juvi is forced to hurriedly crawl over, AND JUVI HOOKS THE LEG…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

TOGO KICKS OUT WITH AUTHORITY!!!

The aggressive kick out shows that Togo still has plenty left in the tank, but Juvi nods his head, ready to dish it out. He lands a couple of stomps on Togo, before once again heading to the apron, and this time climbing up to the top rope. Juvi remains perched on top, when Togo ushers the referee over… SO HAYASHI CAN CLIMB ON THE APRON AND CROTCH JUVI ON THE TOP ROPE!!!

The fans are at a fever pitch now, frustrated at the interference. Hayashi remains on the apron, encouraging Togo on what to do next… WHEN KAZ IS RIPPED OFF THE APRON…

BY BILLY KIDMAN!!!

Our former Cruiserweight Champion is here to save the day. Hayashi is in complete shock, but Kidman doesn’t allow him to react further. Kidman tees off with right hands, and Kaz has no option but to try and create some distance. He ends up heading up the ramp and to the back, with Kidman in hot pursuit.

It looks like we’ll get a fair match now, but Juvi is still in a very compromising position. Fully recovered, Togo is quick to climb up top, and hoist Juvi onto his shoulders whilst remaining on the top rope… SUPER SAMOAN DROP!!!

Togo has the wind knocked out of him as well, SO TOGO LAYS ON GUERRERA FOR THE COVER…

NO!!!

JUVI GETS HIS FOOT ON THE BOTTOM ROPE!!!

There’s a sense of frustration from the exhausted Togo as he obviously thought that would be it. He brings Juvi back up and drags him towards the centre of the ring. Our Cruiserweight Champion kicks Juvi in the gut, before shoving Juvi’s head between his legs… POWERBOMB!!!

NO… JUVI ESCAPES AND LANDS ON HIS FEET BEHIND TOGO!!!

As soon as he lands, Guerrero hits a hard forearm to the back of Togo’s neck. Whilst Togo grabs at his neck, feeling it, Juvi real hurriedly heads to the apron. A furious Togo turns around, straight into a SPRINGBOARD MISSILE DROPKICK!!!

JUVI HOOKS THE LEG…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

TOGO GETS A SHOULDER UP!!!

Momentum on his side, Juvi doesn’t let the setback distract him. He lands a few stomps on the now unmoving Togo, before heading up to the top rope district yet again. Sensing a lack of movement from Togo, Juvi takes a deep breath, and leaps off the top…450 SPLASH!!!

IT LANDS…

RIGHT ON TOGO’S RAISED KNEES!!!

Guerrera immediately gasps for air, struggling, as he tries to roll to his back and catch his breath. Noticing this, Togo rushes to his feet, and now it’s Togo’s time to head up top. Juvi is still in pain… SO TOGO COMES OFF WITH THE DIVING SENTON!!!

AND IT LANDS!!!

TOGO ROLLS OVER AND MAKES THE COVER….

WINNER: DICK TOGO VIA PINFALL at 9:35. DICK TOGO RETAINS THE WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Despite having some help in the early stages, in the end Togo finds a way on his own. The fans aren’t happy yet again, but Togo doesn’t care, as he celebrates with the title, basking in his victory…

BACKSTAGE – RANDOM HALLWAY

Opting to get ready alone tonight, as opposed to with his fellow Horsemen is none other than ‘The Nature Boy’, RIC FLAIR. He’s clearly warmed up, just finishing tying up one of his classic flashy robes, before he looks up towards the camera. There’s less ‘Naitch’ like confidence on Flair’s face tonight, instead he looks deadly serious.

Ric Flair:
I know tonight is going to be difficult, and I know that tonight, Vader will make me pay the price of a professional wrestler. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. I have what it takes to beat Vader because I’ve done it before. My prediction tonight is that I will be the first person to make Vader tap out.

For the first time tonight, the fired up Flair lets out something resembling a smirk.

Ric Flair:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Flair straightens up his robe, having said his piece, and seemingly ready for the huge challenge he has tonight…

***

RINGSIDE

Tony Schiavone:
Apologies ladies and gentlemen, we would just like to take a moment to clear the confusion. It seems like Ric Flair may be mistaken as his fellow Horseman; Chris Benoit has already made Vader tap out. He did this to win the WCW Title back in August.

Dusty Rhodes:
Ya’ know, Flair and Benoit haven’t exactly been getting along all that well lately. The tension in the air has been thick, and I wonder if that’s why Flair might not be wanting to acknowledge Benoit’s achievement tonight.

Lucha Tag Rules Match:
Billy Kidman, D’Lo Brown, Rey Mysterio and Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. CIMA, Kaz Hayashi, Lance Storm and William Regal

This one is absolute mayhem from the beginning. It’s a spot fest to begin, with the heavy Cruiserweight division influence, as they all run around looking to impress. It’s a relatively even affair, with the ring constantly clearing, until Tajiri stands tall in the centre of the ring. Each member of the opposition approaches, and he’s able to keep them at bay with kicks. Eventually the heels all bail to the outside yet again, with only CIMA remaining in the ring.

‘The Japanese Buzzsaw’ continues with his vicious strikes on CIMA, before staggering him with a Karate Blitz. CIMA remains on his feet, albeit spaghetti legged, and Tajiri bounces off the ropes… BUT STORM GRABS TAJIRI’S ARMS… STOPPING HIM FROM RUNNING AT CIMA!!!

Tajiri manages to squirm out of Storm’s grip, and he decks him with a right hand, sending Storm falling off the apron. Abusive words follow from Tajiri, as he’s not happy with Storm, CIMA RUNS AND HITS A DOUBLE KNEE CHARGE RIGHT INTO THE BACK OF TAJIRI!!!

Just like that, Tajiri crumbles to the canvas and the match completely changes. CIMA and Tajiri become the legal men, everybody else goes to their respective team corners, and Tajiri is isolated. On commentary, they compliment the intelligence of the heel team, choosing to isolate the most inexperienced member of their opposition.

Despite showing signs of life, and landing the odd stinking kick, Tajiri does struggle. The heel team, directed by the veteran instincts of William Regal, are happy to bend the rules and cheat to further torture Tajiri. The heel quartet operate effectively as a team, and when Regal gets in, the Brit gets vicious. He pounds away with brutal knees and forearms, leaving visible bruising on the body and face of Tajiri.

Tajiri doesn’t give up though, showing tremendous resilience for somebody still so relatively fresh in their WCW career. We end up back where we started with CIMA in the ring, beating on Tajiri, until he sends Tajiri to the ropes… TAJIRI BOUNCES BACK WITH A SPINNING HEEL KICK!!!

Both men remain down after the shot, as their teams urge them to get to their corners immediately. The faces start a slow clap with the fans, doing all they can to get behind Tajiri, but he doesn’t move. Instead, CIMA is able to crawl to his corner and he tags Regal back into the match. Regal looks to slowly walk towards Tajiri… WHEN TAJIRI DESPERATELY LEAPS ACROSS THE RING…

TAGGING D’LO IN THE PROCESS!!!

Full of fire, D’Lo comes in and tees off with Regal with right hands, pinballing him around the ring. Brown seems content with beating on Regal, as the commentators put over their history, and the fact that D’Lo has been rallying for a rematch for Regal’s TV Title. With D’Lo in complete control, the rest of the heel team try and intervene, however D’Lo manages to take care of them as well.

It's more simple stuff, basic right hands and Clothesline, but it’s working. With the ring cleared, D’Lo goes back to working on Regal, whilst Kidman enters the ring. He notices Hayashi getting back to his feet on the floor; after being taken out by D’Lo… KIDMAN TAKES OUT HAYASHI WITH A BIG PLANCHA!!!

Inside the ring, Brown continues to have his way with the TV Champ, when CIMA runs in to intervene… MYSTERIO STOPS CIMA WITH A SEATED SENTON!!!

As Mysterio bounces back to his feet and adjusts his mask, he shares some words with D’Lo. Nodding his head in agreement, D’Lo shoves Regal towards Mysterio… REY LANDS A TILT A WHIRL DDT!!!

Getting caught watching the action, as Mysterio was midair, Brown was clobbered from behind by Storm. Once Mysterio gets to his feet… STORM DRILLS HIM WITH A SUPERKICK!!!

STORM PINS MYSTERIO…

D’LO IMMEDIATELY COMES BACK AND BREAKS UP THE COUNT!!!

Having the advantage on Storm now, he brings him to his feet and hammers away with right hands, backing him into the corner of the ring. He then kicks Storm in the stomach, before shoving Storm’s head between his legs… RUNNING POWERBOMB FROM D’LO!!!

CIMA BREAKS UP THE COUNT WITH A BASEMENT DROPKICK TO D’LO!!!

Tajiri begins to lower himself to make the cover… WHEN REGAL NAILS A KNEE TREMBLER TO THE HEAD!!!

Regal dusts his hands together, as if to say job done, and then turns, RIGHT INTO A SKY HIGH FROM D’LO!!!

Instead of going for the pin, Brown hurries to his feet and charges across the ring, knocking Hayashi off the apron. With Hayashi out of action and Regal down and out, there’s nobody left to interrupt D’Lo. He climbs up to the top rope and leaps off… D’LO LANDS THE LOW DOWN ON REGAL!!!

WINNERS: BILLY KIDMAN, D’LO BROWN, REY MYSTERIO AND YOSHIHIRO TAJIRI VIA PINFALL at 10:32.

Finally, the fans get to pop for a match result at match number three. The face team all celebrate together, getting a nice ovation from the fans, but our cameras stick to D’Lo Brown. He celebrates in the ring and then up the ramp, motioning that he wants the TV Title around his waist. Despite coming up short once before, after pinning the champion tonight, one can assume he just might get another chance…

BACKSTAGE – INTERVIEW SET

Suited and booted, looking as slick as ever, MEAN GENE OKERLUND is standing by.

Mean Gene Okerlund:
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time. He’s a man who’s not included on the match card tonight and isn’t supposed to be here. Be that as it may, he inexplicably made his presence felt in the WCW Tag Team Championship match earlier tonight, please welcome… KURT ANGLE!!!

KURT ANGLE comes into view, a smarmy smirk on his face, as Gene talks about what went down earlier tonight. The fans from inside the arena rain down some heat at the vision of Kurt.

Mean Gene Okerlund:
Now Mister Angle, my question is simple, why did you get involved earlier tonight, illegally interfere and help that dastardly Edge and Christian regain the WCW Tag Team Championships?

The Olympic Gold Medallist keeps the same smirk on his face, prepared to answer Okerlund’s question.

Kurt Angle:
Why? I’ll tell you why, Gene, because I’m smart. I agreed to help some old friends out in return for a favour.

Before Gene can follow up and question on the favour, Angle simply turns and leaves, not wanting to give anymore away…

Street Fight:
Ric Flair vs. Vader

Flair’s out to the ring first, again with less of his usual confidence and cockiness than usual, knowing the battle he has ahead. When Vader gets halfway down the ramp during his entrance, Flair jumps the gun and meets him on the ramp. The two trade blows, brawling on the ramp, with Flair alternating between chops and right hands, whilst Vader swats him away.

Flair adopts the stick and move approach, landing a few right hands and chops, before using footwork to frustrate Vader. Meanwhile ‘The Mastodon’ keeps swinging these killer blows, but Flair is able to avoid them. The more and more shots Flair lands, they start to take effect on Vader, as he begins stumbling backwards.

The brawl slowly moves down the ramp and to ringside, but they do not enter the ring. They continue to fight on the outside, and Flair’s approach continues to pay dividends. He lands a few hard right hands, which cause Vader to back away, and lean on the crowd barricade for support. Flair goes nuts with chops to the chest of Vader, before taking a few steps back. Flair builds a head of steam, charging forward… BUT VADER HIP TOSSES FLAIR OVER THE CROWD BARRICADE AND ONTO THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!!

There are audible groans from the fans, however they are drowned out by the yells in agony from Flair. The big, game changing move allows Vader some time to shake out the cobwebs, before he heads over the barricade and begins having his way with Flair. The fast moving from Flair is gone after this, and Vader is able to dominate. It’s brutal from Vader, as he tees off with stiff forearms to the side of the head, until he decides to toss Flair over the barricade and back to ringside.

In full control, Vader methodically stomps over to Flair, hoisting him to his feet… AND VADER IRISH WHIPS FLAIR… SENDING HIM CRASHING INTO THE RING STEPS!!!

The velocity of the force from Vader has the collision sounding like a car accident as Flair crumbles. The sadistic monster seems to be enjoying himself now, as he slowly picks up Flair and takes him away from the stairs… ONLY FOR VADER TO WHIP FLAIR INTO THE RING STEPS AGAIN

On commentary, they wonder if Flair is defenceless already after this barrage from the recent former World Heavyweight Champion. Almost as if watching a replay, again Vader drags Flair to his feet, pulls him away for the stairs… AND WHIPS HIM INTO THE RING STEPS A THIRD TIME!!!

Each collision as bad as the other, and the stairs don’t give. Flair looks in big trouble, clearly aching all over, and Vader isn’t done. He again slowly approaches Flair, bringing him up, only to land a few big punches which send Flair staggering away. Vader catches Flair quickly, tucking his head under Flair’s arm… VADER DRIVES FLAIR BACK FIRST INTO THE RING POST!!!

As Flair screams on impact, our commentary team mention the Hip Toss on the concrete, the steel steps and now this. They make reference to Flair’s previous broken back and how this is getting concerning very quickly. Vader is in his element though, as now he hoists the dead weight of Flair up and rolls him back into the ring.

Vader slowly climbs in after Flair, entering the ring, before leaping high in the air… BIG SPLASH!!!

NO!!! FLAIR MANAGES TO ROLL OUT OF THE WAY!!!

The missed blow shocks Vader and he’s left gasping for air, whilst a desperate Flair rolls underneath the bottom rope. Flair grimaces with each step, struggling, but he looks underneath the ring and pulls out a STEEL CHAIR. Sliding back into the ring, Flair is behind Vader, who has managed to work to his feet… FLAIR STABS THE CHAIR INTO THE BACK OF THE LEFT KNEE!!!

Now it’s Vader’s turn to let out an uncharacteristic groan, as he bends down to grab at his leg. He’s in pain, but he grits his teeth and remains standing. After a split second, he just looks angry as he turns to face Flair… FLAIR CREAMS HIM WITH A CHAIR SHOT TO THE SKULL!!!

Vader falls back like he’s been shot, and Flair drops the chair. FLAIR HOOKS VADER’S LEG…

VADER KICKS OUT!!!

Despite the kick out, Vader doesn’t look in a rush to get up, so Flair stomps on him a few times to ensure he stays down. Knowing he’s got the big man in trouble, Flair heads back outside the ring, looking for some more weapons. First, he pulls a TABLE from underneath the ring, and slides it in. ‘The Nature Boy’ isn’t done in his search though, as he rummages around, before pulling out a STEEL CHAIN!!!

The fans begin to buzz in anticipation, as Flair takes the thick chain, and he wraps it around his fist. The veteran now slides back into the ring, slyly stalking Vader who is now battling back up. As Vader turns to face Flair… FLAIR TEES OFF WITH A RIGHT HAND FROM HIS CHAIN COVERED FIST!!!

Vader staggers but somehow maintains his footing… SO FLAIR LANDS ANOTHER PUNCH WITH THE CHAIN!!!

This time Vader stumbles backwards, but he collapses into the ropes. The ropes are probably the only thing keeping Vader up, but then he unintentionally bounces off them and moves forward… AND FLAIR LANDS A THIRD PUNCH WITH THE CHAIN!!!

THIS TIME VADER DROPS TO THE CANVAS!!!

Flair lets out a “WOOOOOOOOO”, feeling good about himself suddenly, as he now decides to unwrap his fist from the chain. Flair keeps the chain in his possession though and now begins wrapping the chain around the left knee of Vader. ‘The Mastodon’ tries to shove Flair away but is unable to do so… FLAIR BEGINS STOMPING LIKE A MANIAC OVER THE CHAIN WRAPPED KNEE!!!

Stomp after stomp after stomp, Flair is like a mad man, and Vader can do nothing but take the pain. After something like fifteen stomps, Flair stops and picks the leg of Vader up… FIGURE FOUR LEG LOCK!!!

NO!!! BEFORE FLAIR CAN FALL BACK… VADER GRABS FLAIR BY THE THROAT!!!

The strength shown by Vader is incredible, as he squeezes really tight. Flair’s tongue comes out of his mouth, and his eyes bulge, as he’s forced to relinquish Vader’s legs, to attempt to escape. He can’t escape Vader’s grip though, and Vader maintains the death grip on Flair’s throat, and he uses it to fight all the way back to his feet.

Once his up, with absolute disdain, Vader simply throws Flair away, causing him to tumble to the canvas. Still in pain, Vader tries to shake out his left leg, before focusing on unwrapping the chain from around it. Once free from the chain, Vader holds it in his hand, ready to swing it at Flair… BUT FLAIR THROWS THE TABLE RIGHT INTO THE FACE OF VADER!!!

The blow causes Vader to drop the chain, and somehow the table bounces off of Vader, and lands in a slanted position against the corner of the ring. As Vader staggers backwards into the corner, Flair picks up the steel chair from earlier. Flair holds the chair and begins charging towards Vader… VADER PUNCHES THE CHAIR BACK INTO FLAIR’S FACE!!!

Flair immediately drops the chair in shock but stumbles around, somehow remaining on his feet. Vader yanks Flair towards him with a Waist Lock… GERMAN MURDERPLEX THROUGH THE FUCKING TABLE IN THE CORNER!!!

Holy shit! The fans can’t help but cheer the spot, as Vader may have just ended the career of Ric Flair right there. Taking a moment to survey the carnage, Vader looks content, as he grabs Flair by the hand and drags him to the centre of the ring. VADER DROPS DOWN TO MAKE THE COVER…

FLAIR JUST ROLLS A SHOULDER UP AT THE LAST MOMENT!!!

A tremendous pop comes from the fans who support Flair, whilst Vader looks completely shocked by the resilience shown. It seems like it takes him a moment to recompose himself, before he gets up and sets his sights on the steel chain. Vader picks it up and wraps it around his upper arm area.

With his arm loaded, Vader waits for the struggling Flair to slowly pull himself up… CHAIN ASSISTED LARIAT SENDS FLAIR BACK DOWN!!!

It’s clear that took a toll on Vader to, as he grabs at his arm for a moment. After shaking it out, Vader unwraps the chain and decides to throw it outside of the ring now. Vader now grabs the steel chair and places it in the centre of the ring, before lifting the motionless Flair back up. Vader positions Flair’s head between his legs, before lifting him high in the air… POWERBOMB ON THE STEEL CHAIR!!!

WINNER: VADER VIA PINFALL at 11:16.

It’s domination in the end from Vader, and the fans are somewhat in shock. There’s more concern around the condition of the unmoving Flair, than hatred for Vader for pulling out the victory. ‘The Mastodon’ hams it up though, celebrating, only pausing occasionally to grab at his hampered left knee.

Tony Schiavone:
The bigger story here is the condition that Ric Flair is in, as we see medics making their way to the ring to check on him. At this time though, just a reminder, as per the stipulation of this match, Ric Flair will never be able to challenge Raven for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Dusty Rhodes:
Thinkin’ outside the box a little here, Tony, but would Flair’s only shot at getting a WCW Title match with Raven be World War Three next month?

Tony Schiavone:
That’s a great question, Dusty, but let’s talk more about that tomorrow night on Nitro. I just hope and pray that Ric Flair is okay.

Flair still hasn’t really moved since the end of the match, and the medics have made the call for a stretcher…

VIDEO PACKAGE

The video package starts with a clip from the August 7th episode of Nitro. GOLDBERG is facing off against PERRY SATURN, when THE FLOCK attacks, ending with SCOTT STEINER putting Goldberg threw a chair with the Steiner Screwdriver, consequently putting Goldberg out of action.

In the weeks that follow, Steiner and CURT HENNIG brag about what they’ve done to Goldberg. Goldberg returns in September at Fall Brawl and defeats Kurt Angle, before letting it be known that Steiner is next.

Since Fall Brawl, Steiner was refusing a match with Goldberg because he isn’t in his league. Despite his best efforts, Goldberg has not been able to get his hands on Steiner as of yet, with Steiner running away at any cost.

It’s announced that they will meet in a tag match, however Goldberg doesn’t have a partner, until on this week’s Nitro he falls victim to an outnumbered assault. That’s until SCOTT NORTON makes the save and announces himself as Goldberg’s partner, having his own Flock issues to deal with.

PARKING LOT

In the parking lot, an ambulance can be seen with its backdoors open, and we see RIC FLAIR, laying on a stretcher, being pushed towards the ambulance. As the medics work on getting the stretcher in the ambulance, the remainder of THE FOUR HORSEMEN watch on. DEAN MALENKO and JAMIE NOBLE look to hop in the ambulance with Flair, however CHRIS BENOIT freezes, thinking things over.

Chris Benoit:
Look, guys, I think you should come back down here. We can check on Ric later. We can’t control what has already happened tonight, but you shouldn’t go with Flair, and you should stay here. We can control what happens next, so it would be good to have you both here just in case.

Malenko hops out of the ambulance, supporting his best friends decision, however Noble hesitates, seemingly conflicted.

Jamie Noble:
What about Ric? Why?

Benoit thinks over his response for a split second.

Chris Benoit:
Ric’s not going to be going anywhere anytime soon, so we can see him afterwards. I’m taking charge of the situation since Ric isn’t in a position to do so. I love Ric, and after my match Ric will be all I care about, but I’m not going to fall to a Flock numbers game again.

After a few more contemplative moments, Noble nods his head and hops out of the ambulance. They shut the doors, and Flair is driven out of the lot, whilst the rest of The Horsemen remain behind, plotting their next piece of business for the night…

Tag Team Match:
Curt Hennig and Scott Steiner w/Buff Bagwell vs. Goldberg and Scott Norton

The Berg and Norton are quite the powerhouse team, and they are able to dominate with their strength in the early stages. For all of his talk beforehand, ‘Big Poppa’ Pump’ isn’t all that enthusiastic on getting in the ring, meaning Hennig is forced to deal with the two men stronger than him. Hennig gets thrown around quite a bit, bumping like a mad man. Goldberg and Norton aren’t exactly a cohesive unit, but they have something of an uneasy bond, and at times it seems they’re almost competing to see who can do more damage to the former Mr. Perfect.

The pure domination and one sided nature of the contest continues, until Goldberg decides to head to the corner of the ring. He stalks Hennig, and as Hennig gets up… SPEAR!!!

NO!!! BAGWELL GRABS GOLDBERG’S FOOT SO HE CAN’T TAKE OFF!!!

Goldberg attempts to pull his leg from Bagwell’s grip, but Buff hangs on. As Goldberg continues to struggle, STEINER RUNS THROUGH GOLDBERG WITH A LARIAT FROM THE APRON!!!

This is the turning point of the match as from here, The Flock isolate Goldberg, keeping him down. They can’t keep his shoulders on the mat for a three count though, whilst commentary explain that this is why Goldberg is nearly undefeated. He’s so resilient. Anyway, Steiner and Hennig operate as quite the team here, utilising plenty of quick tags and double team moves. Above all else, they use their tag experience and always ensure that one of them is between Goldberg and the frustrated Norton in the corner.

Being his ever explosive self, Goldberg does show signs of life and tries to fight back on a number of occasions. When Steiner and Hennig aren’t able to stop his momentum legally, Bagwell gets involved, stopping it illegally. Somehow, the referee never notices Bagwell interfering, therefore he remains at ringside to continue to do so.

Eventually we get to a point where Steiner and Hennig decide it’s time for another double team move on Goldberg. They tee off with right hands, before sending Goldberg off the ropes… DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE FROM GOLDBERG!!!

Having taken out both opponents, Goldberg gets some huge cheers from the fans. Absolutely exhausted, he slowly begins making his way towards his corner, and Goldberg manages to tag in Norton. Hot tag time as Norton comes in and runs amuck, getting the better of both of his two former friends.

Norton chops both Hennig and Steiner’s chest until they’re red raw and throws them around the ring with ease. Finally, Hennig and Steiner stop getting up and asking for more, so Norton opts to focus in on Hennig. He grabs Hennig by the hair and drags him to the corner of the ring, before lifting him onto one of his shoulders… RUNNING POWERSLAM!!!

Norton doesn’t think about a cover, instead getting back to his feet. Eager, NORTON TURNS INTO AN EXPLODER SUPLEX FROM STEINER!!!

The fans are in awe, whilst our commentary team put over the fact that Steiner is powerful, but we may have forgotten due to his cowardly tactics lately. With Norton being thrown across the ring, Steiner taps his bicep, signalling he’s going for a Lariat. ‘The Big Bad Booty Daddy’ stalks Norton, and when Norton gets up… LARIAT!!!

NO!!!

STEINER IS INTERCEPTED BY A SPEAR FROM GOLDBERG!!!

More of an epic ovation for the Spear, as Goldberg leans over the ropes, scowling and sticking out his tongue, ready to finish things. Having gotten back to his feet, Norton watches The Berg’s theatrics… UNTIL HENNIG PUSHES NORTON FROM BEHIND… CAUSING NORTON TO CRASH INTO GOLDBERG!!!

Goldberg falls to the canvas, whilst Norton maintains his footing… BUT STAGGERS INTO A DOUBLE A SPINEBUSTER FROM HENNIG!!!

HENNIG HOOKS THE LEG…

NORTON KICKS OUT WITH AUTHORITY AT A ONE COUNT!!!

Having rolled out to the floor after their unintended collision, Goldberg shakes out the cobwebs. He notices his partner is in trouble, and looks to roll back inside the ring, BUT BAGWELL WRAPS HIS ARMS AROUND HIS WAIST AND TRIES TO KEEP GOLDBERG FROM GETTING BACK IN THE RING!!!

After battling but being in an awkward position, Goldberg decides to just slide off the apron and go face to face with Bagwell. Buff’s eyes go wide in shock, before he loads up for a punch… NO!!! GOLDBERG GRABS BUFF BY THE THROAT… AND THEN GETS HIM HIGH IN THE AIR…

GORILLA PRESS POWERSLAM ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!!

Karma comes back to hit Bagwell big time, as he’s in trouble after that. Meanwhile, inside the ring, Hennig is standing over Norton, desperately throwing right hands as Norton continues to work to his feet. It’s clear the right hands aren’t having much impact, so Hennig bounces off the ropes to build some momentum… BUT NORTON TAKES HIS HEAD OFF WITH A LARIAT!!!

NORTON MAKES THE COVER!!!

WINNERS: GOLDBERG AND SCOTT NORTON VIA PINFALL at 10:53

Outside of a shared nod between the two, Goldberg and Norton stick to their own sides of the ring, celebrating separately. The fans cheer for them as Goldberg quickly puts his hand down and hunts for the man he didn’t get to take down tonight in Steiner. ‘Big Poppa Pump’ is a step ahead though and has already rolled out of the ring and climbed over the crowd barricade, yet again making the great escape.

Steiner gets insulted by the fans for his cowardly behaviour, and Goldberg throws threats at him. Meanwhile, Norton just kind of shrugs, not caring to much about it all and decides to leave the ring…

BACKSTAGE – RANDOM HALLWAY

Unlike the first time we saw him tonight, now CHRIS BENOIT is in his wrestling gear. He looks ready to go, sweaty, having potentially just finished his pre match warm up. Taking a few deep breaths, Benoit intensely stares directly into the camera.

Chris Benoit:
I don’t like to talk, I’m a man of action, but I know deep within myself that I should still be the WCW Champion. Some people rely on more than just their wrestling ability to succeed, and well I don’t agree with it, I’m starting to figure out Raven. He’s the champion, but not for long, and if necessary, with the Horsemen behind me, I’ll fight fire with fire.

Short and sharp for Benoit, who is seemingly more than ready for his upcoming match and whatever comes after that as well…

BACKSTAGE – LOCKER ROOM

Sitting in his locker room, deeply focused is the man who gets a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship tonight. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE sits on a chair, taping up his wrists ahead of tonight’s main event. Subconsciously, he runs a hand through his hair, which is also up for grabs tonight, before he goes back to sorting out his tape. It’s Raven vs. DDP, title vs. hair tonight…

If Benoit Wins, He Gets A WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Chris Benoit vs. Hollywood Hogan w/Perry Saturn

Of course Hogan has some support with him in the name of Saturn, but Benoit doesn’t seem overly concerned. In the ring first, Benoit paces, begging for Hogan to join him in the ring, but Hollywood decides to take his time. Performing one of his specialties, Hogan strides around the ring, stalling, refusing to get inside. The referee begs Benoit to stay in the ring, but Hogan refuses to get in, instead choosing to flex at some of the fans hurling insults at him.

The former ‘Hulkster’ continues to ham it up on the outside, calling himself the kingpin of professional wrestling. After a few more moments, Benoit decides he’s had enough, and he sharply steps around the referee, and steps outside of the ring. Hogan doesn’t realise, to busy focusing on insulting the crowd, and he doesn’t have time heed the warnings of Saturn.

Benoit reaches Hogan and roughly spins him around and begins chopping the hell out of Hogan’s chest. Slap after slap is heard around the arena, with Hogan shrieking in pain, until Saturn looks to intervene. Perry grabs Benoit’s arm and looks to pull him away from Hogan, but Benoit unloads with such a hard chop to Saturn’s chest that Saturn falls to the floor.

Benoit remains focused, immediately getting back on Hogan, who is rubbing his chest and stumbling away. Benoit easily catches up and grabs him… BENOIT THROWS HOGAN FACE FIRST INTO THE RING POST!!!

The collision causes Hogan to fall to the floor, but again, Benoit refuses to let him breathe. The tenacious former champ drags Hogan back up to his feet and FINALLY decides to send the action to the ring. After rolling Hogan in, Benoit looks to slide in after him… BUT SATURN GRABS A HOLD OF BENOIT’S LEG TO KEEP HIS UPPER BODY IN THE RING BUT LOWER BODY OUT!!!

‘The Rabid Wolverine’ struggles, attempting to break free of Saturn’s grip, WHICH ALLOWS HOGAN TO DROP AN ELBOW ACROSS THE BACK OF THE NECK OF BENOIT!!!

From here, Hogan is able to force his type of match on Benoit. It’s slow moving, plodding, it’s all basic offense, but it’s effective. Hogan is able to beat Benoit down, and he isn’t afraid to cheat either. Whether it’s choke holds, holding the ropes, raking the eyes or scratching the back, Hogan continues to torture Benoit, gaining further confidence by the moment.

After dragging Benoit back to his feet at one point, Hogan lands a few hard right hands, when Benoit begins to fight back. The Canadian begins wilding out with chops to Hogan’s chest again, getting it redder by the second. Chop after chop backs Hogan towards the ropes, when Hogan sneaks a thumb to the eye. With Benoit momentarily blinded, Hogan is able to grab him and throw him through the middle rope and to the outside.

Hogan fakes going outside after Benoit but doesn’t really seem overly eager to do so. The referee reacts to the movement though, and Hogan grabs the ref by the shirt, dragging him away to the conversation. With the referee’s back to Benoit, Saturn picks him up… EXPLODER SUPLEX ON THE FLOOR!!!

Benoit lands with a nasty thud, favouring his back, but Saturn doesn’t let him rest. Saturn rolls Benoit back to the centre of the ring, and Hogan shrugs off the referee, AND HOGAN HOOKS THE LEG…

BENOIT KICKS OUT!!!

After kicking out, Benoit rolls over and grabs a this back, and Hogan identifies this right away. He quickly brings Benoit back to his feet and lifts him in the air… BACKBREAKER!!!

As Benoit struggles on the canvas, Hogan backs to the corner of the ring and climbs to the middle rope. The fans buzz in anticipation, everybody in shock at Hogan looking for a high risk move. On second thought, Hogan takes a deep breath and climbs down one run, now standing on the bottom rope. Crossing his heart as if looking for divine intervention with the risk he’s about to take… HOGAN LEAPS OFF THE BOTTOM ROPE AND CONNECTS WITH A FLYING ELBOW!!!

In typical Hogan fashion, he cups his ear, allowing the fans to rain down heat. Instead of going for the cover, Hogan grabs Benoit by the legs and drags him towards the centre of the ring. With a snarl, Hogan gives the fans the thumbs down signal, BEFORE LOCKING IN THE SHARPSHOOTER!!!

It’s not the most technically sound Sharpshooter in the world, but it’s a Sharpshooter, nonetheless. The fans boo loudly, knowing Hogan’s history with Bret Hart, a man Benoit has a lot of respect for. Hogan attempts to sit back on the hold, yelling for Benoit to tap, but he just can’t quite apply it right. Benoit is still in pain, and struggles, but he’s able to army crawl, dragging he and Hogan across the ring until he makes the ropes.

The referee begins the count, and ever the veteran, Hogan refuses to break the hold until four and a half. Not wanting to get disqualified, Hogan regretfully releases the submission, and the referee is quick to get in his face. This allows Benoit to use the ropes to pull himself up, until Hogan charges at him… BENOIT DROPS DOWN AND LOWBRIDGES HOGAN OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

Hogan lands awkwardly but slaps his hands on the floor in frustration, potentially embarrassed by landing on his ass. Saturn rushes over to help Hogan to his feet, pulling him up… BENOIT TAKES OUT BOTH MEN WITH A TOPE SUICIDA!!!

Epic pop from the fans as Benoit takes out two members of The Flock! Obviously, he goes back to focusing on Hogan, dragging him up and rolling him back into the ring. Much like earlier tonight, Benoit looks to follow in… BUT SATURN GRABS THE LEGS OF BENOIT TO PREVENT HIM FROM DOING SO!!!

Benoit struggles to break Saturn’s grip, unable to do so… UNTIL SATURN IS DROPPED WITH A RIGHT HAND!!!

FROM DEAN MALENKO!!!

One of other Horsemen are here, and Malenko managed to drop Saturn with one shot. Saturn crawls away from Malenko, whilst inside the ring, HOGAN LOOKS TO DROP AN ELBOW ON BENOIT’S NECK AGAIN!!!

NO!!! NOT BEING HELD IN PLACE MEANS BENOIT CAN ROLL OUT OF THE WAY!!!

Both men get up at the same time, albeit Hogan is sad and sorry, holding his elbow and facing the other way. Benoit grabs Hogan… GERMAN SUPLEX!!!

Despite the kick out, Hogan is clearly in trouble, not overly familiar with being thrown around that way. ‘The Rabid Wolverine’ snarls as he looks down at Hogan, stomping on him a few times to keep him down. Benoit then steps onto the apron and ascends up to the top rope…DIVING HEADBUTT!!!

NO!!! SATURN GETS ONTO THE APRON AND TAKES BENOIT’S LEGS OUT… CROTCHING HIM ON THE TOP ROPE!!!

Surprisingly, Saturn has a STEEL CHAIR in his hand, and he decides to throw that into the ring as well. Seeing red, with Saturn having the balls to get involved even with him there… MALENKO YANKS SATURN OFF THE APRON!!!

This time Saturn expects it and this time things EXPLODE between these two on the floor, as they brawl around ringside. Inside the ring, with Benoit in an uncomfortable position, Hogan recovers, and lands a few right hands. He then climbs up the top rope after Benoit… AND HOOKS BENOIT UP FOR A SUPERPLEX!!!

NO!!! BENOIT SHRUGS HOGAN OFF AND SHOVES HIM OFF THE TOP ROPE!!!

Hogan lands right on his back, in perfect position… DIVING HEADBUTT!!!

NO!!! HOGAN HELD THE STEEL CHAIR ABOVE HIM… CAUSING BENOIT TO CRASH FACE FIRST INTO THE CHAIR!!!

The heat from the fans is gigantic, however, to make things worse, there’s no disqualification. The match official is to busy yelling at Malenko and Saturn to stop with the chaos on the outside. Hogan knew this, and now he quickly slides the chair outside of the ring, before crawling towards Benoit… HOGAN PUTS AN ARM OVER BENOIT…

NO!!! BENOIT ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY!!!

Hogan’s eyes and mouth go wide, a blend of shock and pain. Hogan stays down, selling the bad landing, whilst Benoit remains down as well, utterly exhausted. Outside of the ring, Saturn extracts himself from Malenko for a moment, making him able to pick up the steel chair… BUT MALENKO MEETS HIM BY DROPKICKING THE STEEL CHAIR BACK INTO SATURN’S FACE!!!

Saturn is down and out this time. Inside of the ring, Benoit is back up now, as is Hogan, and Benoit lands a few clubbing blows to Hogan’s back. Benoit gets a Waist Lock on Hogan… RELEASE GERMAN SUPLEX!!!

Getting right back to his feet, sensing the finish, Benoit heads to the apron and then ascends up to the top rope. Benoit leaps off… DIVING HEADBUTT!!!

Malenko dares Bagwell to come down, and Buff plans to… WHEN BAGWELL GETS PUSHED FROM BEHIND… STRAIGHT INTO THE RING POST!!!

Bagwell is down and out now as well, as The Horsemen own ringside. Not to be distracted, inside the ring, Benoit stalks Hogan for a moment, and then drops down… BENOIT LOCKS IN THE CROSSFACE!!!

Hogan screams, panic in his eyes, and Benoit pulls back… AND HOGAN QUICKLY TAPS OUT!!!

WINNER: CHRIS BENOIT VIA SUBMISSION at 16:04

The first expression on Benoit’s face is relief as he relinquishes the hold and realises he once again has a chance at the World Title. The ovation is MASSIVE for Benoit, and he’s quickly joined in the ring by Malenko and Noble to celebrate. As The Flock waddle to the back and lick their wounds, especially Hogan, the celebration continues as Benoit motions that the title will be around his waist soon enough…

PARKING LOT

Bag over his shoulder, gym singlet on, SCOTT NORTON looks to be making his way towards his car, when MEAN GENE OKERLUND comes from behind and manages to catch him.

Mean Gene Okerlund:
Scott, Scott, please just one question… I have to ask, why are you leaving? There are still two matches to go, it’s before the end of the show.

Norton shrugs as if to say it’s no big deal.

Scott Norton:
It’s simple. I’ve got my mind on the two things I want. I want Vader and I want The Flock. I got my hands on The Flock tonight, Vader is nowhere to be seen, there’s nothing else left for me tonight. I don’t care about anything else.

Okerlund is shocked by the nonchalant attitude of sorts, but Norton clearly doesn’t want to be distracted from his mission. Having answered the question, he continues heading to his car, and we need to head back to ringside…

WCW United States Championship Match:
Chris Jericho (c) w/Eddie Guerrero
defends against Val Venis

Both men are a little cagey to start this one, taking their time. Eventually they lock up and they quickly fall into some mat wrestling, both wanting to prove they are better technically than the other. Val gets the better of most of these exchanges, as his strength advantage allows him to be more proactive. Jericho uses his quickness to escape and get back upright, but it seems it’s constantly Val bringing Jericho down to the mat with his power and size advantage.

A move as simple as a Side Headlock does a lot of good for Val in these early exchanges. He utilizes it to turn into a Headlock Takedown to bring Jericho crashing down yet again, but this time Jericho refuses to stay grounded. Tired of failing at the chain wrestling, Jericho decided to dig his fingers into Venis’ eyes, causing him to break his hold.

Both men scramble to their feet, albeit Val is rubbing his eyes, clearly compromised. It allows Jericho to continue to scrap the wrestling completely, as instead he’s just aggressive with right hands, backing Val into the corner. Jericho whips Venis into the opposite corner, and charges in after him, but he runs right into a back elbow to the jaw.

Now it’s Jericho’s turn to stagger away, grabbing at his jaw, and Val runs through him with a Clothesline. The US Champ bounces back to his feet, only to get dropped with a second Clothesline and again followed by a third! After the third Clothesline, Jericho stays down only for Val to bring him back up. The challenger lands a few right hands, before sending Jericho the ropes… BUT JERICHO GRABS ONTO THE ROPES AND PULLS HIMSELF TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

Boos greet Jericho as he looks to take a breather, but Venis is having none of it. The porn star hops out of the ring and begins chasing Jericho around ringside. Just as Venis starts gaining on Jericho, ‘Y2J’ decides to slide back into the ring. Not wanting to get stomped, Val slowly gets back onto the apron, when strangely Jericho grabs the referee, distracting him in the process. Val looks to step through the ropes… BUT EDDIE GUERRERO SMASHES HIS CRUTCH ACROSS VAL’S BACK!!!

The scream that leaves Val’s body as he drops to the floor in pain is crazy. He grabs at his back and mid-section, as Eddie stands over him with a mischievous smirk on his face. The fans aren’t happy, and the commotion even causes the referee to turn, and the ref sees that Guerrero is standing over Venis. The ref immediately looks suspicious, with the fans egging him on. Eddie panics, trying to proclaim his innocence, but the referee shakes his head… EDDIE GUERRERO GETS EJECTED FROM RINGSIDE!!!

Eddie shakes his head in denial, but the referee insists, and the fans start to mark out. Guerrero smashes his crutch against the steel steps in frustration, showing off some of that fiery Latino temper. “THAT’S BULLCRAP, ESE”, comes from Eddie, but he does slowly limp up the ramp.

As Eddie made his scene, Jericho decided to head outside the ring, and after stomping all over Val, he rolls him back into the ring. Once Val’s in, he grabs at his back again, and from the outside, Jericho sees it and arrogantly smirks. The US Champ slowly gets back into the ring himself, and now he really has his way with his porn star opponent.

Jericho works all over the back and mid-section with very focused offense, and Val is in a lot of trouble. Of course, Jericho isn’t to concerned about getting disqualified because he’d retain his title, so he’s happy to maintain choke holds, and submissions where Val makes the ropes until a count of five. In a show of defiance, the referee refuses to call the DQ, perhaps recognising Jericho attempting to take the easy way out.

Jericho continues to dominate and whilst he doesn’t put Val away, his cockiness grows and grows. It gets to a point where Val is working to his feet, and Jericho lands a left handed jab. Two more jabs follow, before Jericho starts shuffling his feet, imitating Muhammad Ali, he then bounces off the ropes… BUT RUNS STRAIGHT INTO A CLOTHESLINE!!!

Both men remain down, feeling the physical nature of the contest, as the referee begins his count. With the fans counting along with the ref, both men get up at the count of seven. Looking to maintain the advantage, Jericho throws the first shot, but Val blocks it and lands a right hand of his own. Jericho tries two more times and is blocked, and now Venis is able to hit a series of shots in a row.

A killer Uppercut sends Jericho crashing to the canvas; however he bounces straight back up. Val begins to pinfall Jericho around the ring now, before sending him to the ropes, and when Jericho returns… POWERSLAM!!!

VAL HOOKS THE LEG…

NO!!!

JERICHO KICKS OUT!!!

Focused as ever, Val struggles back to his feet, but he realises that Jericho is still down. Val heads to the apron and begins climbing to the top, however he stops halfway up, feeling for his injured back once again. After taking a deep breath and sucking it up, Val continues his ascension to the top. Once there, he steadies himself… WHEN JERICHO HITS HIM WITH A DROPKICK OUT OF NOWHERE…

CROTCHING VAL ON THE TOP ROPE!!!

Insert reference about Val not being able to fall back on his previous career as he feels for his nuts. Jericho smirks at the reaction from his opponent, and climbs up, meeting Venis on the top rope. Jericho tees off on Val, softening him up, before grabbing his arms… BUTTERFLY SUPERPLEX!!!

NO!!! VAL MANAGES TO PULL HIS ARMS FREE!!!

They both remain on the top rope but Val beats Jericho to the punch, landing a few right hands. Jericho almost loses his balance but just holds onto the ropes… UNTIL VAL SHOVES HIM HARD IN THE CHEST… JERICHO CRASHES AND BURNS TO THE CANVAS!!!

Surprisingly, Jericho begins stirring right away, and by the time Venis repositions himself, this time on the middle rope, Jericho is up. VENIS LEAPS OFF WITH A FLYING DROPKICK!!!

NO!!! JERICHO CATCHES HIM BY THE LEGS IN MID AIR!!!

AND APPLIES THE WALLS OF JERICHO!!!

Jericho bends back as far as he can, applying all the pressure in the world, but Val is close to the ropes and manages to reach them. At the referee’s count of four, the US Champ breaks the hold, but he is irate. Getting back to his feet and shoving the referee to release some tension, Jericho then heads to the corner of the ring.

As the referee checks on Val, who continues to favour his back, Jericho unties and removes the turnbuckle pad from the middle turnbuckle. With fury in his eyes, Jericho grabs Val by the head and back of neck… AND LOOKS TO RAM HIM INTO THE EXPOSED TURNBUCKLE!!!

NO!!! VAL DROPS DOWN IN FRONT OF JERICHO…

DROP TOE HOLD SENDS JERICHO FACE FIRST INTO THE EXPOSED TURNBUCKLE!!!

Big cheers from the fans as Val backs to the centre of the ring, and Jericho stumbles backwards, clutching at his face… BLUE THUNDER DRIVER FROM VAL!!!

VENIS HOOKS THE LEG…

JERICHO GRABS THE BOTTOM ROPE TO SAVE HIS US TITLE!!!

Closing his eyes in despair, Val grabs at his back again, still struggling with it. He pushes through the pain barrier though, bringing Jericho to his feet and landing some hard right hands. Val sends Jericho to the ropes, and upon Jericho’s return… DOUBLE V SPINEBUSTER!!!

NO!!! JERICHO RAKES THE EYES IN MID AIR TO ESCAPE SAFELY!!!

Landing on his feet and noticing Venis’ sight is temporarily hampered, Jericho bounces off the ropes… ONE HANDED BULLDOG!!!

Jericho is right back up, and he springboards off the middle rope… LIONSAULT!!!

NO!!! JERICHO CRASHES AND BURNS AS VAL ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY!!!

Jericho grabs at his stomach, trying to regain air, whilst Val slowly battles back to his feet. Both get up at roughly the same time, but Val meets the champ with a kick to the gut… BIG DDT!!!

VAL HOOKS THE LEG AGAIN…

NO!!!

JERICHO GETS A SHOULDER UP!!!

For the first time tonight, there’s some frustration in Venis’ eyes as well. He shakes it off quickly though, pulling Jericho up by the hair, and roughing him up with some punches. Val drags Jericho to the corner and then hoists him up into a seated position on the top rope. After some more punches, Val climbs up after Jericho, but ‘Y2J’ unleashes with repeated shots to the gut of Venis… BEFORE SHOVING VAL OFF THE TOP ROPE!!!

Venis lands hard on his injured back, but fights through the pain, and pushes himself right back to his feet… MISSILE DROPKICK FROM JERICHO!!!

NOW JERICHO HOOKS THE LEG…

NO!!!

VENIS GETS A SHOULDER UP THIS TIME!!!

The US Champ scrambles to his feet, and notices that despite the pinfall escape, Venis isn’t showing much life. Jericho runs and springboards off the ropes again… LIONSAULT!!!

THIS TIME IT CONNECTS… WITH THE RAISED KNEES OF VAL!!!

Val is in no condition to capitalise, and now Jericho is in a world of pain as well, rolling around on the mat. Both men remain down when suddenly there’s a commotion with the fans giving major heat, because the new WCW Tag Team Champions EDGE AND CHRISTIAN are sprinting down the ramp.

CHRISTIAN LEAPS ONTO THE APRON… IMMEDIATELY DRAWING THE ATTENTION OF THE REFEREE!!!

With the referee distracted, there’s a clear path for Edge to slide into the ring. Edge stalks both Val and Jericho, who both get to their feet at the same time. Edge charges across the ring… SPEAR!!!

TAKES OUT VAL VENIS!!!

Right into the injured mid-section and Venis is down, as Edge immediately rolls out of the ring. Christian jumps off the apron, and he and Edge watch on, whilst the ref turns back to the action. Jericho gets the same arrogant smirks he’s gotten a few times tonight, before trying one more time to sprint and springboard off the middle rope… LIONSAULT!!!

THIS TIME IT LANDS PERFECTLY!!!

JERICHO STAYS ON TOP FOR THE PIN…

THREE!!!

WINNER: CHRIS JERICHO VIA PINFALL at 20:49. CHRIS JERICHO RETAINS THE WCW UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP.

The crowd are disgusted as a perfectly good match, arguably the match of the night so far, is ruined by interference. Realising he’s gotten away with one here, Jericho is quick to grasp his US Title and head up the ramp to safer ground.

Once at the top of the ramp, Jericho stops to raise his US Title high in the air, until KURT ANGLE STEPS THROUGH THE CURTAIN!!!

Angle pauses and he and Jericho stare each other down, far from fans of each other. Kurt has other things on his mind right now, as he walks down the ramp and joins his buddies Edge and Christian, before the dastardly trio all enter the ring.

They watch Val Venis, who valiantly staggers to his feet… ANGLE SLAM!!!

After Angle drills Val, Edge and Christian actually leave the ring, grabbing some STEEL CHAIRS, before heading back inside.

Not done with the attack, Angle begins to drag Val back to his feet, when BOOKER T SLIDES INTO THE RING!!!

The fans go apeshit with delight as Booker swings wildly on all three men, making the save. Booker continues to hammer away, until the numbers get the better of him. Christian is able to grab him from behind… UNPRETTIER!!!

An annoyed Angle stomps on Booker to further soften him up, before he turns his attention back to Venis. Angle brings Val to his feet and holds him up in a Waist Lock… CONCHARTIO TO VENIS FROM EDGE AND CHRISTIAN!!!

Groans come from the audience due to the sickening sight, as Venis collapses to the mat. They now turn their attention towards Booker T, as Kurt brings Booker up… CONCHAIRTO TO BOOKER AS WELL!!!

The heat is vicious from the fans, as Booker falls next to the unconscious body of Venis. Both men are down, meanwhile Angle, Edge and Christian are all laughing away, raising their hands in the air to celebrate the damage they’ve caused, and the success they’ve had tonight…

BACKSTAGE – RANDOM HALLWAY

Geared up now and ready to go, DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE walks down the hallway in the back, most likely on his way to make his entrance. It’s DDP challenging Raven for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and it’s next…

***

VIDEO PACKAGE

A video package plays, focusing on the recent history between RAVEN and DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE. They’ve met multiple times on pay per view throughout this year, mostly in multi man matches, and DDP was actually able to defeat Raven at WCW Uncensored in a Street Fight.

Raven managed to get his win back two months later, so this one will be the decider in the series. The video package then focuses on the hair vs title stipulation, as well as the fact that this is Page’s last shot at the WCW World Title as long as Raven is champion…

***

RINGSIDE

***COME AS YOU ARE (INSTRUMENTAL)***

The loudest heat of the night is saved for the master manipulator himself, the super villain, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion RAVEN. Surprisingly he steps through the curtain first, as the champion, however only a step or two behind are the remainder of THE FLOCK.

The depressed looking Raven and his buddies only get halfway down the ramp, when his music is cut off by…

***CHASE***

The Flock are all mad at being interrupted as WCW President JIM CORNETTE steps to the top of the ramp. He sees the looks he’s getting from Raven and co and simply shakes his head in disbelief.

Jim Cornette:
No, no, no, sorry, this is not going to happen tonight. We are not going to have an interference riddled main event. I order all of The Flock to the back right now. And this next one isn’t just for The Flock, but if anyone…

Cornette looks up at the rafters, sending a message. This action freaks Raven out, as his eyes dart to the rafters also. Nobody can be seen though.

Jim Cornette:
If anyone gets involved in any way in this match… There will be severe consequences. You will be suspended for a year and the title would be vacated.

After looking for Raven for support, the champ has no choice but to tell his friends to head backstage. The Flock all walk to the back, passing Cornette in the process, as the fans sing the ‘goodbye’ song to them.

After they have disappeared completely, Cornette brings the mic back to his mouth.

Jim Cornette:
Oh and referee. This is for the World Title, main event of Halloween Havoc. This match will end ONLY by pinfall or submission.

***SELF HIGH FIVE***

A big pop emanates from the audience as DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE steps out from the back. After doing his “BANG” shtick and letting off his pyro, DDP nods his head at Cornette in a show of respect. DDP then continues on his way down the ramp, ready to capture the World Title tonight.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Title vs. Hair;
DDP’s Last Shot;

Raven (c)
defends against Diamond Dallas Page

These two know each other very well, and after their up and down results this year, but throughout their entire careers in WCW, there’s some tentative behaviour here. There’s a murmur of excitement around the arena, as the tension continues to build, things getting tenser by the moment. Neither man rushes, taking their time, but eventually the two bulls lock horns.

It's a Collar and Elbow Tie Up which leads to both men jostling for position. After it looks to be heading towards a stand still, Raven manages to get an extra bit of leverage and back DDP into the corner. The referee calls for a clean break once Page is stuck in the corner, and both men look happy to oblige, until Raven throws a cheap shot out of nowhere.

It backfires though as DDP dodges it by moving out of the way. The champion tries to hurry out of the corner, not wanting to be trapped, but he walks straight into some right hands from DDP. Page goes to town know with rights and lefts, and even some kicks. Much to the chagrin of the referee, DDP then clasps two handfuls of hair… AND HE THROWS RAVEN AROUND THE RING… USING HIS HAIR!!!

After the third throw, Raven stops getting up and walking towards DDP, and instead leans against the ropes. The number one contender is on a roll though, charging at Raven… CLOTHESLINE OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE FLOOR!!!

Raven gets no time to breathe as Page is immediately to the outside after him, and they start brawling at ringside. They brawl all around the ring, before taking things over the guard rail and into the crowd. Meanwhile, the referee kind of just aimlessly follows them, but he can’t get them out and entice them to get back inside based on Cornette’s ruling beforehand.

The brawl ebbs and flows amongst the crowd, both men taking turns having the advantage, until they eventually tumble back over the barricade, but now they are up and on the entrance ramp. The number one contender is back in charge at this point, and after softening Raven up with punches galore, he hooks Raven up…SUPLEX ON THE STEEL RAMP!!!

That move has an impact on both men’s backs, but it’s a lot worse for Raven. The elder DDP battles back to his feet and heads down the entrance ramp and now looking underneath the ring for a weapon. He scurries around for a moment, and then DDP pulls a TABLE out from under the ring.

Page hastily sets the table up on the floor, before heading back to Raven, who’s only just making it back to his feet now. Page applies a rough Side Headlock and lands a few knees to the ribs, before using the Headlock to guide Raven back down to ringside. At ringside, DDP lands some more punches before rolling Raven onto the apron.

DDP is fast to climb up after Raven, dragging him to his feet… DIAMOND CUTTER OFF THE APRON…

AND THROUGH THE TABLE…

NO!!! RAVEN DESPERATELY GRABS THE ROPES TO BLOCK THE HOLD!!!

Somehow, DDP stays on his feet as well, although he’s a little shocked and facing away… SO RAVEN PUSHES HIM RIGHT IN THE BACK… AND DDP STUMBLES FORWARD, BASICALLY HEADBUTTING THE RINGPOST!!!

DDP falls down on the apron, but Raven hurriedly shoves him underneath the bottom rope and inside the ring. Raven follows in AND RAVEN MAKES THE COVER…

NO!!!

DDP SHOOTS A SHOULDER OFF THE MAT!!!

The aggressive nature of DDP’s shoulder up causes Raven to roll of him. Our camera gets a close up of DDP’s face, and he has been busted wide open from his previous collision with the ring post. Like a shark smelling blood, Raven now tries to punch, kick, and he even bites at the cut of DDP, making it worse by the moment.

Raven is vicious, really having his way with Page now, before only relenting to step outside of the ring. Hunting for something, Raven finds himself a STEEL CHAIR and re-enters the ring with it. By this time, DDP has managed to back himself into the corner of the ring, leaning against the ropes to stay up. With the chair being held in front of him, Raven charges at DDP… DDP GETS HIS BOOTS UP… CAUSING THE CHAIR TO SMASH BACK INTO THE FACE OF RAVEN!!!

In complete shock, Raven drops the chair… AND DDP GETS A QUICK SHOOLBOY…

NO!!!

RAVEN ESCAPES THE FLASH PIN!!!

Both men bounce right back to their feet, and DDP throws a right hand. Raven blocks it AND STARTS DIGGING HIS FINGERS INTO THE CUT ON PAGE’S FOREHEAD!!!

Some of the audience members cringe at the brutality, as DDP shrugs Raven off and turns way. DDP is trying to wipe the blood out of his eyes, but Raven grabs him… BULLDOG ONTO THE STEEL CHAIR!!!

Raven gets back up and uses his foot to push DDP off of the chair. The champ now opens the chair up, placing it in the centre of the ring, as if it’s ready to be sat on. With the chair in position and hatred in his eyes, Raven hoists Page up and lands some right hands, before sending him to the ropes. When DDP comes back… DROP TOE HOLD!!!

NO!!! DDP MANAGES TO STOP HIMSELF AND GRAB THE CHAIR AND THROW IT AWAY… INSTEAD OF FALLING THROUGH IT!!!

Raven’s eyes go wide in surprise, and now he’s got more to worry about, as DDP lands repeated right hands on Raven. After a few more, DDP spins around… DISCUS LARIAT!!!

It seems like Page has got a second wind as he’s to his feet a lot faster now. He’s forced to pause for a moment though, wiping the blood out of his eyes. The sight of his own blood seems to infuriate DDP, who starts laying in right hands, harder than ever, just pinballing Raven up and down the ring.

When he’s forced to shake out his right hand from all the punches he’s landed, Page sends Raven to the ropes, and when the champ comes back, DDP sends him flying with a Back Body Drop! This gives DDP time to take a few steps to the right and pick up the steel chair. DDP stalks Raven, who slowly battles to his feet… PAGE BOUNCES THE CHAIR OFF RAVEN’S SKULL!!!

With a sense of satisfaction, DDP DROPS THE CHAIR AND PINS RAVEN…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

RAVEN ROLLS A SHOULDER OFF THE MAT!!!

Close but no cigar for DDP. He shakes his head for a split second, before getting back to his feet. Page looks to get his hands on Raven, but the leader of The Flock rolls across the ring, underneath the bottom rope and to the outside. Raven isn’t in control though, forced to slump in a seated position on the floor, so DDP immediately follows him out.

As Page goes out after Raven, he takes some long strides towards him… WHEN RAVEN POUNCES WITH A DROP TOE HOLD OUT OF NOWHERE…

SENDING DDP CRASHING FACE FIRST INTO THE STEEL STEPS!!!

Suddenly, our commentary team wonder if Raven was playing possum and luring DDP in, because he gets up more efficiently now. The champ drags DDP up by his hair and rolls him back into the ring. Raven follows in, AND RAVEN HOOKS THE LEG…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

SHOULDER UP BY DDP!!!

Raven remains on the job, not letting the near fall deter him. He goes right back to his weapon of choice, once again deciding to open the steel chair and have it ready for somebody to sit on. Raven now methodically drags DDP up… EVENFLOW DDT ONTO THE OPEN CHAIR!!!

NO!!! DDP SHRUGS RAVEN OFF AND PUSHES RAVEN HARD!!!

Raven stumbles and falls into a seated position on the chair, and DDP Clothesline Raven, causing him to fall backwards off the chair. The exhausted Page bends over, putting his hands on his knees to catch his breath. Once that’s done he stalks Rave, and when Raven’s up… DIAMOND CUTTER!!!

NO!!! RAVEN PUSHES DDP AWAY…

AND RAVEN HITS A SCORPION DEATH DROP!!!

The heat from the fans is ridiculously loud as Raven reverts back to using Sting’s moves. Enjoying the reaction from the crowd, Raven points up at the rafters. All eyes head up in that direction, but nobody is standing there. Feeling confident about everything with no signs of Sting, Raven yells loudly, “IT’S SHOWTIME, FOLKS”!!!

After his gloating is done, Raven stands over DDP, and slowly works him back to his feet… DDP GETS AN INSIDE CRADLE OUT OF NOWHERE…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

RAVEN JUST ESCAPES!!!

Despite DDP getting a flash pin attempt, Raven is up first, whilst Page can only make it to his hands and knees. Annoyed at the near miss, Raven charges at Page… KNEE LIFT CONNECTS!!!

The velocity of the blow sends DDP tumbling underneath the bottom rope and to the outside. Raven begins to panic though because he notices that DDP immediately goes snooping underneath the ring for another weapon. Leaning through the ropes with urgency, Raven grabs the waist band of DDP’s pants and tries to pull him back inside the ring… DDP EXPLODES AND HITS RAVEN IN THE RIBS WITH A BLACK BAT!!!

The fans mark the hell out at the appearance of the black bat, as Raven drops to his knees and crawls away. Whilst Raven looks to catch his breath, it gives DDP time to get back into the ring, still holding the bat. Raven gets back to his feet… DDP RUNS AT RAVEN… AND CLOTHESLINES HIM WITH THE BAT!!!

Raven begins coughing and spluttering, clutching at his throat. DDP could careless as somehow Raven hurriedly crawls to the corner and uses the ropes to pull himself up. He needs to lean against the corner of the ring for additional support, so DDP runs at him… STINGER SPLASH!!!

As DDP removes himself from the corner, Raven immediately staggers forward before falling to his knees. Sensing his next big move, DDP drops the bat, and heads to the apron before climbing up to the to top rope. DDP isn’t always about high risk, but this is the big time. He takes a moment or two to steady his footing… WHEN RAVEN HURLS A STEEL CHAIR RIGHT INTO THE FACE OF DDP!!!

CAUSING PAGE TO LOSE BALANCE AND FALL TO THE FLOOR…

CRASHING THROUGH THE TABLE WHICH WAS SET UP EARLIER IN THE PROCESS!!!

Just like that, all of the air is driven out of the arena, as the fans realise that the number one contender is in strife. DDP is motionless on the cold, hard concrete floor, surrounded by the rubble of what was a stable table not that long ago. After catching his breath, utterly exhausted, Raven gets up and looks to the outside and likes what he sees.

The champion gets a major shit eating grin on his face, as he calmly leaves the ring to approach Page. It takes time because DDP is dead weight at this point, but Raven persists and eventually gets DDP up and back into the ring. Raven follows after rolling DDP in, and he can probably just pin him now and end it, but he decides against it.

Instead, Raven drags the limp body of DDP up one more time… EVENFLOW DDT!!!

RAVEN HOOKS THE LEG…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

THREE!!!

WINNER: RAVEN VIA PINFALL at 19:10. RAVEN RETAINS THE WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP.

Immediately given the World Title by the referee, Raven sticks his arms out wide, performing the ‘Raven’ pose. It gets MAJOR heat from the fans, but Raven could care less, he’s still the champ.

It doesn’t take long for Flock members PERRY SATURN and SCOTT STEINER to run to the ring, and Steiner has clippers in his hand.

As Raven simple watches on with a slight smirk, Saturn places the unconscious DDP into a steel chair. Saturn holds him in place… AND STEINER BEGINS USING THE CLIPPERS TO SHAVE THE HEAD OF DDP!!!

The crowd boo furiously but there is absolutely nothing they can do. The haircutting continues until DDP’s hair is very short, and then they simple discard DDP from the ring so they can continue to celebrate.

Raven noticed the black bat still in the corner of the ring. He heads over and picks it up, and he holds it up for the crowd to see.

The fans start a “STING” chant, desperate for the man to appear…

But there’s no Sting. Instead, RAVEN SNAPS THE BLACK BAT OVER HIS KNEE!!!

With a look of disdain on his face, Raven throws the left over pieces of the bat to the outside. The crowd realise that Sting isn’t coming now, and they begin peppering The Flock with garbage.

As the ring fills with litter, Steiner and Saturn applaud Raven, who poses with the World Title, still on top of the world as we fade away…

Just to set expectations, it's likely the road to World War 3 (which I'm nervous to write since I've never even written a Rumble, let alone a WW3 match), will be in the same condensed version we saw in the back end of the road to Halloween Havoc. Still undecided on how I'll write the build to Starrcade as I continue to rush towards the goal of 2001.

Chris Jericho defeated D’Lo Brown to retain the WCW United States Championship to open the show. Another successful title defence from Jericho, but not one without assistance, as the WCW Television Champion William Regal distracted D’Lo, allowing Jericho to sneak the Roll Up from behind for the win.

Next up it’s in ring promo time from The Flock. WCW World Heavyweight Champion Raven gloats about all the things he’s done during his reign of terror. These now include taking Diamond Dallas Page’s signature hair, running Sting out of WCW and killing the Four Horsemen. Raven continues on until Chris Benoit interrupts. Benoit encourages Raven to gloat as much as he can over the next four weeks. World War 3 is in Canada this year, so Benoit will be using his WCW World Title rematch at World War 3!!!

The Hardy Boyz defeated Lance Storm and William Regal. They were able to pin Storm, after removing Regal from the ring, and hitting Storm with the Twist Of Fate followed by a Swanton Bomb combo. After the match, The Hardyz get on the microphone, and The Hardy Boyz challenge Edge and Christian to a tag title match!!!

Dick Togo defeated Low Ki to retain the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. It’s worth noting that are being used as a jobber in squash matches in any appearances made so far, Ki looked impressive here. He hung in with the champ, in a back and forth match. In the end though, Togo was too strong, hitting his Back Senton to win.

Scott Norton squashed Paul London. After the match, Norton is consistent with his messaging since pre Halloween Havoc and calls out Vader. Instead of Vader though, it’s once again the WCW Champion Raven who comes to the stage to address Norton’s call out. Raven states that after Vader’s great success last night in destroying Ric Flair… Vader has been given the night off!!! Apparently the world would have to wait another week without the fight that EVERYONE wants. As Raven leaves, Norton is FURIOUS, obviously fed up with the games and the waiting.

Backstage, all in good moods after the successful reveal of their friendship at Halloween Havoc, the WCW Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian, as well as Kurt Angle are hanging out. As we pick up their discussion, Angle demands another shot at the US Title. Meanwhile, Edge and Christian REFUSE to face The Hardy Boyz for the tag titles. Unfortunately for the dastardly trio, they are joined by the WCW President Jim Cornette. Cornette scolds them, telling them he is disgusted in them as their alliance is built on greed and obsession with their respective titles. Cornette admits that Angle does potentially deserve a title shot after his previous shot was ruined with interference after less than two minutes. If Kurt Angle can defeat Dean Malenko tonight, he will get a US Title Match at World War 3… Oh and Cornette hasn’t forgotten about the tag champs. Edge and Christian WILL defend the tag titles next week against The Hardy Boyz. And Kurt Angle will be BARRED from ringside.

The Dudley Boyz defeated Curt Hennig and Scott Steiner after hitting Hennig with the 3D. Hennig was left to fend for himself, as Scott Steiner fled through the audience when Goldberg ran down to stop Steiner from using a steel chair.

Kurt Angle defeated Dean Malenko. Angle pinned Malenko after nailing him with an Angle slam, in what was a CLEAN victory. Kurt Angle will now get a US Title match against Chris Jericho at World War 3. During and after the match, the commentators continued to put over interested onlookers Booker T and Val Venis who’re unable to be here tonight due to injuries suffered at Halloween Havoc.

Chris Benoit and Goldberg defeated Buff Bagwell and Perry Saturn of The Flock in the main event.
Benoit was able to make Bagwell submit to the Sharpshooter to keep his momentum going towards his title shot at World War 3. After the match, Raven slid into the ring and approached Benoit from behind, but Benoit managed to grab Raven and apply the Crippler Crossface!!! The remainder of The Flock run down to try and assist Raven, and it means Goldberg FINALLY gets his hands on Scott Steiner. Goldberg and Steiner brawl to the back, leaving The Flock to decimate Benoit in a five on one attack. Dean Malenko and Jamie Noble attempt to save, but they fall victim to the numbers as well. The beatdown on Benoit continues until Scott Norton comes down and starts destroying The Flock with LARIATS!!! As his cronies get cleared from the ring, Raven flees and backs up the ramp, watching on, World Title in hand, but no longer feeling as confident as he did in the beginning of the night.

Billy Kidman defeated Juventud Guerrero with the Shooting Star Press. Billy Kidman will now get a WCW Cruiserweight Championship opportunity against Dick Togo next week on Nitro.

D’Lo Brown and Rey Mysterio defeated William Regal and Dick Togo. The match ended when D’Lo hit the Lo Down, and D’Lo pinned Regal, further submitting his claim for another shot at the WCW Television Championship.

Kurt Angle defeated Low Ki. Angle was relatively comfortable here, winning with the Angle Slam. After the match, Angle decided to send a message to one of his long time rivals, grabbing Low Ki, and nailing him with a Book End. Angle then grabs a mic and lets it be known that come World War 3, he will be the new US Champion.

For the first time in basically forever in this BTB, it’s time for a member of the Board of Executives to get involved. That’s right, it means it’s time for some J.J. Dillon in ring promo time. He announces that after much consideration the board have made a decision, and a spot was being held among the 60 places in World War 3 for Sting to enter the match!!! Big news from Dillon and the fans are pumped up for it to. It doesn’t take long for WCW Champion Raven to come down and rain on everybody’s parade. He lets Dillon know that Sting is dead and gone forever. Sting will NEVER return to WCW.

The Hardy Boyz defeated Edge and Christian VIA DQ; therefore Edge and Christian retain the WCW Tag Team Championships. Jeff Hardy nailed Christian with the Swanton Bomb and it looked like we’d have new champions, but then Edge pulled the referee out of the ring and slapped him in the face, causing the DQ. Edge and Christian escaped with the titles, whilst The Hardyz were left fuming inside of the ring.

Scott Steiner defeated Paul London in a squash match. After the match, Goldberg came down but Steiner YET AGAIN escaped through the crowd. Instead of giving chase this week, The Berg remains in the ring with a mic and tells Steiner he’s next, and Steiner can’t run forever.

Raven and Curt Hennig defeated Chris Benoit and Jamie Noble in the main event.
The ending came about when Hennig and Noble were left alone, and Hennig was able to hit the Hennig Plex and pin Noble. After the match, all four men continued to brawl, and the show ends with Benoit getting Raven in the Crippler Crossface. The last image we see before fading to black is Benoit making Raven tap out in the centre of the ring…

WCW Monday Nitro
November 13th, 2000
Atlanta, Georgia

Billy Kidman defeated Dick Togo to WIN the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. Kidman was able to hit the Shooting Star Press and get the pin, after some failed interference from former Cruiserweight Champion, Kaz Hayashi.

The Dudley Boyz defeated Christian and Kurt Angle. It was a back and forth contest, until Edge kept trying to interfere. After getting involved numerous times, Edge’s interference was cut off by The Hardy Boyz. Christian saw this happening on the outside and got involved, allowing The Dudleyz to hit the 3D on Angle for the victory.

CIMA defeated Rey Mysterio in what many considered an upset. Mysterio was in control and was on the apron, ready for the West Coast Pop, when Taka Michinoku distracted him. The distraction was enough for CIMA to grab him and hit The Schwein for the shock victory.

In the back, we see WCW Champion Raven and the rest of The Flock walking through a hallway and approaching a closed locker room door. The locker room nameplate reads ‘The Flock’, however the blue door has been spray painted in black, with the words “GIVE BACK WHAT’S OURS” on the door. Raven and The Flock look to be confused by this, when they then notice a black baseball bat on the floor next to the locker room door…

William Regal defeated Yoshihiro Tajiri to retain the WCW Television Championship. Regal gets the win after running through Tajiri with the Knee Trembler. After the match, D’Lo Brown interrupts Regal’s celebration and DEMANDS his TV Title match. The champion takes a moment to think about it and then Regal REFUSES the challenge. Only a moment later, WCW President Jim Cornette comes out. He mentions that champions in WCW have forgotten that he’s in charge. With that being said, they do deserve the benefit of being champions. Therefore, at World War 3, it will be Edge, Christian and William Regal vs. The Hardy Boyz and D’Lo Brown and if the challengers win, they will all get title shots at Starrcade.

Now we get some in ring promo time from Raven, who once again is accompanied by The Flock. Raven says that he will prove who the true man in WCW is at World War 3. He then guarantees that Sting is gone forever. No World War 3 spot set aside for Sting by WCW management could ever convince Sting to return.

Chris Jericho defeated Juventud Guerrera to retain the WCW US Championship. Jericho forced Juvi to submit with the Walls Of Jericho. Kurt Angle made his way out and watched the match from the stage, and after the contest, Angle sneaks down and lays out Jericho with an Angle Slam.

In the main event, Chris Benoit and Ric Flair defeated Raven and Perry Saturn via DQ. Throughout the match, The Four Horsemen unit of Benoit and Flair continued to have tension between them. The match ended when Benoit managed to get Raven in the Crippler Crossface for the second week in a row, but Saturn hit Benoit with a chair before Raven could tap for the second week in a row. The Horsemen and The Flock get into a big brawl after the match. The Flock have the numbers advantage until Diamond Dallas Page runs out, buzz cut and all. DDP doesn’t have his way for long when Vader runs down to attack DDP. The Flock look to regain control, but then Scott Norton and Goldberg run down the ramp, causing The Flock to decide to hurry away and fight another day…

I've been meaning to comment for a few weeks now and finally got the chance.

I don't mind the brief recap you're doing at the moment to get through to a much larger project in the World War 3 match. If you're going to end up writing that it'll be a giant task, but would definitely be keen to see it attempted.

I'm all for a hometown hero winning but I think with Starrcade so close on the horizon, keeping the belt on Raven and setting him up as the big bad for the biggest show of the year is where we are heading. I think Benoit is looking super strong in the three weeks we've got here and I like the visual tap on Raven during the second week.

I could have used a different way to end one of the shows, as we end the night with 3 brawls/run-in style scenes each week.

EZ, thanks for the comments. I am planning to write WW3 in full. Considering I've never even written a Rumble before; it will be interesting to say the lead. And apologies, we get another show ending brawl here, albeit with a twist. Damn me and my lack of creativity.

This is also the go home show for WW3 PPV so predictions contest to follow shortly.

WCW Monday Nitro
November 20th, 2000
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Chris Jericho and CIMA defeated Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio. The heel duo was able to isolate Mysterio, with CIMA hitting the Schwein, before Jericho finished Rey off with the Lionsault. Throughout the match, the current US Champion Chris Jericho and the number one contender to the Cruiserweight Championship Billy Kidman had several heated fights around ringside, showing there is still PLENTY of hatred between them after their feud and multiple PPV matches over the Cruiserweight Championship earlier in the year. During the match it’s also announced that CIMA will be challenging Billy Kidman for his newly won title at World War III.

The number one contender for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Chris Benoit is interviewed in the back. He talks about this Sunday’s World War III being in Canada, meaning his family will be there and his mentor (Bret Hart) will be there. He says he will NOT let them down.

D’Lo Brown defeated Christian. D’Lo secured the pin after hitting the Lo Down. Post match, a HUGE brawl broke out featuring D’Lo, the WCW Television Champion William Regal, Christian, Edge and The Hardy Boyz. These six men meet in six man tag team action this Sunday.

The Flock’s Scott Steiner and Vader defeated The Dudley Boyz. Vader finishes off D’Von with a Chokeslam. After the match, they send a message to their respective rivals, with Vader creaming D’Von with a Scott Norton like Lariat, whilst Scott Steiner impressively gets Bubba Ray Dudley up for a Goldberg like Jackhammer. To make things more confusing, it’s also announced on commentary that at World War III, Scott Norton and Scott Steiner will meet in a one on one match.

William Regal defeated Paul London to retain the WCW Television Championship. London is a jobber in WCW at this point, but let’s just say he sold his ass off and the match was great for the few minutes it went.

Kurt Angle defeated Bryan Danielson in a future dream match that isn’t quite a dream match yet. Angle Slam gets Kurt the win. Post match, Kurt overdoes his celebration, signalling that the US Title will be his, only to be given the US Title right across his skull by the champion himself, Chris Jericho. It’s worth noting that the audience is VERY mixed, not knowing who to cheer between two of the more disliked heels on the roster.

Main event tag saw number one contender Chris Benoit and Scott Norton defeat WCW World Heavyweight Champion Raven and Perry Saturn. As Benoit and Raven duked it out, Norton was able to finish off Saturn with his deadly Lariat! After the match, chaos ensued with more members of The Flock and The Four Horsemen getting involved in a big brawl. Somehow, Benoit and Raven get isolated in the middle of the ring, and Benoit managed to lock in the Sharpshooter. After a brief struggle, Raven taps out!!! Saturn looks to break the hold, WHEN FLAIR SWINGS WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!!

NO!!! SATURN AVOIDS CONTACT…

AND FLAIR INADVERTENTLY BREAKS THE SHARPSHOOTER…

BY SMASHING THE STEEL CHAIR ACROSS THE SKULL OF BENOIT!!!

Flair’s in complete shock, pausing and looking regretful, until Saturn socks him in the mouth and the brawl continues. It’s absolute carnage here… WHEN SUDDENLY THE LIGHTS GO OUT…

AND SCORPION SYMBOLS LIGHT UP THE CANVAS!!!

The Flock all flee to the back, and even Flair and co looked shocked. The fans cheer loudly, expecting this to be a sign that Sting is coming back, as an apologetic Flair and The Horsemen then check on the groggy Benoit to end the show…

Spoiler: roy you won the predictions contest lol. Thanks for those.

WCW World War 3 - November 26th, 2000
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The show comes to air with pyro ripping through the building, as the fans go absolutely wild. The firework display lasts for a substantial amount of time, the cameras panning around the arena, before we shoot over to the commentary duo of TONY SCHIAVONE and DUSTY RHODES.

Tony Schiavone:
Welcome everybody to World War 3 2000, presented to you by World Championship Wrestling. I’m Tony Schiavone alongside me as always is a legend of professional wrestling, Dusty Rhodes.

Dusty Rhodes:
Thanks for the kind words, Tony. It’s a pleasure to be here in the great white north tonight, I’m excited for what’s to come.

Tony Schiavone:
Before the action begins, let’s talk a little more about what’s to come tonight, Dusty. Everybody is ready for our main event, the World War 3 match itself, but we’ve also got three title matches on the card for tonight, starting with Billy Kidman defending the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against CIMA.

Dusty Rhodes:
We haven’t really seen these two lock horns to often in the past, so this is an unpredictable one. I think I’m going to have to stick with the champion.

Tony Schiavone:
One thing’s for sure, Kaientai will be hoping they can regain their monopoly over the Cruiserweight title. The previous two champions have been Kaientai members in Kaz Hayashi and Dick Togo. The question remains, can CIMA join that list?

Dusty Rhodes:
We’ve also got the WCW United States Championship on the line tonight when Chris Jericho defends against Kurt Angle. Tony, I’m telling you right now, I’d put my house on it, these two are future main eventers here in WCW, this match could steal the show.

Tony Schiavone:
No arguments from me there, you’re the in ring expert behind the desk for a reason. Jericho, the current US Champion has honed his craft all over the world, and well Kurt Angle’s qualifications speak for themselves, he’s an Olympic Gold Medallist.

Dusty Rhodes:
I’m sure he’d like to add another US strap to that trophy cabinet at home, Tony.

Tony Schiavone:
Most definitely. And talking about gold, it doesn’t get any bigger than the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. After the champion Raven used a loophole back in September to defeat Chris Benoit after a gruelling War Games match, Benoit has scratched and clawed, finally earning a rematch tonight.

Dusty Rhodes:
With his Flock behind him, the master manipulator that is Raven has looked unstoppable as champion… But so did Vader, and Benoit managed to dethrone him.

Tony Schiavone:
Plus we’re in Benoit’s hometown tonight. His family are here for added motivation, his mentor is here in the audience, which we’ll touch on a little more shortly. But titles aren’t the only thing on the line tonight.

Dusty Rhodes:
That’s right, we’ve got a six man tag with title implications, Tony. WCW Television Champion William Regal teams with WCW Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian to take on D’Lo Brown and The Hardy Boyz. If the champions lose, the winners will be their title challengers at Starrcade.

Tony Schiavone:
We’ve also got a match that makes me nervous because I’m not entirely sure this arena can restrain the two competitors. It’s Scott Norton versus Scott Steiner, and since returning at Fall Brawl, Norton has had one thing on his mind, and that’s getting his hands on Vader. Our WCW Champion Raven has been preventing that at all costs, but it was announced earlier tonight that if Scott Norton beats Steiner tonight, he’ll get his match with Vader at Starrcade!!!

Dusty Rhodes:
I know we’re supposed to be impartial, but I can’t help but be team Norton tonight. Norton versus Vader, those two big behemoths battling boldly is something I want to see.

Tony Schiavone:
And of course, we have to talk about the main event. The World War 3 match itself. Sixty men, three rings, a Battle Royal type match where the last man standing will go on to challenge the WCW World Heavyweight Champion at Starrcade.

Dusty Rhodes:
Every man in that locker room backstage is in there because they have a dream to be the WCW Champion. If you don’t have that dream, you’re in the wrong sport. Tonight, sixty men get the opportunity to earn a shot of a lifetime, a shot at the most coveted prize in the business.

Tony Schiavone:
We know that fifty nine of the competitors have been confirmed, but we also know there is one open spot in World War 3. That spot has been reserved by JJ Dillon in case Sting does return to compete tonight.

Dusty Rhodes:
Can you imagine the look on Raven’s face if we did see Sting tonight? The Scorpion symbols on Nitro, the black baseball a few weeks ago, there have been signs, Tony.

Tony Schiavone:
There have indeed, Dusty, we’ll just have to wait and see like everybody else. One return of sorts to WCW that we can confirm, we have a very special audience member tonight. We referred to him as Chris Benoit’s mentor earlier, he’s a man who has not made a television appearance since retiring earlier this year at Spring Stampede. Ladies and gentlemen, we are lucky enough to have Canada’s own Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart in the crowd.

The cameras pick up BRET HART, sitting in the front row, donned in a black leather jacket with the ‘hitman’ logo, and some blue jeans. Bret looks to be in good spirits, smiling wildly at the ENORMOUS pop when his face appears on the big screen. The loyal Canadian fans start a “BRET” chant, serenading their hero when…

***TOO MUCH INFORMATION***

Just as we thought the fans couldn’t get any louder, they EXPLODE with a memorable pop as CHRIS BENOIT storms through the curtain. Another one of Canada’s own, Benoit gets shown plenty of love from his home country crowd. On commentary, they are confused as Benoit isn’t scheduled out here until later tonight.

The number one contender to the World Title doesn’t care though, heading the crowd and shaking the hand of Bret Hart to huge cheers. ‘The Rabid Wolverine’ then rolls in the ring, grabbing himself a microphone in the process. Already in his gear, once his music dies down, Benoit paces, waiting for the raucous cheers to lower so he can speak.

Chris Benoit:
We’re in Canada, my hometown, and I’ve had to work for two long months to make sure Raven couldn’t wriggle his way out of a match with me. I’ve got no more patience; I don’t want to wait. I’m ready, the people sound ready, I want Raven right now.

Another thunderous pop can be heard, the fans clearly on side with Benoit’s thoughts. The number one contender is forced to wait a few moments, wondering if his call will be answered…

***COME AS YOU ARE (INSTRUMENTAL)***

The call is answered, as the WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION RAVEN slowly appears from the back, receiving ungodly heat from the crowd. Dressed in his less traditional wrestling attire, the champ looks ready to go. Wearing a knowing smirk, Raven stops midway down the ramp and pulls a mic from his back pocket.

Raven:
It’s not often we see eye to eye Benoit, but I happen to agree with you tonight. I’d love to start a great night off by embarrassing you and the whole of Canada in one fell swoop.

Raven drops the mic, and the statement surprisingly gets cheers. A referee sprints passed Raven and slides into the ring, and it looks like we’re indeed kicking tonight’s show off with a World Title match…

WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Raven (c)
defends against Chris Benoit

As soon as Raven gets inside the ring and the referee calls for the bell, Benoit is on him. He is ferocious, letting out his pent up frustration and just hammering Raven with right hands and chops. There is nothing Raven can do except cover up and get pinballed around the ring, as the challenger is relentless. The Canadian fans are loving it, as Benoit continues to go to work on Raven, beating him around the ring, until a particularly stiff right hand sends Raven tumbling through the ropes and to the outside.

The referee pleads with Benoit to not head to the outside, but Benoit sidesteps the official. On the outside, Raven still hasn’t recovered so Benoit drags him up by the hair and tees off with more right hands. Conveniently, Raven attempts to stagger away, ending up right in front of Bret Hart. Once again, Benoit uses Raven’s hair to drag him back towards him, before hooking him up… SNAP SUPLEX ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!!

Gasps come from the audience for a such a big move so early, as Benoit bounces back to his feet. Admittedly, Benoit feels at his own back for a moment, before slapping high five with Bret. ‘The Rabid Wolverine’ knows he needs to stay on task though, quickly focusing back on Raven, hoisting him up and rolling him back inside the ring.

Benoit follows Raven in, but Raven scoots on his backside, pleading for mercy, and trying to get away from Benoit. It’s almost an eerie smile from Benoit, who’s got no plans of stopping. As he bends down to grab Raven though, the champion gets a desperate thumb to the eye. Now it’s Benoit’s turn to step away momentarily, rubbing at his eye, but this just seems to make the challenger mad. After rubbing his eye, Benoit charges at Raven… RAVEN HOPS TO HIS FEET… AND GETS A DROP TOE HOLD!!!

SENDING BENOIT FACE FIRST INTO THE BOTTOM TURNBUCKLE!!!

Despite his face taking the contact, Benoit immediately grabs at his neck, potentially suffering some whiplash from the collision. Meanwhile, this gives Raven the time he needs to shake out the cobwebs, and he slowly pulls himself to his feet. The champion is happy at the sight of Benoit being down, and the fans hate it. This allows Raven to have his way with Benoit now, really beating him down, focusing on the head and neck area.

Raven continues to have his way with the challenger, and he continuously points at Benoit and tells the Canadian fans, “LOOK AT YOUR HERO NOW”! As the domination from Raven continues, the fans hatred gets louder and louder. After another near fall, Raven decides to bring Benoit back to his feet, but ‘The Crippler’ explodes, shrugging Raven off and going to town with some hard chops to the chest.

The chops are as brutal as ever from Benoit and are enough to cause Raven to stumble backwards. Eventually Raven is forced to place both arms over his chest, attempting to block the blows, but Benoit uses the movement to grab Raven in a Vertical Suplex position… BENOIT HITS A GOURDBUSTER… HANGING RAVEN OVER THE TOP ROPE BY HIS MIDSECTION!!!

Somehow, Raven’s prone body remains balanced on the top rope, hanging there. Defenceless and in pain, Raven just lays over the top rope as Benoit approaches and begins teeing off with repeated crossface strikes to the champion’s face. Unfortunately for Benoit, lying on the top rope qualifies as being in the ropes, so the referee counts to four, before forcing a break in action by threatening to disqualify the Canadian.

As Benoit is forced to back pedal and give his opponent some space, Raven finally tumbles off the top rope and back to the canvas. Raven tries to battle to his feet, but Benoit his right back on him, landing a few clubbing shots to the back. Benoit then snatches a Waist Lock… GERMAN SUPLEX!!!

Benoit maintains his grip around the waist of Raven and drags him back up… SECOND GERMAN SUPLEX!!!

Rinse and repeat as yet again, Benoit maintains his grip and brings Raven back to his feet… TRIPLE GERMANS LAND!!!

The fans cheer loudly, appreciating the move, as Benoit gets back up and puts his thumb across his throat, signalling it’s about to be all over. With the fans buzzing in anticipation, Benoit stomps across the ring, and steps onto the apron, before ascending to the rope. Benoit takes a moment to steady himself… WHEN RAVEN PUSHES THE REFEREE WITH HIS FEET… CAUSING THE REF TO FALL INTO THE ROPES!!!

BENOIT LOSES BALANCE AND GETS CROTCHED ON THE TOP ROPE!!!

Another dirty tactic gets Raven some heat from the crowd, but he couldn’t care any less at this point. Wiping his long, messy hair from his face, Raven is back up and heads to the corner, landing a few right hands to Benoit in the process. Satisfied with Benoit being out of it, Raven now climbs up to the top rope, manoeuvring Benoit in the process… SUPERPLEX FROM RAVEN!!!

Both men remain down for a few moments, UNTIL RAVEN MANAGES TO DRAPE AN ARM OVER THE CHEST OF BENOIT…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

BENOIT SHOOTS A SHOULDER OFF THE MAT!!!

Once back on his feet, now it’s Raven’s turn to play to the fans again, as he dusts his hands together, letting them know the match is finished. With a cocky smirk, Raven drags the still Benoit to his feet… EVENFLOW!!!

NO!!! BENOIT GETS A DOUBLE LEGGED TAKEDOWN…

AND IMMEDIATELY STEPS THROUGH AND APPLIES THE SHARPSHOOTER!!!

The Canadian crowd lose their minds, going absolutely apeshit, as even Bret Hart pumps his fist in the crowd. Benoit really sits back on the hold, applying all the pressure he can, and all Raven can do is scream. Raven is stuck in the middle of the ring, nowhere near the ropes, tears of agony welling up… WHEN HE RAISES HIS HAND TO TAP…

BUT BENOIT RELINQUISHES THE HOLD???

There’s a slight moment of confusion before Benoit charges across the ring, hitting a running forearm to knock BUFF BAGWELL off the apron. The number one contender is then forced to run to another side of the ring, and bump CURT HENNIG off the apron. THE FLOCK are well and truly making their presence felt, as then Benoit hits a right hand to knock PERRY SATURN off the apron too.

Benoit is fighting against the numbers now, as the fans viciously boo the outside interference. Benoit’s eyes are darting all over, waiting for who’s next, when Bagwell gets back onto the apron. Before Benoit can go deal with Bagwell again, the referee approaches Buff, and BAGWELL GRABS THE REFEREE TO ARGUE WITH HIM… PREVENTING THE REFEREE FROM TURNING BACK TO THE ACTION!!!

Benoit is still on high alert for outside interference, keeping an eye on Saturn and Hennig… WHEN RAVEN GETS A LOW BLOW FROM BEHIND!!!

Major heat from the crowd, who urge the referee to turn around, but he’s firmly stuck in the grip of Bagwell. As Benoit crumbles to his knees, grabbing at his testicles, on the outside, Saturn grabs the World Title and slides it inside the ring. Raven picks it up and stalks Benoit, who slowly gets back to his feet… RAVEN NAILS BENOIT IN THE HEAD WITH THE TITLE!!!

Raven throws the title back out, and of course, Bagwell now lets the referee go and gets off the apron. The ref turns back to face the action, ONLY TO SEE RAVEN HOOK BENOIT’S LEG WITH THE PIN…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

BENOIT SOMEHOW GETS HIS SHOULDER UP AGAIN!!!

An epic pop can be heard, as Benoit shows some of his incredible resilience. Raven’s eyes go wide in shock, he really can’t believe it. The leader of The Flock begins barking instructions at his comrades, when DEAN MALENKO and JAMIE NOBLE sprint towards ringside. The Four Horsemen are here (for the most part), and Malenko and Noble immediately begin brawling with Bagwell and Hennig.

The fans cheer loudly as the four men brawl around ringside, and the referee pleas with them to cut it out. With the referee distracted once again, there’s still a chance for interference from the one illegal man not involved in the brawl, and that’s Saturn. The bald wrestler slides into the ring, armed with a steel chair, stalking Benoit. Raven watches on and when Benoit gets up… SATURN SWINGS THE STEEL CHAIR!!!

NO!!! BENOIT DUCKS…

SATURN ACCIDENTALLY HITS RAVEN WITH THE CHAIR!!!

Saturn drops the chair, almost in shock, and Benoit quickly grabs Saturn and throws him outside of the ring. At this stage, the other four men brawling have moved through the curtain and out of the view. This means the referee concentrates on the match again, just in time to see Benoit steadying himself on the top rope… DIVING HEADBUTT!!!

IT CONNECTS!!!

Benoit grabs at his face, feeling the pain of the gruesome move. After a few moments of recover, BENOIT PINS RAVEN…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

THE REFEREE GETS DRAGGED OUT OF THE RING…

BY HOLLYWOOD HOGAN!!!

Another Flock member, one that Benoit defeated one month ago, just prevented Benoit from becoming champ. The heat is deafening, as the referee argues with the chuckling Hogan on the outside. Inside of the ring, an exhausted Benoit looks around, curious as to what’s happening. Once he spots Hogan on the outside, Benoit shakes his head in fury, getting to his feet. Benoit takes a few steps towards Hogan, when he’s spun around from behind.

Saturn hoists Benoit up on his shoulders… DEATH VALLEY DRIVER ONTO THE STEEL CHAIR!!!

Saturn slides out of the ring now, taking the chair with him. Meanwhile, Hogan motions for the ref to stop arguing with him and get back into the ring. The referee obliges in time to see Raven crawling across the ring… AND RAVEN MAKES THE COVER…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

NO!!!

BENOIT INCREDIBLY GETS HIS SHOULDER UP AGAIN!!!

Somehow, Benoit is still showing signs of life. His faithful Canadian fans are chanting his name, doing all they can to urge Benoit on. Meanwhile, Raven is back to his feet, and he drags the heroic Benoit up… EVENFLOW!!!

RAVEN HOOKS THE LEG…

…1…

………………………..

…2…

………………………..

THREE!!!

WINNER: RAVEN VIA PINFALL at 13:50. RAVEN RETAINS THE WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP.

The heat is VULCANIC from the fans, they’re absolutely disgusted because their hometown hero has been done dirty. The Flock are extremely pleased though, with a relieved Raven being given his title from Hogan.

Saturn on one side, Hogan on the other, Raven stands in the centre of the ring, raising his WCW Title, which he’ll now presumably carry into Starrcade over his head.

After relishing the fury from the fans, eventually The Flock exit the ring. Before heading up the ramp though, Hogan stops in front of Bret Hart and hits a bicep flex right in front of him.

Bret gets to his feet, annoyed at a man he has no love loss for. Hogan taps his chin, daring Bret to hit him, but Hart doesn’t flinch. Eventually, Hogan laughs and joins Raven and Saturn at the top of the stage. The show begins with Raven reigning supreme yet again…

Remaining at ringside, our cameras pan up to the rafters, clearly looking for the saviour that WCW might need. At this stage of the night though, the rafters remain empty.

Tony Schiavone:
As you can see by the live shots of the rafters inside this very arena, Sting is presumably not here as of yet. As mentioned on Nitro, JJ Dillon has reserved a spot in the World War 3 match for Sting if he is to show up.

Dusty Rhodes:
All those hints and clues over the past few weeks on Nitro, he has to show up, Tony.

Tony Schiavone:
Not to mention after what he just saw, Raven triumphant again. The Flock, the cheating, the numbers advantage, not even Chris Benoit could overcome those odds.

Dusty Rhodes:
Exactly. We need Sting, and we need him now. Come on, Stinger, we’re counting on you.

BACKSTAGE – INTERVIEW SET

Standing at the interview set, albeit on his own is the man who will challenge for the WCW United States Championship tonight, KURT ANGLE. Red, white and blue singlet on, which of course gets him heat from the fans, and gold medals around his neck, Angle looks focused ahead of his match tonight.

Kurt Angle:
Tonight is a big night and regardless of whether Sting comes out of hiding or not, tonight is a night for celebration. This is my one year anniversary. That’s right, your Olympic Gold Medallist has been in WCW for one year and what better way to celebrate than by winning the US Title back. The same title that was stolen from me.

Angle frowns at remembering losing the title, but takes a few breaths, and maintains his composure.

Kurt Angle:
In fact, winning back my title is not all I’m going to do tonight. Once I’m done kicking Chris Jericho’s butt, I’ll go on to win World War 3. Because unlike Canada, America has never lost a war.

An absurd amount of heat from the fans, but Kurt ignores them. He’s focused and ready to go, apparently planning quite the successful night…

Six Man Tag Team Match
If D’Lo Brown and The Hardy Boyz win, they challenge the respective champions at Starrcade;
Edge, Christian and William Regal vs. D’Lo Brown and The Hardy Boyz w/Lita

The early stages of this one are frustration for the fans and for the potential challengers, as Edge, Christian and Regal are happy to stall. They play mind games, refusing to lock up and basically just trying to frustrate their opponents. After doing this for a little longer, the champs decide to have a three way meeting of the minds on the floor… WHEN THEY ALL GET TAKEN DOWN WITH A FLIPPING SENTON FROM JEFF HARDY!!!

Booming cheers ring out for the big time move, as Jeff, feeling the effects a little, still staggers up pretty fast. He decides to grab a hold of Christian and he rolls him back into the ring. Jeff has his way with Christian inside of the ring, hammering away, until he eventually makes an unexpected tag to D’Lo. The man gunning for Regal and his TV Title is happy to put in the work on Christian.

Using more power based offense than Jeff, D’Lo is able to whatever he wants with Christian also, before tagging in Matt Hardy. Now it’s the elder Hardy brothers turn to tee of on Christian, and he does so, really working Christian over. After inflicting some more damage, Matt watches Christian, waiting until he makes it to his knees, and then Matt bounces off the ropes for momentum… BUT REGAL GRABS MATT’S FOOT, TRIPPING HIM OFF THE ROPES!!!

Matt lands uncomfortably face first, and the fans boo the cheating from Regal loudly. That one move though is enough to turn the tide, and allow the battle worn Christian to recover. Christian is able to freshen up and then he begins stomping all over the fallen Matt, getting some back for earlier. The elder Hardy gets isolated from here, with the heel team working effectively as a unit, even performing some fluid triple team moves at times.

Of course, Matt shows signs of life, trying to fight back throughout the heat period of the match, however frequent tags and illegal tactics keep the champs in control. Despite several near falls, the heels are unable to put Matt away and eventually the tide starts to turn. The tag champs are both in the ring with Matt, attempting another double team as Christian holds Matt in place. Meanwhile, Edge bounces off the ropes to pick up speed… CLOTHESLINE!!!

NO!!! MATT DODGES EDGE…

AND EDGE CLOTHESLINE HIS OWN PARTNER!!!

Christian falls to the canvas, as Edge puts his hand on his head in shock. Realising Matt is most likely behind him, Edge panic and turns around… RIGHT INTO A SIDE EFFECT!!!

All three men inside the ring stay down as the fans begin a slow clap, urging Matt to get to his corner and make a tag. Both Matt and Edge begin heading to their respective corners, and Edge manages to tag in Regal… JUST AS MATT GETS THE HOT TAG TO HIS BROTHER JEFF!!!

Jeff comes in and uses his high octane, fast paced offense to keep Regal at bay. Having recovered, Christian and Edge both try to get involved but Jeff is able to keep them under control as well. As Jeff starts focusing in on Edge and Christian, Regal looks to use the distraction to sneak from behind, but D’Lo intercepts him. Brown lands several right hands, stunning Regal, before kicking him in the gut… DDT!!!

Whilst Brown was taking care of Regal, Edge and Christian had managed to drop Jeff, simply by overwhelming with numbers and pummelling him down to the mat. As D’Lo gets back up after the DDT, HE TURNS INTO A DOUBLE FLAPJACK FROM EDGE AND CHRISTIAN!!!

The tag champs get up, proud of themselves… STEREO DROPKICKS FROM THE HARDY BOYZ TAKE THEM DOWN!!!

Wanting to escape, both Edge and Christian instinctively roll underneath the bottom rope and to the outside. They get to their feet, both checking on each other, but they don’t see Matt Hardy climbing to the top rope… MOONSAULT OFF THE TOP FROM MATT TAKES OUT EDGE AND CHRISTIAN ON THE OUTSIDE!!!

The spot gets a big pop from the crowd, and even Jeff gets caught up in the moment, applauding his brother. This allows Regal to clobber Jeff from behind, forcing Jeff to drop to his knees. Regal hook’s Jeff’s arms… RELEASE BUTTERFLY SUPLEX!!!

Instead of going for the cover, Regal looks at the multi-coloured haired Jeff with disdain. Using that same mentioned hair, Regal drags Jeff up… SETTING HIM UP FOR THE TIGER BOMB!!!

NO!!! MATT TAKES REGAL DOWN WITH A FLYING CLOTHESLINE OFF THE TOP ROPE!!!

Sensing the match slipping away, an urgent Christian jumps onto the apron, but D’Lo is there to knock him off with a hard right hand. With Christian being prevented from getting in, Edge is able to slide in from the opposite side, and he stalks Jeff. Once Jeff turns around, Edge runs at him… SPEAR!!!

JEFF SIDESTEPS EDGE…

AND EDGE ACCIDENTALLY SPEARS REGAL!!!

It’s the second time tonight that Edge has taken out one of his partners. He gets up, again stressed with the miscommunication, before turning into a kick to the stomach from Matt… TWIST OF FATE!!!

Matt gets no time to enjoy the moment because he sees Christian this time stepping into the ring. Matt scrambles to his feet and charges at Christian… CACTUS CLOTHESLINE TAKES BOTH MEN OVER THE TOP AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

Still hurt from the Twist Of Fate, Edge has rolled to the outside for a reprieve, leaving Regal in the ring all alone. Clutching at his mid-section after the inadvertent Spear, Regal stumbles to his feet… RIGHT INTO A SKY HIGH FROM D’LO!!!

Instead of going for the cover, Brown signals for Jeff to head up top. Getting encouragement from the fans and his partner is all he needs, as Jeff climbs up high to the top rope… SWANTON BOMB ON REGAL!!!

JEFF TURNS OVER TO HOOK REGAL’S LEG…

THREE!!!

WINNERS: D’LO BROWN AND THE HARDY BOYZ VIA PINFALL at 11:18.

We get our first feel good result of the night, as D’Lo and The Hardys are jubilant in victory. Despite their differing personalities, all three celebrate together, sharing hugs, knowing they’re all one step closer to their title aspirations.

The trio even celebrate back up the ramp together, having apparently built quite the synergy during their one night stand as a team.

Tony Schiavone:
There you have it, Dream. We now know that at Starrcade, the titles will be defended against the victors. William Regal will defend his WCW Television Championship against D’Lo Brown and Edge and Christian will defend the WCW Tag Team Championships against The Dudley Boyz.

Dusty Rhodes:
We’ve seen both these matches before, but the issues remain. I can’t wait to find out who the best of the best is in both these decisions at Starrcade.

We get one last image of the victorious trio still enjoying themselves on the ramp before we cut away…

BACKSTAGE – THE FOUR HORSEMEN LOCKER ROOM

Three of THE FOUR HORSEMEN are in the locker room, with RIC FLAIR giving DEAN MALENKO and JAMIE NOBLE a congratulatory pat on the back for their work earlier tonight. Malenko and Noble look appreciative, when suddenly CHRIS BENOIT barges into the ring. Sweat still dripping from his forehead, Benoit looks less than impressed, his eyes not leaving Flair.

Chris Benoit:
You’re right, they did a great job out there, but we were still one man short. Thanks for your help, Ric.

Flair’s jaw immediately clenches, but he doesn’t look Benoit in the eye. Instead, he performs busy work, checking the laces on his boots. Benoit stares down Flair, hoping for a retaliation but there isn’t one.

Benoit takes a deep breath, settling himself down, before turning his attention towards his other two Horsemen brothers.

Chris Benoit:
Not a great start to the night but things are looking up. I talked to JJ Dillon just a moment ago, he wasn’t happy with how my match went either. Since I was completely robbed, I might have an opportunity. If Sting doesn’t show up, JJ has confirmed, I can have his spot in World War 3.

Malenko and Noble are enthusiastic, all smiles and punching the air in celebration. The Nature Boy doesn’t exactly have the same reaction though, a peculiar expression on his face, almost displeased.

Ric Flair:
Regardless of how many of us are in there, if we want the right Horseman to win, we need to draw up a strategy and stick together.

Benoit raises his eyebrows, clearly irked over what Flair’s implying there. Flair is displeased, Benoit looks downright furious, and we’ve still got plenty of time until the war even begins…

WCW United States Championship Match:
Chris Jericho (c)
defends against Kurt Angle

One thing to note in this one before we start is the crowd reaction is very interesting. Whilst both men are hated heels, Jericho is adopted as the situational babyface for this one. This is mainly because he’s from Canada, and Angle is so pro USA that he had to badmouth Canada earlier in the night. Surprisingly from Jericho’s perspective, they start things off with some mat wrestling, which quite clearly plays to some of Angle’s strengths.

To Jericho’s credit though, he trades move for move with Angle, showing his experience gained over the years counts for something to. They continue to go back and forth, with Angle getting visibility more and more frustrated at each Jericho reversal. After Angle forces a break from an Arm Bar by grabbing the ropes, the two look set to meet in the centre of the ring. Having the advantage, Jericho is content to continue wrestling, but Angle’s had enough, socking Jericho with a right hand to the jaw.

The blow gets boos from the fans, but more importantly, it staggers Jericho. Angle pounces with a few more punches, before grabbing Jericho by the tights and throwing him outside of the ring. Not wasting a solitary second, Angle follows Jericho to the outside, unloading with some more big right hands. After rocking Jericho further… ANGLE IRISH WHIPS JERICHO BACK FIRST INTO THE STEEL STEPS!!!

The velocity of the impact causes the steel steps to displace, making an even louder noise echo throughout the arena. With a devilish grin on his face, Angle is pleased, whilst the Canadian fans are clearly concerned about the hurting Jericho. Angle decides he’s not done with the outside the ring attack, as he stomps all over Jericho, before rolling back in and out of the ring to break up the count.

Yells of annoyance come from the referee, but Angle isn’t interested in upholding the rules right now. Kurt drags Jericho by the hair… AND THIS TIME ANGLE IRISH WHIPS JERICHO… SENDING HIM CRASHING BACK FIRST INTO THE CROWD BARRICADE!!!

It’s the second big blow in a short amount of time, and Jericho drops to his knees, grimacing in pain. Meanwhile, Angle is gaining confidence as he now picks up the sore and sorry Jericho and rolls him back inside the ring. Once inside, Angle keeps it simple, just kicking Jericho in the mid-section a few times. From here, Angle is able to continue to work on the back and midsection of Jericho, almost putting him away numerous times.

Kurt isn’t afraid to push his luck either, only acknowledging the referee’s count and breaking holds at the last possible moment. Jericho’s heart is on full show here though, as he refuses to be put down. Getting irritated at the persistent champion, Angle drags him up to his feet and lands some more stiff right hands. Angle sends Jericho the ropes… JERICHO BOUNCES BACK WITH THE SUPER BABYFACE FLYING FOREARM~!

Jericho lands on his feet after the shot, whilst Angle drops as if he’s been shot. It’s out of shock more than anything else, so Kurt is quickly back up, but now it’s Jericho’s turn to land shot after shot, pinballing Angle around the ring. The fans continue to get louder, as Jericho’s attack consisting of right hands eventually results in Angle dropping to the canvas again.

Sensing his chance, the US Champ hurries across the ring and climbs his way up to the top rope. Jericho waits for Angle to get back to his feet… FLYING BACK ELBOW!!!

JERICHO HOOKS THE LEG…

NO!!!

ANGLE KICKS OUT!!!

Wiping the matted hair out of his face, Jericho is not to be deterred, manoeuvring Angle into the position he wants him to be in. Jericho stands over Kurt, before shoving Angle’s head between his legs and hooking his arms… DOUBLE UNDERHOOK BACKBREAKER!!!

Angle brutally lands sternum first on the canvas but immediately rolls onto his back. The gold medallist isn’t moving in the centre of the ring, so Jericho runs to springboard off the ropes… LIONSAULT!!!

CONNECTS…

WITH THE RAISED KNEES OF ANGLE!!!

Jericho immediately starts heavy breathing, having lost all the air in his lungs. Adjusting his knee pads, Angle works his way back to his feet, and how he’s stalking Jericho. The US Champ staggers back to his feet, still grabbing at his midsection, when Kurt comes from behind… ANGLE SLAM!!!

NO!!! JERICHO SLITHERS OUT AND LANDS BEHIND ANGLE!!!

Before Kurt can react, Jericho bounces off the ropes… ONE HANDED BULLDOG!!!

Getting back up and giving the fans a “COME ON BABAY”, the champ runs towards the ropes again… LIONSAULT!!!

NO!!!

THIS TIME ANGLE ROLLED OUT OF THE WAY!!!

Jericho lands with a thud on the canvas, and once again starts favouring his midsection. This time Angle remains down on the canvas, taking a few moments to catch his breath. Realising Jericho is in pretty severe pain, almost as if we are watching a replay, Angle gets to his feet and starts stalking Jericho again.

Looking as focused as ever, Angle waits and when Jericho gets up and stumbles backwards towards the centre of the ring… Kurt is there… ANGLE SLAM!!!

NO!!!

JERICHO GETS OUT BEHIND HIM AGAIN…

JERICHO GETS AN O’CONNOR ROLL…

ANGLE ESCAPES IN THE NICK OF TIME!!!

Adrenaline fuelling both men, they bounce back to their feet and meet in the centre of the ring… ANGLE SNAPS OFF AN OVERHEAD BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX!!!

Jumping back to his feet again, now Angle is feeling it. He begins jumping up and down, pulling down his singlet straps, and almost daring Jericho to get back up. Say what you want about Jericho’s character, but he’s playing the valiant role of champion tonight. Angle watches Jericho like an eagle stalking his prey, and when Jericho is up… ANGLE SLAM!!!

NO!!!

JERICHO TURNS IN MID AIR…

NAILING ANGLE WITH A MODIFIED DDT!!!

An epic pop greets the incredible reversal by Jericho. Both men remain down for a few moments, but the cheers from his hometown fans slowly urge Jericho to his feet. Once up, wiping some of his hair out of his eyes, Jericho heads to the apron and ascends to the top rope. Jericho remains perched on top, and when Kurt gets to his feet… MISSILE DROPKICK!!!

NO!!!

ANGLE SIDESTEPS THE FLYING JERICHO!!!

Jericho has an awful landing and Angle senses is right away. Knowing he needs to land that killer blow; this time Angle doesn’t wait for Jericho to reach a vertical base. Angle drags Jericho up and roughly snatches his grip… ANGLE SLAM!!!

NO!!!

THIS TIME BEFORE ANGLE CAN EVEN LIFT JERICHO…

JERICHO EXPLODES WITH BRUTAL KNEES TO THE TEMPLE OF ANGLE!!!

Angle relinquishes his grip and staggers backwards, until both men sprint at each other… DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE!!!

Both men are down and this time neither looks like they are getting up anytime soon. The referee begins to count both men out, making to give when suddenly the count stops. Both men are still down, but the referee has stopped because BOOKER T has run down the ramp and leaped onto the apron.

The fans buzz in anticipation for the arrival of Booker, who immediately begins arguing with the referee. Whilst this argument continues, there’s some commotion over the crowd barricade as VAL VENIS comes through the crowd and jumps onto the apron. The referee is preoccupied with Booker, so Venis heads to the top rope… MONEY SHOT CONNECTS!!!

ON KURT ANGLE!!!

A big time pop greets the move, as Val immediately rolls underneath the bottom rope. Getting pats on the back from his hometown fans also, Val heads over the crowd barricade and begins his great escape through the crowd. Seeing that Val is well and truly gone, Booker jumps off the apron, allowing the referee to get back to calling the action.

Booker doesn’t disappear like Venis though, remaining at ringside to watch what happens next. Jericho slowly gets up, utterly exhausted, but notices Angle is down. Third times a charm as Jericho hobbles towards the ropes and springboards… LIONSAULT!!!

THIS TIME IT LANDS PERFECTLY!!!

THREE!!!

WINNER: CHRIS JERICHO VIA PINFALL at 15:02. CHRIS JERICHO RETAINS THE WCW UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP.

Again, if not for the context of location and opponent, it would be strange to see a Jericho victory getting such a positive reaction here tonight.

Jericho still has though heel instincts though, so he’s quick to roll to the outside. Halfway up the ramp, the referee catches up to him, handing him the US Title and raising his hand in victory.

It’s a triumphant moment amongst LOUD cheers, and Jericho genuinely enjoys it, seemingly not realising that he had some help tonight.

Once Jericho disappears through the curtain, Angle recovers inside of the ring, attempting to push himself up... SCISSORS KICK FROM BOOKER T!!!

Angle gets dropped again to another huge ovation, which only gets greater as Booker busts out the Spinarooni!!! Booker's amped up and excited, happy to have gotten some revenge on Angle, but it’s likely their story is far from over…

BACKSTAGE – GORILLA POSITION

Just behind the curtain, we see the WCW President JIM CORNETTE pulling the referee for the next match aside. Cornette is already mid dialogue, chatting rather sternly with the official.

Jim Cornette:
Look, you know that these two are both unpredictable to say the least, but there’s a lot at stake with this Norton and Steiner match tonight. There might be some interference, maybe some rule breaking, who knows? All I can ask of you is to please be as lenient as possible.

The referee nods his head, understanding and Cornette pats him on the back and sends him on his way…

BACKSTAGE – INTERVIEW AREA

It’s light work for Mean Gene and co tonight, because again in the interview set, we have a wrestler on their own. GOLDBERG appears in wrestling gear, looking ready for World War 3. The unexpected appearance gets an INCREDIBLE reaction from the fans, but The Berg doesn’t acknowledge the reaction, opting to keep the snarl on his face instead.

Goldberg:
Sixty men, three rings, but tonight I’m keepin’ it pretty simple. I’ve got two goals; one is to get my hands on Scott Steiner. The second goal is to repeat my performance from 1998 and win World War 3.

Short and sharp from The Berg, who grunts from the camera and leaves, the fans cheering him on the entire time…

Singles Match
If Scott Norton wins, he faces Vader at Starrcade;
Scott Norton vs. Scott Steiner w/Buff Bagwell

Steiner is out first with his back up, but when Norton enters, the referee calls for the bell and these two monsters immediately explode. The ref does his best to get out of the way, as these two trade hard right hands, and stinging chops to the chest. It’s chaos and stiff from the get-go, neither backing down, but eventually Norton gets on top, managing to repeatedly nail Steiner.

All ‘Big Poppa Pump’ can do is crumble in the corner, and Norton continues to hammer away. Sensing things are dangerous early, BUFF BAGWELL JUMPS ONTO THE APRON AND YELLS AT NORTON TO GET HIS ATTENTION!!!

Norton charges over and wraps his arms around the neck of his former Vicious and Delicious teammate. Bagwell freaks out, unable to break Norton’s grip and he tries to beg off, but Norton shakes his head. The big man cocks his fist, ready to go… BUT STEINER CLOBBERS NORTON FROM BEHIND BEFORE HE CAN CLOCK BAGWELL!!!

Steiner’s a powerful man in his own right, and that one shot is enough to drop Norton to his knees. Steiner stays on the attack from here, keeping Norton grounded, and holding some form of control over his opponent. It doesn’t last overly long though, because Norton is just too powerful to be kept down, and after a while, he starts no selling Steiner’s strikes, trembling with rage in the process.

‘The Genetic Freak’ doesn’t stop though, continuing to swing wildly at Norton, but Norton continues to battle back to his feet. Once he’s back to his feet, Norton regains control, overpowering Steiner. Norton simply begins hurling Steiner around the ring, the offense isn’t pretty but it’s certainly effective. After softening up Steiner, he has the ability to get him on his shoulder and walk to the corner of the ring… NORTON DRILLS STEINER WITH A RUNNING POWERSLAM!!!

Before Norton can go for the pin, Bagwell freaks out and slides into the ring. He mindlessly charges forward… BUT NORTON TAKES BAGWELL’S HEAD OFF WITH A LARIAT!!!

Gigantic pop as Norton finally gets to take down his former partner. After dropping Bagwell, Norton stands over him and yells some abuse, only to turn and walk into Steiner… STEINER THROWS NORTON WITH AN EXPLODER SUPLEX!!!

An incredibly quick recovery time from Steiner to land that move, showing that he’s just as tough as they come also. Now ‘Big Poppa Pump’ has a few moments to get back to his feet and shake out the cobwebs, not familiar with being overpowered very often. Steiner then taps his bicep, signalling that he’s about to try and take Norton out with a Lariat.

Steiner drags Norton to his feet, landing a few right hands, before sending Norton bouncing off the ropes. Norton bounces back… LARIAT FROM STEINER!!!

NO!!!

NORTON GRABS THE ARM OF STEINER AND WHIPS HIM INTO THE ROPES…

STEINER BOUNCES BACK… AND NORTON CATCHES HIM WITH A POWERSLAM!!!

Bouncing back to his feet, feeling the adrenaline and momentum, Norton now rips off his elbow pad and throws it to the crowd. Norton is ready to finish things off. A massive pop hits at the removal of the elbow pad, and Norton stalks Steiner, until VADER RUNS DOWN THE RAMP AND SLIDES INTO THE RING!!!

Norton spots him on the way down the ramp and is waiting for him, AND VADER AND NORTON FINALLY START THROWING HANDS!!! The fans lose their minds, the arenas at a fever pitch, as these two finally do battle. They continue to trade shots, neither backing down, the intensity and hatred only growing. One from Norton, one from Vader, Norton, Vader, Norton, Vader… UNTIL STEINER CLOBBERS NORTON FROM BEHIND YET AGAIN!!!

STEINER POUNCES WITH A BACKDROP SUPLEX!!!

Vader slides out of the ring, feeling like job well done, AS STEINER HOOKS THE LEG…

NO!!!

NORTON SHOOTS A SHOULDER OFF THE MAT!!!

Shaking his head in disbelief, Steiner starts slowly pulling Norton back to his feet. As he’s doing this, he motions for Vader to get back inside the ring. Vader does get back in, watching on closely, when Norton manages to shrug Steiner off and push him away. Before Steiner can get back to Norton… GOLDBERG RUNS THROUGH STEINER WITH A SPEAR!!!

Goldberg has come out of nowhere to accomplish one of his goals for tonight, and that’s get his hands on Steiner… VADER AND NORTON ENGAGE AGAIN AT THE SAME TIME, HAMMERING AWAY WITH A HOCKEY FIGHT!!!

The referee realises there’s a difference between leniency and mayhem, shrugging his shoulders… AND THE REF CALLS FOR THE BELL!!!

DOUBLE DISQUALIFICATION at 8:34.

The bell rings signalling the end of the match, but the massive brawl continues. Vader and Norton tumble to the outside, continuing their hockey fight, whilst Goldberg drags Steiner up throws him to the outside.

Goldberg joins the three other men on the outside and has his way with Steiner, until A STRAY RIGHT HAND FROM VADER CATCHES GOLDBERG!!!

Now Goldberg turns his attention towards Vader and begins hammering away at him… BUT NORTON DOESN’T LIKE IT AND SHOVES GOLBDERG OUT OF THE WAY!!!

Now we get Norton and Vader again, but The Berg isn’t happy. He looks set to step in and go nose to nose with Norton… WHEN A BARRAGE OF SECURITY GUARDS AND AGENTS MAKE THEIR WAY DOWN TO PULL EVERYBODY AWAY FROM EACH OTHER!!!

Steiner is back up now to, yelling and screaming like only he can. It takes several minutes for all four men to be pulled apart, the fans booing and chanting “LET THEM FIGHT” throughout the entire process.

Eventually, the men are all carted to the back, and order is restored. However, one question remains, what does this mean for Norton/Vader at Starrcade?

BACKSTAGE – FOUR HORSEMEN LOCKER ROOM

CHRIS BENOIT, DEAN MALENKO, JAMIE NOBLE and RIC FLAIR are all in their wrestling gear. All four men are doing their individual warmups ahead of World War 3, with Flair shooting the odd annoyed sideways glance at Benoit. ‘The Rabid Wolverine’ is taking this pre match prep just as serious as the rest of them, despite not officially being in the match.

The warmups continue, until J.J. DILLON walks into the room. He politely handshakes all four of the Horsemen, before zeroing in on Benoit.

J. J. Dillon:
Chris, I come with some good news for you personally. Sting still isn’t here. World War 3 needs sixty competitors not fifty nine, so you’re in World War 3.

Benoit claps his hands together intensely, excited with the announcement. He shakes JJ’s hand again, and Dillon turns to leave, only for a hand on his shoulder to stop him. Dillon turns around, coming face to face with a bewildered Flair.

Ric Flair:
Whoa, JJ, I don’t want to tell you how to do your job, but are you sure? Is this fair to Sting? What if Stings just being Sting and being mysterious before the match?

Benoit shakes his head in disbelief at the question, whilst Dillon just shrugs at Flair’s questions.

JJ Dillon:
Sting very well may be adding some intrigue and playing some mind games by not showing his face as of yet. If that’s the case, I don’t think Chris being in the match changes anything. Sting will just come down anyways when he’s ready.

‘The Nature Boy’ has a flash of annoyance over his face, before he nods in understanding. Dillon then wishes them all luck and leaves, an awkward silence now filling the locker room, as The Four Horsemen continue to prepare…

RINGSIDE

***KAIENTAI***

Boos start to come from the fans as the number one contender to the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, CIMA steps through the curtain. The heat gets louder as he makes his way down the ramp, revealing that DICK TOGO and KAZ HAYASHI are on the way down to ringside with him. Once in the ring, CIMA motions for the Cruiserweight title to be around his waist, with his former champion buddies nodding along in agreement.

***KID MAN***

The mood in the arena changes with quite the pop greeting the arrival of the WCW Cruiserweight Champion, BILLY KIDMAN. Kidman slaps hands with the fans on his way down the ramp, before stopping and taking a deep breath halfway down the ramp. He unstraps the title before getting to the ring, realising he’s outnumbered and Kidman slides inside, ready to defend himself immediately.

There is no attack initially, but the referee begins requesting that the non-competing members of Kaientai leave the ring. They attempt to talk strategy and point menacingly at Kidman. Togo and Hayashi seem to refuse to leave… SO THE REFEREE EJECTS THEM FROM RINGSIDE!!!

CIMA goes bonkers as the fans cheer loudly and Kidman smirks. Togo and Hayashi are forced to leave, with the ref threatening a disqualification, and as Kaientai make their way to the back, it looks like we are getting a one on one title match tonight.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match:
Billy Kidman (c)
defends against CIMA

This one is what we’d call a typical Cruiserweight spotfest. These two men start off at an extremely quick pace, bouncing back and forth around the ring, with plenty of high risk. It’s relatively even for the first few minutes until CIMA is able to capitalise on a mistake from the champion and take advantage. From here, CIMA puts on an impressive performance, really dominating Kidman and cleverly keeping him grounded.

Much like his Kaientai contemporaries, CIMA also shows no hesitation to cheat whenever possible, to interrupt Kidman attempting to build some momentum. Kidman shows why he’s the champion though, showing grit and determination to stay in the match. Eventually, CIMA has Kidman where he wants him, backing him into the ropes with some punches, before sending Kidman bouncing off the opposite ropes, and when Kidman comes back… KIDMAN LEAPS INTO THE AIR AND LANDS ON CIMA WITH A DESPERATION CROSSBODY!!!

Not wanting to be pinned, CIMA immediately rolls Kidman off of him. The move seems to have given the champion a second wind though, as Kidman matches CIMA’s speed back to his feet. The two meet in the centre of the ring, but Kidman runs through CIMA with a Clothesline. The challenger jumps back up, only to be dropped with a second Clothesline, which is then immediately followed by a third.

After the third Clothesline, CIMA stays down, and Kidman is forced to bend down to lift CIMA back to his feet. Kidman applies a Side Headlock and drags CIMA to the corner, before climbing to the top rope. Kidman never let’s go of the head of CIMA, steadying himself… TORNADO BULLDOG!!!

NO!!! CIMA SHOVES BOTH HANDS IN KIDMAN AND SHOVES HIMSELF FREE!!!

Before Kidman can react, CIMA lands a huge palm strike to the chin! With Kidman knocked loopy after that, CIMA HITS THE ICONOCLASM!!!

The fans are surprised at the awesomeness of CIMA, as he equally surprisingly, opts not to go for the cover. Instead, CIMA steps out to the ring apron and climbs up to the top rope. The fans urge Kidman to recover as CIMA leaps off the top… THE MAD SPLASH CONNECTS!!!

Sensing his chance now, CIMA now plays to the crowd, signalling he’s about to finish things, which garners some heat. CIMA goes over to Kidman and stands over him, slowly bringing Kidman’s head between his legs… CIMA GETS KIDMAN UP FOR A POWERBOMB!!!

NO!!! YOU CAN’T POWERBOMB BILLY KIDMAN!!!

KIDMAN REVERSES INTO A FACEBUSTER!!!

The fans pop loudly whilst commentary put over CIMA’s inexperience in big singles match costing him so far. Earlier, he ran straight into a BK Bomb because he lost his head, and now he tried to Powerbomb Kidman, which nearly everybody knows not to do. Anyway, Kidman gets back up to his feet, and for the second time tonight, he drags the prone body of CIMA to the corner of his choice.

This time Kidman grimaces through the pain and ascends to the top rope with a little more urgency. After surveying the excited crowd for a moment, Kidman leaps off… SHOOTING STAR PRESS!!!

BACKSTAGE – RANDOM AREA

The scene comes to life with medics scurrying, all huddled over a fallen body. As our camera zooms out, we see shattered glass surrounding the body, proof that the body has been thrown through the broken window next to it. As the medics continue to tend to the fallen person, a gap in their huddle appears and our camera picks up that its VILANO III.

The medics continue to do work, when along with a backstage crew member, a panicked JIM CORNETTE and J.J. DILLON appear. Both men look exasperated, shaking their head in disbelief, but also looking concerned for the battered wrestler.

Jim Cornette:
I can’t believe this, this night is a nightmare. We only just filled the vacancy left by Sting’s no show and we’re again short a guy for World War Three.

JJ nods in agreement, hands on hips, thinking.

J.J. Dillon:
Hmm, hopefully he’ll be okay… Is there anyone else who can take the spot?

The president shakes his head.

Jim Cornette:
Uh uh, nope. I stretched my resources as it is, I even brought in a bunch of guys for the Battle Royal and they’re all in. It looks like we’re breaking tradition this year, I guess it will be fifty nine men in War Games this year.

Neither looks happy with the decision, but they share a nod, having made the decision. They then focus in on worrying about Villano III, whilst on commentary, Tony Schiavone mentions there could still be sixty competitors in War Games if Sting shows up…

BACKSTAGE – INTERVIEW SET

This man needs to do some work considering his pay bracket, so we see MEAN GENE OKERLUND standing by.

Mean Gene Okerlund:
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time, he’s a man who successfully defended the WCW United States Championship under somewhat dubious circumstances tonight… CHRIS JERICHO!!!

Still in his wrestling gear as he’s pulling double duty tonight, CHRIS JERICHO smarmily smirks at Okerlund, patting his title on his shoulder. Of course, the Canadian fans yet again mark out at the appearance of one of their hometown heroes.

Mean Gene Okerlund:
Chris, Kurt Angle gave you a hard fought battle, and some would say if it wasn’t for Kurt’s enemies in Booker T and Val Venis getting involved, you might not be the United States Champion right now. What are your thoughts?

The champion doesn’t let Okerlund’s question get to him, shrugging it off with ease.

Chris Jericho:
Looking back at hypotheticals and what if this happened or what if this didn’t happen is loser talk, Gene-O. I am still the champion and anything else doesn’t matter.

Jericho taps the title again, feeling rather giddy, but suddenly he gets rather serious, as CHRIS BENOIT comes into shot. The two Canadians, who do not like each other, go nose to nose, as the fans lose their minds.

Chris Benoit:
It sounds to me, Jericho, like you got lucky again.

Jericho scoffs at the intense ‘Rabid Wolverine’.

Chris Jericho:
I guess you are in a position to judge other people’s performances tonight, huh Benoit. I mean it was nice to see a fellow Canadian win the gold at home… OH WAIT!!!

Benoit clenches his jaw at the mention of his failure early tonight, whilst the US Champ continues to ham it up.

Chris Benoit:
Oh yeah, laugh it up well you can. I could take that title from you just like that. Every time we’ve wrestled, I’ve beaten you, hell earlier this year, I took you out. You are not on my level. The truth is that everyone knows you barely made it out of the Cruiserweight division. And since returning from when I tore your shoulder apart, you’ve won and kept the US Title on pure luck.

Having gotten the final word, Benoit gives Jericho one last look before leaving. Once Benoit has disappeared, the infuriated Jericho throws a tantrum, kicking the interview set in a rage…

RINGSIDE

During the last few segments, a majority of the wrestlers have been making their entrances for World War 3. The following competitors are already in one of the three rings:

AJ Styles, Alex Wright, Billy Kidman, ‘Hardwork’ Bobby Walker, Booker T, Bryan Danielson, Bubba Ray Dudley, Chavo Guerrero Jr, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Christian, CIMA, Dean Malenko, Diamond Dallas Page, Dick Togo, Disco Inferno, D’Lo Brown, D’Von Dudley, Edge, El Dandy, Goldberg, Hector Garza, Ice Train, Jamie Noble, Juventud Guerrera, Jeff Hardy, Jushin Liger, Kaz Hayashi, Kenny Kaos, Koji Kanemoto, Kurt Angle, Lance Storm, La Parka, Lizmark Jr, Low Ki, Matt Hardy, Meng, Paul London, Psicosis, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Robby Rage, Scott Norton, Scotty Riggs, Silver King, Super Calo, Tajiri, Taka Michinoku, The Barbarian, Vader, Val Venis, Villano IV, Villano V, William Regal

The rings are definitely getting crowded now, with almost all the entrants out from the back…

***COME AS YOU ARE (INSTRUMENTAL)***

It’s not the first time we’ve heard this theme tonight, but it’s just as loud, as THE FLOCK begin making their entrance for World War 3. Full of confidence and all smiles after Raven’s successful title defence earlier, BUFF BAGWELL, CURT HENNIG, HOLLYWOOD HOGAN, PERRY SATURN and SCOTT STEINER. The heat continues for the villains and a lot of the babyfaces in the ring are eager to get their hands on them. Instead, The Flock stops halfway down the ramp, with Hogan pulling a mic from his back pocket, much to the disdain of the fans.

Hollywood Hogan:
Whoa, whoa, hold on just a second, dudes. I’ve been around this business for a long time, hell, I made this business, brother. Nowadays I’m somewhat of a traditionalist and it isn’t World War Three without sixty people. Being the good Samaritans that we are, dudes, we have a solution.

It’s a fake cheesy toothy grin from Hogan, which gets incredibly loud heat. Hogan shrugs and then points up to the empty rafters.

Hollywood Hogan:
You should all be grateful that we’ve come up with something. I’ve said it for years now, WCW’s favourite son, Sting is nothing but a coward.

VULCANIC like heat erupts at the insult to Sting, and The Flock all snicker, enjoying the moment.

Hollywood Hogan:
So without further ado, it’s time to get World War Three started. Therefore, get off your butts and give this man the ovation he deserves, brother. It gives me great pride to introduce the final entrant into World War Three…

***COME AS YOU ARE (INSTRUMENTAL)***

The boos get even LOUDER as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion RAVEN joins the rest of his Flock on the stage. They’re all smiles, feeling like they’ve pulled the wool over everybody’s eyes as now they have a huge numbers advantage. Once at the bottom of the ramp, The Flock have a conference, not rushing, realizing everybody is watching them…

WHEN BENOIT HITS A TOPE SUICIDAAA TO TAKE THEM ALL DOWN!!!

Epic pop from the Canadian crowd, as Benoit begins swinging at anything that moves on the outside, igniting a massive brawl. Extra officials run down to try and separate things, but Benoit is literally teeing off on everybody.

The Flock have no choice but to roll into the ring to escape Benoit. ‘The Rabid Wolverine’ follows in after them, and the referees call for the bell…

World War Three:

As soon as the bell rings, it’s chaos equally spread across all three rings. It’s heavy traffic with sixty men across the trio of rings, and right away, we see a trend of alliances and teams working together to use their numbers. In particular, The Flock, The Four Horsemen, Kaientai and the relatively new trio of Edge, Christian and Kurt Angle all look out for each other.

Speaking of The Flock, it isn’t long before they separate themselves from Benoit, heading to the far ring. Once there, they set up a defensive formation of sorts, starting with Raven leaning against the turnbuckles in the corner of the ring. The rest of The Flock stand guard in front of Raven, ready to fight anybody who gets close. Of course, The Flock also have Vader fighting by their side, and he takes the odd pot shot at whoever walks past to, just really wanting to inflict punishment on anybody.

In the first ring, Lance Storm and William Regal have opted to team together, realising how beneficial the numbers advantage is. They single out Lizmark Jr. and are able to isolate him. They beat Lizmark down, before Regal and Storm pick him up… AND THEY THROW LIZMARK OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #1: LIZMARK JR. BY LANCE STORM AND WILLIAM REGAL!

Regal and Storm look down at the fallen Lizmark, admiring their handiwork before turning towards a much more difficult battle. They are greeted by D’Lo Brown and Tajiri, who immediately begin brawling with them in the centre of the ring. Over in the middle ring, The Hardy Boyz are on a run, using their double team offense to take down multiple opponents.

After ripping off their tops to the squealing of the females in the crowd, Matt and Jeff zero in on Hector Garza. Matt peppers away at Garza with right hands, before whipping him into the opposite corner of the ring. Matt runs towards Garza and gets on his hands and knees, allowing Jeff to springboard off of his back… POETRY IN MOTION!!!

As Jeff lands, Garza staggers out of the corner, leaning against the ropes, so Matt and Jeff link hands and run towards him… DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE SENDS GARZA TUMBLING OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #2: HECTOR GARZA BY JEFF HARDY AND MATT HARDY!

Unlike Regal and Storm earlier, The Hardyz do not take a moment to admire their work. Instead, they turn back towards the action… AND ALEX WRIGHT SPRINTS TOWARDS THEM BOTH… LOOKING FOR A DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE OF HIS OWN!!!

NO!!! THE HARDY BOYZ DUCK UNDER AND BACK BODY DROP WRIGHT OVER THE TOP AND ONTO GARZA ON THE FLOOR!!!

ELIMINATION #3: ALEX WRIGHT BY JEFF HARDY AND MATT HARDY!

Back in the first ring, there’s a lot of typical plodding Battle Royal offense going on, with multiple pairs of wrestlers stuck going at it in the corners of the ring. This allows a flashback to an old school Saturday Night tag war to break out, when Scott Norton and Ice Train reunite to face off with The American Males. IT’S FIRE AND ICE VS. THE AMERICAN MALES IN THE YEAR 2000, BABY!!!

Ice and Norton use their strength advantage to throw both men around. After already feeling the effects of Norton getting at him earlier tonight, Bagwell decides to crawl away, back into the corner where the rest of his Flock buddies are. This leaves Riggs on his own, and he looks sad at the fact that he has been betrayed by Bagwell again. Norton and Ice Train simply shrug, and using teamwork… FIRE AND ICE GET RIGGS UP INTO A MILITARY PRESS POSITION…

AND THEY THROW RIGGS OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #4: SCOTTY RIGGS BY ICE TRAIN AND SCOTT NORTON!

Ice Train is all pumped up after the big elimination, looking for a fist bump from Norton, but it’s not there. Instead, Norton has now locked his eyes on the rest of The Flock, and in particular Vader. The Flock ready themselves for a fight as Norton stomps over, only to be clobbered from behind by The Faces of Fear! Meng and The Barbarian put in the work on Norton, dropping him to his knees.

Watching on is Ice Train, who looks set to intervene, but he’s blindsides with a Body Splash from the side by Vader. ‘The Mastodon’ lazily drags Train up… VADER THROWS TRAIN OVER THE TOP AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #5: ICE TRAIN BY VADER!

Vader smirks, watching Norton get beaten down by Meng and The Barbarian, and feeling like he got one up on Norton by eliminating his former partner. Meanwhile, in the third ring, The Dudley Boyz have managed to isolate Koji Kanemoto, and after beating him down in the corner… THE DUDLEY BOYZ HOIST KOJI OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #6: KOJI KANEMOTO BY BUBBA RAY DUDLEY AND D’VON DUDLEY!

As The Dudleyz go searching for their next victim, action breaks out on the other side of the ring. The young duo of Bryan Danielson and Paul London face off with the WCW Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian. Danielson and London make quite the formidable duo in this exchange, hammering away at Edge and Christian, clearly surprising them.

They back the tag champs against the ropes and continues to nail shot after shot… UNTIL KURT ANGLE GRABS LONDON FROM BEHIND BY THE HAIR… AND HURLS HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #7: PAUL LONDON BY KURT ANGLE!

It’s another example of factions and the numbers game paying off as Angle saves his friends. Unfortunately for Danielson, now he’s on his own and whilst he swings and lands a shot on Angle, it isn’t long before all three men are all over him. In the middle ring, Kaientai are all together, standing guard and taking their time brutally assaulting Super Calo.

Whilst the rest of the group watch on to ensure no interference, Taka drags Calo back to his feet… MICHINOKU DRIVER!!!

The quartet then all bring the dead weight of Calo back to his feet… KAIENTAI THROW CALO OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #8: SUPER CALO BY CIMA, DICK TOGO, KAZ HAYASHI AND TAKA MICHINOKU!

Kaientai no longer stand guard, breaking their formation to celebrate their first elimination this year. Taka goes extra with his celebration, going around in a big circle, performing the pose he usually does when he’s ready to perform the Michinoku Driver. Taka stupidly continues to do so, turning his back on the rest of the ring… WHEN AJ STYLES RUNS FROM NOWHERE AND DROPKICKS TAKA IN THE BACK!!!

AND THE MOMENTUM SENDS TAKA OVER THE TOP AND OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #9: TAKA MICHINOKU BY AJ STYLES!

Kaientai are furious with the sneaky work from Styles, and they immediately pounce on him. All AJ can really do is drop to his knees and cover up, as the Japanese faction beat the hell out of him. Seeing this assault, Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis and Rey Mysterio run over, and they begin brawling with Kaientai, saving AJ in the process.

On the other side of the ring, after staying separate so far, Kidman and Jericho manage to bump into each other… AND THEY BEGIN LAYING INTO EACH OTHER!!!

Jericho and Kidman brawl like it’s old times, once again reigniting their old rivalry, just like they did on Nitro a few weeks ago. Neither even thinks about eliminating the other, both men just happy to engage in a hockey fight. Back in the first ring, Silver King accidentally staggered into the domain of The Flock, meaning he’s now being brutalised by Bagwell and Steiner.

Having seemingly done enough, Buff and ‘Big Poppa’ Pump’ drag King back to his feet… AND THEY THROW HIM OVER THE TOP AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #10: SILVER KING BY BUFF BAGWELL AND SCOTT STEINER!

With Bagwell and Steiner out of position, there’s a slight gap in The Flock’s formation. Sensing their chance, High Voltage cleverly step around Vader, and charge towards the corner, attacking Raven. This gets a TREMENDOUS reaction from the fans, as High Voltage do a number on the champion.

It isn’t long until Kenny is forced to move away from Raven, landing shots on Saturn to keep him at bay. Unfortunately, on his own, Robbie is no match for Raven, who shrugs Rage off, hits a kick to the gut… FOLLOWED BY THE EVENFLOW!!!

Annoyed at proceedings, Raven roughly drags Rage back up… RAVEN TOSSES RAGE OVER AND OUT WITH DISDAIN!!!

ELIMINATION #11: ROBBIE RAGE BY RAVEN!

Having dealt with that annoyance, the World Champion looks to stealthily backtrack into his corner. Raven returns to a seated position on the middle turnbuckle, but it doesn’t last long, as Kaos breaks free from Saturn and Vader and attacks Raven again with a barrage of punches.

It doesn’t last long though, as Saturn grabs Kaos from behind with a Waist Lock and drags him away from Raven. Surprisingly, instead of inflicting punishment, Saturn just grabs Kaos by the neck… SATURN TOSSES KAOS OUT OF THE MATCH!!!

ELIMINATION #12: KENNY KAOS BY PERRY SATURN!

Much like earlier in the match, in a scary sight for everybody else, The Faces Of Fear continue to coexist with The Flock. Just as Raven settles back into his corner, this time no longer under threat, Meng, The Barbarian and Steiner seemingly get bored of beating up Villano IV. Naturally, they pick him up… AND THE UNLIKELY TRIO ELIMINATES VILLANO IV!!!

ELIMINATION #13: VILLANO IV BY MENG, SCOTT STEINER AND THE BARBARIAN!

As The Flock revert back to standing in front of and protecting Raven, we head to the middle ring. The Hardy Boyz are once again in the spotlight, having intervened in the fight between Kaientai and the babyface Cruiserweights. As Jeff toils away against some of the cruiserweights, Matt catches Juvi bouncing off the ropes… SIDE EFFECT!!!

As Matt gets up and shoots the ‘V1’ signal to a pop from the fans… PSICOSIS CATCHES MATT WITH A BIF SWINGING DDT!!!

The Mexican Luchador jumps back to his feet, favouring his back ever so slightly. Having broken free from Jeff Hardy, CIMA AND DICK TOGO SNEAK FROM BEHIND AND TOSS PSICOSIS OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #14: PSICOSIS BY CIMA AND DICK TOGO!!!

In the third ring, the tag champs, Edge and Christian are in another intense battle, having been separated from Kurt Angle. This time they are up against The Dudley Boyz, who are hammering away at the champs. Not enjoying being beaten up by Bubba, Christian swings wildly with a right hand… No, Bubba ducks… BUBBA BOMB!!!

Garnering some big cheers from the fans, Bubba pulls Christian up by the hair… BUBBA TOSSES CHRISTIAN OVER THE TOP…

NO!!! EDGE PUMMELS BUBBA FROM BEHIND… SAVING HIS TAG PARTNER!!!

D’Von is immediately right back on Edge, and the two teams continue to do battle, no eliminations taking place at this moment. Back in the middle of the ring, The Hardyz are again teaming up in their battle against the Cruiserweights, and this time they’ve manages to isolate CIMA. After overwhelming CIMA with punches, backing him against the ropes… THE HARDYZ LAND A DOUBLE DROPKICK…

SENDING CIMA TUMBLING BACKWARDS, OVER THE TOP AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #15: CIMA BY JEFF HARDY AND MATT HARDY!

Before The Hardyz could recalibrate and turn back towards the action, Storm and Regal attack them from behind. Storm clobbers away at Jeff, whilst Regal is especially vicious, landing some stiff knees to Matt’s face. With both Hardyz slumping to the canvas, REGAL TURNS INTO A DOUBLE HOOK KICK TO THE FACE FROM LOW KI AND TAJIRI!!!

Regal collapses to the canvas as if he’s been shot, whilst Storm sees this and steps up. The Canadian immediately rakes the eyes of Low Ki, before grabbing him AND STORM LOOKS TO THROW KI OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

NO!!! BRYAN DANIELSON HITS A FOREARM TO STORM’S JAW!!!

Storm shakes out the cobwebs and releases Ki, before swinging a hard right hand at Danielson… No! DANIELSON DUCKS AND BACK BODY DROPS STORM OUT TO THE FLOOR!!!

ELIMINATION #16: LANCE STORM BY BRYAN DANIELSON!

Having recovered from earlier, Low Ki is back to his feet, only to lock eyes with Tajiri, who had just finished beating on Regal. Both men lock eyes, cagily circling each other, and the fans begin to buzz in anticipation. The two start throwing hard body kicks at each other, each one causing hard thuds to echo throughout the arena.

Those hard kicks continue, neither backing down, the fans enjoying it… UNTIL JERICHO SHOVES TAJIRI HARD IN THE BACK!!!

TAJIRI STUMBLES FORWARD INTO LOW KI… CAUSING KI TO TUMBLE OVER THE TOP AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #17: LOW KI BY CHRIS JERICHO AND TAJIRI!

Tajiri is stunned, after the inadvertent head knock in the collision with Low Ki. As he staggers, trying to shake it off, he stumbles into the ropes, and Jushin Liger charges over… LIGER NAILS TAJIRI WITH A BIG PALM STRIKE… WHICH SENDS TAJIRI FLYING OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #18: TAJIRI BY JUSHIN LIGER!

Back in the first ring, for the first time in a long time, The Flock are on the defensive. Booker T and Val Venis are fighting them, and they are holding their own, nowhere near an elimination. With Val and Booker gaining momentum on Bagwell and Saturn, Hogan extricates himself from the fight and finds himself all alone. Once he’s alone, Hogan starts flexing and throwing poses, getting major heat from the fans.

Suddenly, Hogan is confronted by El Dandy, who hits a bicep flex of his own. Hogan gets annoyed at the EPIC ovation El Dandy receives, and rakes the eyes… AND HOGAN MANHANDLES DANDY, THROWING HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #19: EL DANDY BY HOLLYWOOD HOGAN!

Hogan goes back to posing, and signals that Dandy is too small, calling him a “VANILLA MIDGET”. Hogan looks to revert back to his posing when he’s shoulder charged by Villano V, backing him into the corner. Villano unloads with rights and lefts to the body, really beating up Hogan. As Villano continues on the attack, Saturn comes from behind and lands a flying knee to the middle of Villano’s back.

Villano stumbles into Hogan, grabbing at his back, when Saturn yanks him from the corner, and whips him towards the centre of the ring… INTO A DOUBLE A SPINEBUSTER FROM HENNIG!!!

This draws the attention of The Four Horsemen, as BENOIT AND FLAIR SPRINT TOWARDS THE FLOCK FOR THE FIRST TIME TONIGHT!!! They charge towards Hennig, but Saturn and Steiner step into the way, intercepting the charging Horsemen. They begin throwing wild right hands at each other, until Benoit and Flair begin gaining the advantage, landing chops to their respective adversaries chests.

The mood picks up with The Horsemen and Flock battle underway. Whilst Flair and Benoit are occupied with some members of The Flock, Hogan and Hennig pick up Villano V… AND THEY EASILY DISPOSE OF HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #20: VILLANO V BY CURT HENNIG AND HOLLYWOOD HOGAN!

In the middle ring, Jericho must feel like he’s back in the Cruiserweight division as Chavo Guerrero is peppering him with right hands. Chavito backs Jericho into the ropes, before taking a few steps back, and Chavo runs at Jericho… THE US CHAMP LOW BRIDGES CHAVO, WHO FALLS OUT TO THE FLOOR TO BE ELIMINATED!!!

ELIMINATION #21: CHAVO GUERRERO JR. BY CHRIS JERICHO!

With a conniving smirk on his face, Jericho leans over the ropes, waiving goodbye to Chavo. Again, being in Canada, Jericho enjoys the cheers from the crowd, really rubbing it into Chavo… WHEN JERICHO GETS PUSHED OVER THE TOP ROPE FROM BEHIND… BY BILLY KIDMAN!!!

ELIMINATION #22: CHRIS JERICHO BY BILLY KIDMAN!

The Cruiserweight Champion just eliminated the US Champion, but more importantly, Kidman eliminated Jericho! The crowd goes WILD with a mixed reaction, and now it’s Kidman’s turn to smirk and wave at Jericho. The US Champ is FURIOUS on the outside, pounding on the apron in frustration. After Kidman gives Jericho a taste of his own medicine, cockily waving goodbye, Kidman turns back towards the action.

Still infuriated and desperate for revenge, JERICHO LEAPS ONTO THE APRON AND GRABS KIDMAN BY THE HAIR!!!

Jericho pulls Kidman towards him, and synchs in a Front Facelock. JERICHO USES LEVERAGE TO PULL KIDMAN OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE APRON… BEFORE PUSHING HIM DOWN TO THE FLOOR!!!

ELIMINATION #23: BILLY KIDMAN BY CHRIS JERICHO [ALREADY ELIMINATED]!

Before Kidman even knows what has happened or can get to his feet, Jericho is on him on the outside. Jericho grabs a hold of Kidman, and after landing a few right hands… JERICHO RAMS KIDMAN FACE FIRST INTO THE RING POST!!!

A bunch of referees and officials are trying to get Jericho to stop but has well and truly snapped. As Kidman rolls onto his back after his collision with the post, he’s a bloody mess. Like a shark smelling blood, Jericho mounts Kidman and continues to land punch after punch to his skill, letting out all his anger and hatred.

It looks as if Jericho will never stop but finally, a barrage of security run down and they are able to tuck Jericho’s hands behind his back. The furious Jericho still tries to kick at Kidman, but security is able to slowly carry him to the back and up the ramp. With Jericho cleared from the area, medics now run down to check on the Cruiserweight champion, but the action hasn’t stopped inside the rings either.

In the third ring, the Disco Inferno stupidly tried to take on The Dudleyz, only to get decimated. After toying with their feet, the brothers send Disco to the ropes, and when he comes back… 3D!!! The Dudleyz pick Disco right back up… THE DUDLEYZ THROW DISCO OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #24: DISCO INFERNO BY BUBBA RAY DUDLEY AND D’VON DUDLEY!

Getting a nice ovation from the fans, The Dudleyz do their custom high five into a fist bump, enjoying the moment. It doesn’t last long though as when Bubba turns away from D’Von… BUBBA TURNS RIGHT INTO A SPEAR FROM EDGE!!!

As Edge gets up, D’Von looks to attack him in revenge, but D’Von gets mauled from other angles by Christian and Kurt Angle. Edge joins in to and the trio just rock D’Von with multiple shots… AND THEN EDGE, CHRISTIAN AND ANGLE THROW D’VON OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #25: D’VON DUDLEY BY CHRISTIAN, EDGE AND KURT ANGLE!

Surprisingly, considering how braggadocious the trio usually are, there is no wasted time to celebrate their work. Instead, all three of them work together to heave Bubba up, who is still clearly favouring his ribs. They all grab a hold of him… AND TEAM ECK THROW BUBBA OUT AS WELL!!!

ELIMINATION #26: BUBBA RAY DUDLEY BY CHRISTIAN, EDGE AND KURT ANGLE!

Back in the middle ring, the two men who will battle at Starrcade for the TV Title are finally locking horns. Regal and D’Lo trade punches in the centre of the ring… UNTIL THEY ARE BOTH ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED BY THE ONE SPEAR FROM GOLDBERG!!!

The fans mark out for the carnage, as The Berg gets back up and sticks his tongue out. He then focuses in on D’Lo, who got the worst of the Spear. Goldberg drags D’Lo up… AND GOLDBERG THROWS D’LO OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #27: D’LO BROWN BY GOLDBERG!

Now that he’s finally doing something worthwhile, nobody wants to intervene and go near Goldberg. One of the favourites to win the entire match now drags Regal up and gets him in position… JACKHAMMER!!!

Regal might as well be fodder at this point, as Goldberg hastily brings him back to his feet… GOLDBERG TOSSES REGAL TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #28: WILLIAM REGAL BY GOLDBERG!

After eliminating Regal, Goldberg spits like only he can, before scanning the ring. He identifies his next target and sprints across the ring… GOLDBERG CLOTHESLINE AJ STYLES OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #29: AJ STYLES BY GOLDBERG!

Dick Togo and Kaz Hayashi just kind of watch in awe, as Goldberg does what they couldn’t despite their numbers advantage, and that’s eliminate AJ. Feeling like they have no choice, Togo and Hayashi attack Goldberg from behind, but GOLDBERG NO SELLS THEIR SHOTS!!!

The last remaining Kaientai members freak out, realising there in trouble, as Goldberg grabs them and begins throwing them around at will. With Goldberg’s focus on his Japanese opponents, Scott Steiner sneaks from behind and attacks him. The two hated rivals finally have contact and after his sneak attack, Steiner has the advantage.

In the first ring, the brawl between The Flock and The Horsemen continues, although now Dean Malenko and Jamie Noble are involved as well. After being brutalised by Malenko, Bagwell looks to stagger away, leaning against the ropes for support… WHEN BOBBY WALKER RUNS OVER AND DROPKICKS BAGWELL… SENDING HIM FALLING OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #30: BUFF BAGWELL BY BOBBY WALKER!

Bagwell and everybody else are in complete shock, and even Walker is surprised. He celebrates like crazy, jumping in the air and punching his fists, until he gets caught by Vader… CHOKESLAM!!!

The jobber sensation had a nice run, but now the monster Vader rips Walker to his feet… VADER THROWS WALKER OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #31: BOBBY WALKER BY VADER!

In the middle ring, the never ending battle of the Cruiserweights is continuing, but now Steiner intervenes. ‘Big Poppa’ Pump’ grabs Juventud Guerrero by the hair, but Juvi shrugs himself free, and bounces off the ropes for momentum. Juvi runs and jumps at Steiner… No… STEINER CATCHES JUVI… BELLY TO BELLY OVERHEAD SUPLEX SENDS JUVI FLYING OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #32: JUVENTUD GUERRERA BY SCOTT STEINER!

After taking care of Juvi, Steiner stomps over and rips Hayashi away from whatever fight he was involved in… STEINER THROWS HAYASHI OVER AND OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #33: KAZ HAYASHI BY SCOTT STEINER!

This time Steiner drops to the canvas and starts delivering some push ups, enjoying the moment. Once Steiner is back up, he gets approached by La Parka, who swings wildly at him. As this is happening, Goldberg enters the middle ring to join the fray. Steiner sees and grabs a hold of La Parka, lifting him in the air… STEINER THROWS LA PARKA AT GOLDBERG!!!

BUT THE BERG CATCHES HIM!!!

As Goldberg has La Parka in his arms, Steiner jogs around him and exits the middle ring, entering the first ring where the rest of his Flock buddies are. Meanwhile, with La Parka in his arms, Goldberg sort of shrugs, and then explodes, hoisting La Parka up into a Military Press position… GOLDBERG THROWS LA PARKA OVER THE TOP AND TO THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!!

ELIMINATION #34: LA PARKA BY GOLDBERG!

Goldberg only has one thing on his mind though, as he quickly leaves the middle ring, and heads back to the first ring, where Steiner is. On the other side of the middle ring, The Hardy Boyz have been putting in the work on Mysterio and now holding him on one side each… THE HARDYZ TOSS OUT REY MYSTERIO!!!

ELIMINATION #35: REY MYSTERIO BY JEFF HARDY AND MATT HARDY!

After eliminating Rey, The Hardyz head towards the centre of the ring, where they meet their archrivals, Edge and Christian. We don’t get a preview of Starrcade’s tag title match though, because Kurt Angle is also involved here. Despite Matt and Jeff giving their best efforts, it’s a three on two so they start falling to the numbers game, which ironically has been one of their strengths so far tonight.

The three on two goes on, until Booker T and Val Venis approach the situation. Knowing that Booker and Val have eyes only for him, much like earlier tonight, Angle freaks out and removes himself from the escalation point. With the numbers evened up, The Hardy Boyz drop Christian and then unload on Edge, backing him to the ropes. The Hardyz take a few steps back to build some momentum, as they link hands… DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE SENDS EDGE FLYING OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #36: EDGE BY JEFF HARDY AND MATT HARDY!

Getting back to his feet, red faced and angry, Christian lets out a roar and sprints at The Hardyz… THE HARDYZ SIDESTEP CHRISTIAN AND USE HIS MOMENTUM TO SEND HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE…

LANDING ON EDGE IN THE PROCESS!!!

ELIMINATION #37: CHRISTIAN BY JEFF HARDY AND MATT HARDY!

Back in the first ring, DDP and Hennig are now engaged in a hatred fuelled brawl. They continue to go at it big time, whilst Raven remains guarded in the corner. The Flock are looking especially strong with Meng and The Barbarian having decided to coexist with them once again. On another side of the ring, a struggling Jushin Liger is using the ropes to pull himself to his feet… SO HOGAN SNEAKS FROM BEHIND AND TOSSES LIGER OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #38: JUSHIN LIGER BY HOLLYWOOD HOGAN!

There are twenty two men still left in this thing, but suddenly it’s like this thing EXPLODES. A huge brawl includes all three rings with everybody going at it and fighting for survival. During this brawl, Dick Togo and Bryan Danielson pair off, and Togo lands a vicious Headbutt to gain the advantage. As Danielson stumbles backwards, Togo runs at him… DANIELSON LOW BRIDGES TOGO, ELIMINATING HIM!!!

ELIMINATION #39: DICK TOGO BY BRYAN DANIELSON!

The Faces of Fear and The Flock work together still, severely outnumbering and beating down The Four Horsemen. With Malenko, Noble and Benoit remaining in trouble, The Barbarian manhandles Flair, dragging him towards the corner of the ring. The Barbarian wraps both hands around the throat of Flair… AND BARBARIAN PUSHES HARD WITH HIS CHOKE GRIP… TRYING TO TIP FLAIR OVER THE TOP!!!

NO!!! HOGAN AND HENNIG SNEAK FROM BEHIND AND THROW OUT THE BARBARIAN!!!

ELIMINATION #40: THE BARBARIAN BY CURT HENNIG AND HOLLYWOOD HOGAN!

Final 20: Booker T, Bryan Danielson, Chris Benoit, Curt Hennig, Dean Malenko, Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, Hollywood Hogan, Jamie Noble, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Matt Hardy, Meng Perry Saturn, Raven, Ric Flair, Scott Norton, Scott Steiner, Vader and Val Venis

There’s a shift at the elimination of The Barbarian, as it’s almost like all the competitors realise they are down to the home stretch. Suddenly, The Four Horsemen as well as others begin to gang up on The Flock and Vader, and the action starts getting really hectic. Different faces pair off with the individual members of The Flock, with Booker T dragging Hennig away from the chaos.

Backing Hennig in the corner, Booker T lights his chest up with chops. Wanting to inflict more damage, Booker pulls down Hennig’s singlet straps to reveal more skin, and hits some more chops… UNTIL KURT ANGLE COMES FROM BEHIND AND THROWS BOOKER OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #41: BOOKER T BY KURT ANGLE!

On another side of the ring, NORTON AND VADER START DOING BATTLE AGAIN!!! The arena turns to a fever pitch as the two behemoths stand and trade massive clubbing forearms and chops, each harder than the previous. Each shot is causing the sweat to sling off both men’s bodies, and neither looks set to take a backwards step… UNTIL GOLDBERG RUNS THROUGH BOTH OF THEM WITH A DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE!!!

Vader is quick to get to his feet, albeit a little off balance, and Noble runs at Vader, landing a Dropkick! Vader staggers but leans against the ropes, without tipping over, whilst our commentary team talk about how this is a callback, because this is how Noble got the shock elimination of Vader last year. Vader isn’t eliminated but he’s still in trouble, as Noble unloads with punches and kicks, until Noble gets clobbered from behind by Raven.

The WCW Champion momentarily leaves his safety corner, landing a few shots, but he immediately begins backtracking. A recovered Noble is furious and begins stalking Raven… BUT VADER GRABS NOBLE FROM BEHIND AND HURLS HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #42: JAMIE NOBLE BY VADER!

One man who has been desperate at getting at The Flock since they betrayed The Barbarian is a wide eyes Meng. The wild man has been swinging at everybody, taking them down with brutal throat thrusts at will. Meng incredibly holds his own against Hennig, Hogan and Saturn, before grabbing a hold of Saturn… MENG THROWS SATURN OUT OF THE RING AND OUT OF THE MATCH!!!

ELIMINATION #43: PERRY SATURN BY MENG!

Meng turns to face the other two Flock members that he has been beating up, and he grabs Hennig, but then Hogan sneaks up and rakes the eyes. The sole face of fear remaining drops Hennig and rubs at his eyes, attempting to regain his site. After sharing a look, HENNIG AND HOGAN GRAB MENG… AND THEY ARE ABLE TO THROW HIM OUT TOGETHER!!!

ELIMINATION #44: MENG BY CURT HENNIG AND HOLLYWOOD HOGAN!

After scoring such a momentous elimination, Hogan is happy with himself and begins performing bodybuilding poses once again. The fans boo loudly as Hogan continues, even pointing at Bret Hart in the front row and mocking him. The Canadian treasure just rolls his eyes, as Hogan keeps with the hotdogging, UNTIL BENOIT RUNS OVER… AND THROWS HOGAN OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #45: HOLLYWOOD HOGAN BY CHRIS BENOIT!

The remainder of The Flock look to attack Benoit after that elimination, but Malenko is right by Benoit’s side. Malenko and Benoit do really well, beginning to dominate, and they surprisingly get some more help in the name of this years surprise packet in Bryan Danielson.

As the battle continues inside of the ring, outside of the ring an equally exhausted and frustrated Hogan works back to his feet. Conveniently, he has been eliminated right in front of the retired wrestler he was previously mocking in Bret Hart. Bret humorously stands up and sarcastically applauds Hogan, which gets the arena shaking.

Shaking his head in disgust, HOGAN SHOVES BRET IN THE CHEST!!!

Bret looks down at his chest, smirking… AND THEN BRET JUMPS THE GUARD RAIL AND ATTACKS HOGAN!!!

WE’VE GOT A HOGAN AND BRET BRAWL OUTSIDE OF THE RING!!!

Hogan is tired and Bret has the quickness advantage, hammering away, UNTIL OFFICIALS SWARM AND START TO BREAK THE TWO UP!!!

The fans boo the peacemakers as both men get dragged to the back. Meanwhile, inside of the ring, Venis has finally managed to get his hands on the man who cost him the US Title in Angle. Val backs Angle up against the ropes and then charges at him… LEFT ARM CLOTHESLINE FROM VAL SENDS ANGLE OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #46: KURT ANGLE BY VAL VENIS!

This elimination gets a nice cheer due to the emotion behind it. The former porn star shows that emotion, pointing at Angle and shooting some choice words his way even after the elimination. Angle is furious on the outside, but Venis lets his emotions get the best of him… AND DDP IS ABLE TO SNEAK FROM BEHIND AND THROW VENIS OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #47: VAL VENIS BY DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE!

Val hurries to his feet, annoyed and he is confronted by an irritated Kurt Angle, and we’ve got ANOTHER brawl on the outside. This one doesn’t require security surprisingly, as Angle and Val do battle, punching themselves up the ramp and through the curtain. As these two disappear through the curtain, inside one of the rings, The Hardy Boyz have started to get involved with The Flock.

Using their tag team expertise, they manage to isolate the powerful Scott Steiner. The Hardyz grab an arm each and whip Steiner into the corner of the ring. Matt runs to just in front of Steiner and gets on his hands and knees. Jeff runs, then uses Matt as a springboard… POETRY IN MOTION!!!

As Jeff recovers from his awkward landing, Steiner holds the top rope and tries to make his way out of the corner… GOLDBERG RUNS THROUGH STEINER WITH A CLOTHESLINE OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #48: SCOTT STEINER BY GOLDBERG!

For the first time tonight, The Berg shows some positive emotion. This isn’t normal for him, but he smirks at Steiner being down, but he allows himself to be grabbed from behind… VADER THROWS GOLDBERG OUT RIGHT NEXT TO STEINER!!!

ELIMINATION #49: GOLDBERG BY VADER!

Goldberg bounces right back to his feet and is desperate to get back in the ring, but referees and officials stop him. Inside of the ring, Vader poses and rubs it in Goldberg’s face, asking “WHO’S THE MAN”! Getting heat from the fans and frustration from The Berg, Vader gets a little to close to the ropes… AND GOLDBERG GRABS THE ARM OF VADER AND BEGINS PULLING VADER!!!

Vader tries to dig his heels in, but Goldberg shows incredible strength, managing to get Vader’s arm over the top rope. Goldberg continues to pull… AND THEN NORTON COMES FROM BEHIND AND PUSHES VADER THE REST OF THE WAY OVER!!!

ELIMINATION #50: VADER BY SCOTT NORTON!

The crowd goes apeshit but showing incredible athleticism, Vader is right back to his feet. He ignores Goldberg and Steiner on the outside, and slides right back in. VADER SPRINTS ACROSS THE RING AND TACKLES NORTON!!!

We’ve got the Vader and Norton fight again, both men swinging haymakers. They continue to brawl, and then it turns into a hockey fight, and both men start jostling for position. The power of both men causes them to lose balance together, and whilst maintain a clinch of sorts… THEY BOTH TUMBLE OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE MID FIGHT!!!

ELIMINATION #51: SCOTT NORTON BY VADER[ALREADY ELIMINATED]!

Norton and Vader both get right back up, right in the vicinity of Steiner and Goldberg. Much like earlier, ALL FOUR MEN BEGIN BRAWLING WITH EACH OTHER!!!

Alignment doesn’t matter right now, this is just four tough men who don’t like each other, and they’re all happy to get a shot in on any of the other three. It’s a wild brawl on the floor, as they all crash into the crowd barricade and continue to fight. It isn’t long BEFORE EVEN MORE OFFICIALS AND SECURITY RUN DOWN AND HAVE THEIR HANDS FULL TRYING TO SEPARATE THESE FOUR MEN!!!

The heat from the crowd is endless, as they chant “LET THEM FIGHT”! All four men are desperate to get at the others, but with about half the country of Canada, they are able to FINALLY get these men to the back. With all the drama outside the rings, we need to head back inside of one, where The Hardyz continue their recent plan of going after The Flock.

This time the brothers have managed to double team Curt Hennig, ending WITH MATT NAILING HENNIG WITH THE TWIST OF FATE!!!

It’s a Battle Royal but Jeff Hardy doesn’t care about strategy damn it. The rainbow hair coloured freak climbs up to the top rope, living in the moment and whatever… SWANTOM BOMB CONNECTS ON HENNIG!!!

Matt watches on in delight… ONLY FOR RAVEN TO SNEAK FROM BEHIND AND TOSS MATT OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #52: MATT HARDY BY RAVEN!

With a viciousness not often seen by Raven, he grabs Jeff by the hair. Jeff doesn’t offer much resistance, still trying to recover from the Swanton Bomb… SO RAVEN DROPS JEFF WITH THE EVENFLOW!!!

Raven is right back up and preparing to eliminate Jeff, when Raven gets swarmed by the remaining Horsemen. Malenko, Benoit and Flair all start the beating the hell out of Raven. The fans love it, as the champion is finally getting his comeuppance. Meanwhile, as they move away from the fallen Jeff Hardy, Bryan Danielson walks over to Jeff.

With a shrug of his shoulders, Danielson hoists the dead weight of Jeff back up… AND DANIELSON DISCARDS JEFF OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #53: JEFF HARDY BY BRYAN DANIELSON!

This gets a mixed reaction from the crowd, and Danielson almost shrugs sheepishly, wondering what he’s supposed to do in that situation. Unfortunately he takes a little long questioning his morality AND TURNS RIGHT INTO A DIAMOND CUTTER!!!

Being the veteran that he is, DDP doesn’t waste time, as he picks Danielson up… AND DDP SENDS DANIELSON OVER AND OUT!!!

ELIMINATION #54: BRYAN DANIELSON BY DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE!

Right after that elimination, DDP turns and notices Hennig leaning against the ropes on the opposite side of the ring. DDP runs across… DDP CLOTHESLINES HENNIG OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #55: CURT HENNIG BY DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE!

We’re down to the final five now and for the first time tonight, Raven is at a severe numbers disadvantage. We’ve got Raven, we’ve got DDP and then we’ve still got THREE members of The Horsemen in Benoit, Flair and Malenko. Arguably the greatest tag team champions of the last ten years, Benoit and Malenko decide to relive their tag days, isolating Raven and having their way with him.

Benoit and Malenko are brutal, with Raven struggling to get in any offense. On the other side of the ring, Flair and DDP go back and forth, trading chops like their lives depend on it. Back to the other side and Benoit and Malenko are in control, as Raven starts to beg off. Shaking his head, refusing to show mercy, standing over Raven… BUT RAVEN GRABS BENOIT BY THE WAIST BAND OF HIS TIGHTS AND PULLS BENOIT INTO MALENKO!!!

The two Horsemen have a clash of heads, and whilst Benoit crashes to the canvas, Malenko remains standing, albeit stunned. Raven senses an opportunity and scrambles to his feet… RAVEN GRABS MALENKO AND THROWS HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

ELIMINATION #56: DEAN MALENKO BY RAVEN!

Final Four: Chris Benoit, Diamond Dallas Page, Rave, Ric Flair

Benoit recovers just to see Malenko recovering on the outside, and Benoit is furious. Suddenly, Benoit locks eyes with Raven and Raven gulps with fear, trying to scurry away. Benoit follows Raven around the ring, and Raven even grabs DDP by the shoulders, trying to manoeuvre him to block Benoit’s path.

DDP is a bit confused and just turns and nails Raven with a right hand… BUT A FURIOUS BENOIT GRABS DDP AND HURLS HIM OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

ELIMINATION #57: DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE BY CHRIS BENOIT!

Raven’s expression changes to one of downright horror, as he sits on his ass in despair. He realises that he’s now alone in the ring with two Horsemen. Despite not always being on the best of terms, Benoit and Flair exchange a glance, noticing the situation they’re in and they nod. They both approach Raven from opposite sides, and Raven tries to run away but Benoit catches him with a chop.

Raven grabs at his chest and staggers away, into a chop from Flair. The two continue to just light up Raven’s chest severely, until Benoit winds up for a killer chop… No, Raven ducks and gets a go behind… RAVEN PUSHES BENOIT FROM BEHIND… SENDING HIM CRASHING INTO FLAIR THIS TIME!!!

Flair falls over from the momentum, whilst Benoit tries to shake out the cobwebs, remaining on his feet. Raven gets a grip on Benoit’s head and neck… EVENFLOW!!!

NO!!! BENOIT EXPLODES AND LIFTS RAVEN OFF HIS FEET!!!

Benoit almost has Raven halfway over for a Northern Lights Suplex but instead charges across the ring… AND BENOIT DUMPS RAVEN OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!

AND ONTO THE RING APRON!!!

Gritting his teeth, BENOIT GRABS A HOLD OF RAVEN, TRYING TO PUSH HIM OFF THE APRON…

AS RAVEN HOLDS ONTO THE TOP ROPE FOR DEAR LIFE!!!

Benoit is almost leaning over the top rope himself now, looking for severe leverage to push Raven off the apron. The struggle continues… WHEN FLAIR GETS A LOW BLOW ON BENOIT FROM BEHIND!!!

Gasps come from the audience who are in absolute shock. Flair’s the dirtiest player in the game for a reason and he shows it there. Flair then grabs Benoit in his precarious position… AND FLAIR THROWS BENOIT UP AND OUT!!!

But in leaning over the top rope to edge Benoit OUT, Flair has allowed Raven to grab his head… AND RAVEN PULLS FLAIR OVER THE TOP ROPE AND TO THE OUTSIDE!!!

BOTH MENS FEET HIT AT THE SAME TIME!!!

ELIMINATION #58: CHRIS BENOIT BY RIC FLAIR!

ELIMINATION #59: RIC FLAIR BY RAVEN!

WINNER: RAVEN VIA ELIMINATION at 31:25.

There is almost like a stunned hush throughout the arena, as an exhausted Raven lies on the apron for a moment. The WCW World Heavyweight Champion then rolls to the middle of the ring, making sure he’s out of arms reach from any of the Horsemen.

Eventually, Raven gets to his feet and is given the World Title, and he celebrates it. He stands on top of the world, even with the angry Canadian crowd beginning to throw bucket loads of trash in the ring.

On the outside, Benoit remains down after the low blow, whilst a furious Flair stomps his way up the ramp.

The real story here though is that Raven just won an epic match that he wasn’t even supposed to be a part of.

Tony Schiavone:
I – I’m speechless. What the hell does this mean for Starrcade? What does it mean if the WCW Champion won World War Three? And damn it, more importantly, how much longer can we wait? Where is Sting?

Ending the show on a sour note, amongst the heat from the fans, Raven stands tall. He performs the ‘Raven Pose’, World Title in his possession, and with his crazy run the last three months, who in the hell can stop this man?

END OF SHOW
