The Rock and CM Punk practiced their Royal Rumble match on Sunday before the pay-per-view. The finish was kept top secret from other talents to the point that they hung a curtain around the ring so nobody could see what they were doing.
Regarding the finish of the match, Punk was pinned after The People’s Elbow because their feud had been built on Punk saying that the people don’t matter and Rock saying they do.
With Rock as WWE Champion, the idea is he will be doing a ton of media to promote several movies over the next two months and can talk about WWE, WrestleMania and being the champion.

Good reason. WWE kept the match secret from superstars as well, good. Also like that Rock will promote WWE.

Re: Why Did Punk Lost To People's Elbow?

Isn't the People's Elbow also his finisher? So it kind of makes sense.

Wow, why did Rock win with his finisher? That just blows my mind that he didn't win with a hip toss.

The curtain thing is interesting if it even happened.

He couldn't have done that without the belt? Or built a feud on these talk shows etc having the rock be all like yeah I lost but at WM and then punk live or via recording jump on and say he's nothing but an actor? Doing this actually building a match while on the circuit would have been soo much better.

I never saw the issue with the actual finish of the match. I think the false finish was unecessary - I'd have had Rock just kick out of Punk's pin and pick up from there - but I was fine with the comeback and People's Elbow finish.

Punk would have looked like a complete chump if Rock was allowed to kick out of the GTS then he has to lose moments later to the People's Elbow.

Peoples Elbow is an iconic move just like Hogans leg drop, what is GTS? It's no better, just a knee to the face....

Punk's fans would of cried no matter how he lost or when he lost it.

You're the MMA guy here, you should support stiff moves like the GTS.

Fair enough if it was a stiff brute like Lesnar doing it, but Punk has the build of a teenage female swimmer and barely connects it.

egarding the finish of the match, Punk was pinned after The People’s Elbow because their feud had been built on Punk saying that the people don’t matter and Rock saying they do.

Or you know, because it's his finishing move, and the move that won the majority of his big matches in his career.... :argh:

Simple answer to the topic title: Because it's Rock's fucking finishing move. If it was good enough for Austin, it's good enough for Punk.

This is a stupid argument.

Rock's peoples elbow is the most over move in wrestling.

and I'm an MMA guy myself and I don't think the GTS is a legit move, shit is like the Canadian Destroyer, mark move that takes both guys to cooperate or it doesn't work.

Try beat somebody with the GTS on the street and tell me what happens.

I'm pretty sure if someone actually HITS the GTS, it would fuck some shit up. If I remember correctly, the first time he did it, he broke Snitskys nose with it.

Same argument to you, try beating someone on the street with a pussy move like the "People's Elbow."
