WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is in Boston, MA for the 2012 WWE Night of Champions PPV. With Jerry Lawler obviously not released from the hospital and ready to return to his announcing duties, it could be that Ross is being called to fill in for Lawler.
We'll see Sunday evening.

It is the logical choice to have JR take Lawler's place on the broadcast. They can go with Cole, Matthews and JR calling the show. There isn't really anyone else I can see filling in for Lawler at this short notice unless they manage to convince JBL or Foley to go on the road again.

JR filling in for Lawler. Shit isn't right.

It's like having John Cena vs. Kane and Undertaker filling in for Kane.

This should be good. Jim Ross always makes even the worst matches sound amazing via his commentary and this is something which WWE have lacked since he took time away from the commentary table. I have always said that it should remain as Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler simply because they are likely the greatest commentators of all time and Michael Cole isn't good at all. It'll be interesting to see how JR and Cole work together. Obviously JR will outshine Cole.

Michael Cole is not a bad commentator by any means. He is the 2nd best behind Jim Ross. His style is hated because he is play-by-play whereas guys like Punk, JBL, Lawler and JR have the liberty of being colour commentators and in JR's case, both.

At such short notice JR is the only right choice to take over and I expect him to do a good job. Long term will be interesting through, guess it might just be Matthews and Cole until the King returns.

I think for the one night on PPV it is the right move but long term it should be someone else. Someone that WWE can mould into a long term colour commentator.

JR is a legend of course but i think the novelty of JR returning as wore off, For me anyway. He was great in his heyday but I would rather see Joey Styles at commentary...Doubt it would work with him and Cole though. I'm guessing they will bring Matthews in and say everything is resolved with Booker.

This makes perfect sense to me... King and JR are great friends and this is a good way to honor the position with someone Jerry would want to be there (not that Matthews does a bad job, I actually kinda like him).... Also could help with them trying to turn Cole back to face or neutral or whatever, JR comes out and Cole says it's an honor to have him there

JR has been shot to bits for years and the Lawler love will be nauseating.

Josh Matthews is far, far better.

I'm all for having JR back, but the WWE really needs some new blood on commentary. By new blood, I mean
non-heart attack risking. I never want to see what happened to Lawler happen on TV again.

Mad respect for all the legends of colour commentating, but in the words of Triple H, "It's time."

SWERVE

- Late last night, PWInsider reported that WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was in Boston for tonight's Night of Champions pay-per-view. They didn't confirm this but speculated that Ross was there to replace Jerry Lawler on commentary.

F4Wonline.com reported early this morning that former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield had been contacted by WWE and they reached an agreement for him to work commentary for Night of Champions and tomorrow's RAW.

Dave Meltzer then speculated that this could be JBL coming back for more than just two appearances. For what it's worth, JBL is set to go to Africa in a week to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro for his Seven Summits campaign.

As much as I love JR, Cole and JBL would be much better calling this PPV.

This works better cause neither JR or Cole are color commentators though Cole could pull it off more than JR can.
