Avengers Endgame (2019)

Well @Just Kevin I finally watched it...& it was okay.

I honestly just can't stand films with time travel plots...
and the MCU had avoided it for the most part...until now.

I mean I knew they were going to undo what Thanos did...
but I was hoping for something more...interesting than
time travel.

I actually had my own theory as to how they would reverse
"The Snap" but I won't get into that here.

As far as what I liked...well...
~ Hawkeye, Ant-Man & Nebula getting plenty of screen time...
~ Captain Marvel hardly getting any screen time...
~ Hobo/Big Lebowski Thor...
~ Thor duel wielding Stormbreaker & Mjolnir...
~ Seeing The Black Order/Children of Thanos again...
especially Ebony Maw...love that guy!
~ Thanos dying twice...both are great death scenes...

But the best moment of the film has to be...




because of course Captain America is worthy...
Goddamn that moment makes the film for me.

Honestly...despite many great moments & time travel
related call backs...(Black Widow's butt still looked
incredible...was that Scarlett or a body double?) I just
don't like time travel in my movies...and I still think
Infinity War is the better film.

Although I'm glad this film is the #1 all time box office
king now...because Avatar sucked (you all know it did)
& James Cameron is lazy.

Watched "Ma"...

I didn't like it... I thought it was boring. Poorly thought out, not suspenseful at all.. it was just a movie that happened, nothing more.

I had thought about renting this to check it out myself. The previews looked interesting... But to each their own rating. Will check it out to see what I think.

Watched the live action version of The Lion King..

I have to say that it wasn't terrible.. did it lack some of the flair and quirkiness that only hand drawn animation could provide? Yes, of course it did.

The voice actors did ok.. they did their best to recreate a once in a lifetime classic... and they failed... but they only just barely failed.. the movie is still completely watchable and even enjoyable if you try your best to forget the animated film.

The CGI was very good though.. that was a definite plus for the film.

Two for the Seesaw (1962) Jerry Ryan (Robert Mitchum) is a lawyer from Nebraska who divorced his wife Tess and has moved to New York to start a new life. He meets Gittel Moscawitz (Shirley MaClaine ) a dancer who works odd jobs to make ends meet. They're worlds apart but they start dating and the relationship becomes serious. Jerry seems reticent to take the NY Bar Exam and doesn't want bring up his divorce. Something is holding him back.

Shirley MaClaine has the street girl, New York slang down pat. While movies during the time were shot in color, Two for the Seesaw was entirely in black and white.

"Focus" starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie

I actually like this movie a lot.. I think Will Smith shines in these sort of roles.. Margot Robbie is smoking hot. Great plot twist ending.

Blade II (2002)

So...I decided to follow up Blade with its sequel...& for me its both better & worse
than the original. The flaws are pretty much there for everyone to see...with the
two main issues being the MASSIVE retcon that opens the film surrounding Whistler
& the downright wooden acting of Leonar Varela as Nyssa Damaskinos.

Everything else is pretty solid to good with Luke Goss being the main highlight
for me as the "Reaper Strain Carrier" Jared Nomak who gets some truly great
"Berzerker" moments over the course of the film.

Of course having Ron Perlman, Norman Reedus & Kris Kristofferson in the
supporting cast helps immensely...but then Leonar Varela always seems
to appear at the worst possible time & makes me feel like I'm watching
The Room...and that is never a good thing.

The "Reaper Strain" itself is kind of weird...especially when it appears that once
you're bitten you turn into a skinny, bald man who looks like a young Monty Burns
from the Simpsons who is addicted to meth.

The Reapers never attacked/bit any female vampires?

Also why do the Reapers act more like insects than actual vampires?

Why do they seem to have a "Nest" in the sewers?

Why am I making a big deal about this?

No idea...it just seems strange to me...

Of course this film was directed by Guillermo Del Toro...which means it has a rich
use of color, is well shot & has some great practical effects...BUT...its not Del Toro
at his very best.

Also Blade hits a stalling vertical suplex during a henchman fight scene...and Jared Nomak
hits a stupid but awesome flying elbow drop on Blade during the final one on one battle.

Both moments did make me smile...

Crime reporter Waldo Lydecker (Clifton Webb) was infatuated with Laura but she's engaged to Shelby Carpenter. It's a murder of passion. If he can't have her then no one can. Mark McPherson has very little to go on as the culprit has cleaned his tracks is always one step ahead of this gumshoe.

Child's Play (1988)

You know its funny...this film is actually a lot "cornier" than I
remembered it...especially the ending apartment scene...
which goes from tense & violent...to complete looney tunes
stupidity.

I have to imagine Brad Dourif was having an absolute blast
in the recording booth when performing his lines for Chucky
& while its not perfect...this film does have a certain "charm"
to it you don't find in films today.

Of course sequel after sequel would follow...and even a remake...
which I will possibly discuss at a later date.

All Alone With a Stranger is a ridiculous story with some 1-dimensional characters and some corny af lines in there.

Having said that, I enjoyed it. The female villain (who is hot) had some dimension with a backstory but they didn't elaborate on it. William Moses playing both the male lead and the male villain does a great job with the awful script that has been given to him (long lost twin wanting to steal his successful brother's identity is the best summary of the plot). The kid actor gave a good performance. Oh and one of the final scenes involved the "confused person has a gun and is trying to figure out which twin is the evil one to shoot" trope.

Nothing special, but a good palette cleanser after watching a competitive game of footy. 6/10
