What separates Reigns from the other big guys?

Yeah I don't see him flopping either. It'll still be cool to see him pushed, I just don't understand all the hype.

When was the last time we saw a guy with the true star potential to break the upper-reaches of the WWE mainevent? Not like Punk or Bryan as secondary players but a true Wrestlemania maineventer? He's got that in him to be something fresh in the scene which is a pretty big reason for his hype IMO. Plus he's shown he can play the intense powerhouse role very well whilst maintaining a decent match quality (check the FCW matches I posted they're not clinics but he showed a decent workrate there). When was the last time we had a destructive mainevent babyface who could do that? Ryback tried but was a bust due to his matches being unstomachable. It's just something fresh which is what most have been clamouring for a while now.

I agree he has that star quality, but you don't get ridiculously high up the card on that alone, and if you do, you don't stay there. You can't just use a one off like Goldberg as your example either.

I don't see it as fresh either. It has potential but at the moment it is literally unknown potential. Sure, two decent FCW matches, but there's been a couple bad ones in NXT I've seen. I'm not even a ring worker fan so it doesn't bother me, I'm just saying it's another important quality in your wrestling career that he doesn't have yet. Mic skills? Nope. I just think a future Wrestlemania maineventer based on look is the exact overrated hype I'm talking about, but that's just my opinion.

I just don't see that at all. People compare him to Rock because of his heritage, but Rock always had that star charisma.

The charisma? By that I meant Rock's like literal character. The jokes, funny faces, eyebrow, just genuine quality in terms of entertainment. I've not seen any of that yet from Reigns.

not exactly his character but aight. Rock as Rocky Maivia certainly didn't look like the future of the company when he debuted in late 96 and throughout most of 97 before he joined the NOD

I dunno. I guess we just differ about this. I hope I'm wrong as it desperately needs a new main event guy, but I can already foresee the hate he's going to get if he does get this monster push. I don't think you'll all be creaming in your pants 5 months into it if no notable improvement occurs.

I can't predict the future just digging everything I see from him for now and hoping for the best moving forward. I see the potential in him to be an all time great so I'm excited to see him develop.

I can see him being the next Brock Lesner maybe. But then again I am not one for saying "the next _name_" because I think in this day and age, wrestlers want to be themselves and make it, not be a cheap rip-off of a wrestler in the past.

Yep I do, it's more than look it's an aura. It carried Cena through his bad years in mid to late 05 - around 09 when his charisma was zapped by the restrictive gimmick but his ring work was below par and carried Batista along for the majority of his run (he became decent in ring around his match with Taker in 07 and built from there but he was never technically good at anything.) Of course you get high on star quality it's what engages the audience (people already pay attention to him and already seem to care judging by the reactions he gets, he just connects with people) it was also the reason it took so many years of pushing for Orton to get over properly also he didn't have the natural ability so had to adapt greatly to be able to make the audience care. Roman Reigns is Batista apart from Roman being further along in his development, compare Batista in Evolution to Roman in the Shield they both draw attention to them in very similar ways and seem to be following a similar arc even towards the same time of year. I've been wrong on these predictions before so I could be again but if I had to lay money down on who the franchise player of the Shield will be it's Roman.

I'd also put the same money on Reigns, but only because of who WWE traditionally push. I dunno. I think Cena then showed he had the charisma to make characters work. I really hope we see it from Reigns but I just don't see anything else yet other than his look/aura. I made the thread to find out what else he may have as I have admittedly missed a few RAW's lately - or skipped a large majority of the shows - so I'm not sure if he's rapidly improved in a specific area. I know he's better on the mic than he used to be, so that gives me hope that in a year or two he might be one of the better mic workers. Your comparison with Batista is spot on actually. I think he'll be a main event player due to WWE booking, but I do not see him leading the franchise. That's just my opinion anyway. I hope I'm wrong as we need a change and he seems a cool dude outside the ring and wants to get better in it, and his spear has so much shock value.

You say Cena's gimmick was restricted, and it was, but you knew he had it in him to be entertaining as a solo competitor. Shield have been entertaining as a group for a number of reasons: Ambrose's mic work, Rollins' (and Ambrose's) selling ability, Rollins' wrestling ability, Reigns' power & spear; they just collectively work as a group. Being a solo competitor really means you need to bring all those skills together on your own. The more I'm discussing it though the more excited I am to watch it unfold.

Yeah Brock was unnaturally quick for his size. They should really scout out NCAA All Americans though before they move into MMA some of the bigger guys are scary with their speed and power.
