WCW's GOAT, THE FINAL ROUND

It all comes down to Sting vs. Flair! Sting's path to glory was paved through hard fought victories, most notably against his arch nemesis of Vader. Flair's path too was a long and bumpy one, knocking out contenders like DDP and Steamboat is earlier arounds before being forced to face and defeat his stable mate, The Enforcer, Arn Anderson to get here. Now it all comes down to this last incredible duel and if you're a WCW fan at all, you saw this ending coming! Sting vs. Flair, The Scorpion Deathlock vs. The Figure Four, California Cool vs. The Wheeling, Dealing, Jet Flyin', Limo Ridin' Son of a Gun, nWo Wolfac vs. The Four Horsemen, THE ICON vs. THE MAN! With 20+ world title reigns in WCW between them, both were staples in the promotion, but only one was The Greatest WCW Superstar of All-Time!

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with Sting on this one, WCW tried and true... never left, stuck with the promotion til the end! Flair sold out and left to WWE and took one of the WCW title belts with him and showed it off on WWE TV back then, I mean how insulting. He went where the money was at the time and Sting stayed true to who got him there.

I wouldn't really go as far as saying Flair "sold out" when he left for the WWF. The story is that he had a falling out with Jim Herd (not a shock) and refused to character changes such as being renamed Spartacus and shaving his head. He was also asked to take a substantial pay cut, something that he didn't want to do. Finally, he was fired from WCW, he never left on his own accord.

Oh and yeah, I'm voting for Flair.

Sting is my choice. He was WCW. He stuck with it through thick and thin, providing countless moments. When you think of WCW, the first name is Sting. He never went to the company that bought out WCW. That's how loyal he was. He's the heart and soul and the greatest of all time

Again, I really don't understand why people are using Flair's leaving WCW against him when it wasn't his decision. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm voting for Sting... because as GREAT as Flair is... when somebody talks to me about WCW the first name to pop up is Sting's. Flair name is the first to pop up when they talk to me about wrestling in general. But since this is a WCW thing... is the Stinger for me.

STING!!!

Sting wasn't called the "Franchise of WCW" for nothing. No one exudes WCW more than Sting. This is a man who remained relevant to WCW in their entire 12+ year run. Unlike a lot of the other men to make it this far in the tournament like Vader and Arn Anderson, he was still a big player when WCW hit the big time with Nitro and PPV. On top of that he actually managed to reinvent himself to become an even bigger deal when WCW was at it's absolute top. Sting never left WCW unless he had to nor did he ever go WCW's main rival, WWF/E. Not even after WCW closed it's door. This is a man who bled WCW through and through.

For this and his entire body of fantastic matches in the span of WCW, I think of him first and foremost when I think of WCW.

He is WCW's GOAT.

Truth be told though Flair may be THE GOAT in general.

I don't necessarily hold the leaving to WWF against Flair, but it is certainly in Sting's favor hat he never ONCE stepped foot on WWF/E territory.

By this are you implying that Sting's matches were better than Flair's? If you remove the Flair matches from Sting's overall body of work, you're left with a series of stellar performances against Vader (a lot of credit has to be given to Vader there), a great match against Muta in 1989 and another against Cactus Jack in 1992. I can't think of a single Sting match (that didn't also involve Flair) after 1995 that I'd call fantastic. By contrast, if you take away Flair's matches with Sting, you still have all his work with Steamboat, Luger and Funk. Add to that the fact that Flair was the only guy to get something good out of both Hogan (1994) and Savage (1996) and was capable of putting on a stellar match with Benoit in 1999 (I think it was on an episode of Thunder), the body of work pretty much speaks for itself.

I don't really have a problem with Sting winning this mind you, I just don't like the fact that Brandon is pretty much the only person who didn't rely on the "he sold out" excuse. Again, I know I may be beating a dead horse here, but its not exactly like leaving WCW was Flair's choice.

If I was relying on workrate alone, I'd definitely have to give the edge to Flair. Which is why I even said Falir may be THE GOAT. Although I think you're too hard on Sting post 1994 and WCW in general. The main stuff I see get praise is pre-Nitro stuff. Which is fine but when I think of WCW, I think of Nitro. Flair had a few great matches once WCW debuted Nitro but his career mainly went down while Sting took off like fireworks.

Just the way I see it.

The thing is, with Herd in charge, Flair probably wasn't sure he wouldn't have been fired even if he did do what was asked. It's pretty much known across the board that Herd was a total moron. Still, I can see how Flair kind of maneuvered himself into a position to be fired.
