WCW THUNDER

Date: Wednesday, Week 1, February 2001 (taped Monday, Week 1, February 2001)
Location: Pershing Auditorium; Lincoln, Nebraska
Attendance: 4,026
TV Rating: 0.18

Starting the night off, Ernest “The Cat” Miller defeats Crowbar in a back and forth match. While Crowbar finds himself bickering with fans, Miller channels their support to make a big comeback and get the win with The Feliner. (D)

We go to commercial and come back, and we see Crowbar and Daffney arguing in the back about yet another loss for Crowbar. Crowbar is fed up and tells Daffney to not even show up next week. (D-)

We then pivot to a promo by Totally Buffed who say that they really have Goldberg on the ropes now that Animal has joined in on their cause. Vito and Johnny the Bull, aka The Mamalukes walk up to them. Vito says Lex and Buff must think they’re roul tough guys. After some back and forth, the two teams agree to meet in the ring later. (B-)

The Cruiserweight Champion is in action next, as Chavo Guerrero defeats Lenny Lane with a brainbuster. This is a one-off appearance for Lenny, who gave Chavo a good fight but ultimately loses clean. (D+)

Next we find Bill DeMott and Corporal Cajun in the back. Cajun is talking about how Misfits In Action has fizzled out and wonders if DeMott is forgetting about them. DeMott says there is no “them”, and it’s time to move on. Shane Douglas walks up to the two of them and says that’s clearly some friction. He suggests that next week on Nitro, DeMott and Corporal Cajun have a singles match and he’ll even let the winner get a shot at his United States Championship! (C)

In a continuation of the long standing cruiserweight tag team rivalry, Shane Helms defeats Kaz Hayashi with the Vertebreaker. (C-)

We get a lengthy video package, where the recently returned Booker T talks about being put out by Steiner and suffering a shoulder injury that he has been working relentlessly to recover from. We see footage of Booker being checked on by physicians, and working in the gym to get back in shape. Booker says he’s back now and his goal is to reach the top of WCW once again. (B)

In the main event of the evening, Totally Buffed defeats The Mamalukes after a 10 minute battle. Big Vito looked pretty good for his team, but Luger and Bagwell are too big and too experienced to succumb to The Mamalukes. Ultimately Johnny the Bull taps out to the Torture Rack. (C-)
