Marc Mero is arguably the most important person in wrestling history lol. Him going to WWE and being the first person getting a guaranteed deal helped usher in guarantees for everyone else in WWE, and his going to WWE led to the cruisers being the opening match.
The cruisers we’re gonna get that spot regardless, cause it was part of his plan to differentiate nitro from raw, but I always wondered why he left because he was treated pretty well all things considered and all jokes aside that cause I like to poke fun of him, knowing that Barry likes him so much but he goes over to the F and basically they do nothing with him over there.

Starrcade 1997 was the first domino. But they were still excellent programming. It didn't really get bad til 99.
Even that really only botched the finish of that pay-per-view but outside of that they were actually more popular than ever in 98. Thunder itself actually was getting ratings that were higher than 97 nitros. By I think August 98 they were doing 4.5 for even thunder. Yeah unfortunately they put Nash in the book and as much as I love Nash as a performer his creative was fucking atrocious and 99 did not survive him.

Money most likely. And I think he peaked in WCW already.

Tbh I believe he was offered more money because Vince *wanted* the Johnny B. Badd character but then didn't even use it once he got Mero. Mero would have been an excellent midcarder in the Attitude Era had he not suffered his debilitating injury and shit booking.

yeah the Main Event of Starrcade I should have said, my bad. That was the first real misstep, allowing Sting to show up to the PPV without a tan.

Eh, even then Starrcade 97 was kind of a bad show even in spite of the numbers it did

To be fair, Sable on Nitro wouldn't have been as good. Also I doubt we'd have gotten Sable in Playboy if she was in WCW.

Vince is a particular man and once he gets a particular perspective on you it never really goes away and with Vince once he saw how much more popular Sable was than him basically thought Mero was nothing or nobody, and I don’t think that was ever gonna change regardless of his injury, unfortunately.
