I think they did it that way because they kinda have to trick Hogan into doing what they need him to do because he has ultimate creative control and if he knew that he was gonna lose the belt even by disqualification, he probably would’ve nixed it, but once the match is over with, he can’t control the storyline he only controls his matches.

He was still the champion in his eyes in your scenario, therefore he has control over the situation. If you make the DQ thing known beforehand, announce Giant as the winner at the PPV, then announce on Nitro that due to holding up the title thing the next night it becomes more understandable.

Hogan agreed to the original finish because he was not aware that the belt was changing hands. If you make the DQ thing known ahead of time he can nix it.

As far as like the actual disqualification, if that’s what you’re referring to, they did announce that at the pay-per-view we knew that the giant won by disqualification we were talking about it last week in the chat.

I don’t know if this is reliable or not because I’ve never heard this version of the story. I’ve only ever actually heard Turner himself actually say that he just didn’t like the word foreign and didn’t want it to appear on his television. specially, considering Eric was consistently having to fight with his immediate superiors. He was pretty well-versed on what he was and was not allowed to do.

Kevin Sullivan has talked at great lengths about all the mental gymnastics you have to do when working with Hogan in the main event. Which is why 90% of the times he loses they get really convoluted.

Hogan doesn’t have to approve losing the title in a non-match though. I don’t know what the actual conversation was with him after Halloween havoc but once the match has already taken place, they don’t need his permission anymore to take the belt off of him.

if he had control over his character, he would then have control over whether he was champion or not. It wasn't just wins and losses.

He wasn’t the booker of WCW. His creative control clause was effectively specifically about whether or not he won his matches or not and what happened in his matches.

Russo would ultimately do this years later when Hogan refused to drop to Booker t and he would strip him of the belt after giving him his creatively controlled match win where he got to beat Jeff Jarrett.

This situation was very clearly booked stupidly, but they didn’t do that for no reason this is what they had to do when you’re trying to work with Hulk Hogan and he has a ridiculously stupid creative control clause situation.
