The studio is developing an animated Scooby-Doo feature film, returning to the franchise that produced a pair of live-action/animated hybrid films a decade ago. The project has been set up with Atlas Entertainment with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle producing.

Roven and Suckle also produced 2002′s “Scooby-Doo†for Warner Bros., mixing live action actors with the titular Great Dane, which was computer-generated, along with “Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed†two years later. The first film generated $275 million worldwide, and the second followed with $180 million.

The studio has tapped Matt Lieberman to write the script for the new project. Warner Bros. is keeping the logline under wraps.

Jesse Ehrman is overeseeing “Scooby-Doo†for Warners.

The original animated TV series “Scooby-Doo: Where Are You?†was created by Hanna-Barbera and first aired in 1969.

Roven’s recent credits include Warner tentpoles “Man of Steel†and “The Dark Knight Rises.†He’s also a producer on David O. Russell’s upcoming “American Hustle†for Sony.

Lieberman recently finished an untitled project for Paramount Animation, as well as “Short Circuit†for Dimension with Tim Hill set to direct.

Lieberman just sold his spec “12/24†to Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures, based on an original idea from David Guggenheim with Madhouse Entertainment and Guggenheim producing. He also sold the spec “The Pet†to Disney with Scott Rudin producing and Jared Hess set to direct and wrote Disney’s “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride†with Peter Candeland to direct as well as “Evil Genius†for the studio with Andrew Gunn producing.

Lieberman was previously in the Disney Writers Program. He’s repped by WME, Madhouse Entertainment and attorney Melissa Rogal.

Yes a fully animated Scooby is good news.
