Russo clarifies the filter myth

When McMahon says “Vince Russo is someone who had bad ideas and I made them good ideas” on the MNW documentary, Russo could literally sue the company and win.

You know how much money Kevin Fiege and Marvel Studios would lose if Fiege said “The Russo Brothers were a team who had bad ideas and I made them good”

I'd be interested in seeing that documentary, feel free to provide me a link. Usually people who shit on Russos bad ideas and say he needed a filter point out TNA and WCW. Objectively speaking though he did improve ratings for both companies, so he's a great business man whether or not people enjoyed his creative input. I admit though making David Arquette champion was a pretty dumb idea. But was that all Russos fault?

Arquette as champion was smart, it landed them on USA Today.

The titles are fake, they’re supposed to be used as props for storylines to draw viewers.

So someone like Benoit winning it actually devalues the belt, because he doesn’t draw. Arquette draws therefore the belt is used for its original intent.

Smart? It has aged poorly and thats never a good thing. Poor creative decisions did make an impact on the collapse of the company.

In your opinion, objectively it got them on USA Today and therefore worked, therefore a brilliant creative decision, niche not liking it is irrelevant

Bruce Prichard had some interesting things to say about Russo. Russo was known for writing a lot of guys promos. I wouldn't be surprised if he had written some of Vals. They were very well written and overall just solid comedy. Venis, Godfather and Goldust were great characters. He didn't have much criticism of him at least in this video other than his idea for the Brawl for all concept. That didn't really work and it dragged on for too long. Didn't know HBK wanted to beat Russos ass too.

iirc it also ended Dr Deaths career whom they had just spent a fair amount of money on. The dark side of the ring on this is quite good.

I don't know too much about Dr Deaths run in WWF. But it was weird that Bart Gunn won the Brawl and there was no payoff for him. Literally had a stand off with Ken Shamrock or something and left the company immediately after.

If Vince Russo saw eye to eye with Stephanie I wonder what kind of impact he'd have on the ruthless aggression era.

There wouldn’t have been a ruthless aggression era. He would’ve stuck to pop culture and in ring focused product would’ve been out of touch.

Late 90’s/Early 2000’s was TRL, Tom Green, Teen Comedy/American pie, with hints of reality TV

Mid 2002-2005 we transitioned into Reality TV 24/7 with Pro American values with music becoming more adult.(For example Attitude era you had NSYNC, Justin/Britney teenagers making music for families, now Justin solo and Britney are adult orientated making songs for adults.)

So it would’ve been Attitude era part 2.

Undoubtedly Brock Lesnar and all these midcarders that apparently work rate marks to this day said they were better than the midcarders of the attitude era, would've been given better direction by either Russo or Kreski. Mark Jindrak, Lance Cade, Matt Morgan and many others weren't given characters in the Ruthless aggression era. Rarely did you see even a jobber not have a skit or a character in 99.

Smarks painted this picture that outside of main event the Attitude era sucked, and listed 1999 PPV matches as an example, claiming RA era had better midcard due to matches because we were fresh off or in that era

Now since the Network came out many can see the undercard actually were having better matches on TV than the main eventers in 1999 and everyone was over.

No one is taken seriously when they say anything about the Attitude era midcard and no one is taken serious anymore when they claim the ruthless aggression era in any way single way or area was better than the Attitude era.

Thats thanks to the network making it accessible when it hardly was beforehand.

Edit: Brock Lesnar would never have been a main eventer either as he couldn’t talk.
