A girl who claims to drink up to 12 tablespoons of petrol every day is set to appear on a US reality show in a bid to cure her dangerous addiction.
The 20-year-old, known only as Shannon, has been filmed by the show My Strange Addiction drinking petrol from a red plastic canister.
"It tastes like sweet and sour, or like a tangy sauce," she says in a promo clip from the episode, which aired Sunday night US time.
"It tingles at first, it burns the back of my throat. Even though it hurts me, it makes me feel good."
Shannon claims to have drunk nearly 19 litres of the dangerous fluid last year alone.
"When I first found out Shannon drinks gasoline, I didn't believe it," her mother told the show.
"But when I smelt it on her breath, it was more or less confirmed."
According to the NSW Poisons Information Centre at Westmead Children's Hospital, petrol is listed as a poison.
Drinking petrol can cause burns, vomiting, diarrhea, and even drowsiness and death in larger quantities
