Former WWE star Umaga hospitalized Edward Fatu, 36, is hospitalized in Houston and in what was described as life threatening condition by a long-time friend.

Details are sketchy at this point but he apparently fell asleep last night while watching television, and several hours later, his wife found him not breathing with blood coming out of his nose and he was rushed to the hospital.

There have been reports making their way among the wrestlers that Fatu has died and/or is brain dead but sources close to Anoia family will only confirm that he is hospitalized at this time.

A WWE source, when contacted, noted that the company was aware of the situation and that it was a "grave situation."

Ken Anderson wrote on Twitter this afternoon, "Say a prayer for my boy Umaga."

Bobby Lashley just also tweeted, Very sad day today. A good friend is gone. http://bit.ly/6c9idw

There were reports this afternoon that Umaga had died from prescription pills. We can't confirm that.

As of this writing, Umaga has been hospitalized and from what we can tell, is fighting for his life.

Not good news :(

here is all that i have read on WrestlingInc

Former WWE star Umaga hospitalized Edward Fatu, 36, is hospitalized in Houston and in what was described as life threatening condition by a long-time friend.

Details are sketchy at this point but he apparently fell asleep last night while watching television, and several hours later, his wife found him not breathing with blood coming out of his nose and he was rushed to the hospital.

As noted earlier, former WWE Intercontinental champion and one-time Wrestlemania headliner Eddie "Umaga" Fatu is hospitalized in a ICU unit in Houston, Texas.

There have been reports making their way among the wrestlers that Fatu has died and/or is brain dead but sources close to Anoia family will only confirm that he is hospitalized at this time.

There were reports this afternoon that Umaga had died from prescription pills. We can't confirm that.

As of this writing, Umaga has been hospitalized and from what we can tell, is fighting for his life.

Several wrestlers have posted messages on Twitter regarding the hospitalization and rumored death of former WWE superstar Eddie "Umaga" Fatu. Here's what some of them are saying:

Ken "Mr. Kennedy" Anderson: "Say a prayer for my boy Umaga"

D'Angelo Dinero / Elijah Burke: "Pope was informed many hours ago of my friend Umaga. Pope will not comment until the family speaks, neither should you. Prayer is key! ~ PHS"

Bobby Lashley: "Very sad day today. A good friend is gone."

I hope everything is going to be alright. I always thought Umaga had the talent to hold a World Title in WWE but I dont think we will ever get to see that now.

Its a shame though. I mean overdose? No matter how much pain iam in i would not overdose. Especially if i had a wife and kid. Which i do so i would never do it.

It's not just a one time overdose it's prolonged usage. If someone abuses pills after a while they build up a tolerance so it takes more pills to achieve the same effect. Which makes it that much more difficult to determine how many is too many? In addition prolonged abuse also damages the heart so even if say he took 6 pills one day and was fine doesn't mean he won't be able to take 6 pills another day and be fine again.

In any event this sucks assballs. How many more are gonna die or end up in grave condition before they pass 40?

Its the wrestling landing stuff that causes most pain. When i trained to wrestle it hurt when taking a bump. These guys do it all of the time. I know i could not handle all of that pain on a regular basis.

I just think it's stupid for people like Lashley to jump the gun. From what I understand he's not dead yet and there's always a chance he'll recover but people take the first thing they hear and run with it. Lashley can't be to good of friends with him if he doesn't even know he's just in the hospital not the morge...

This sucks, Umaga's awesome, hopefully he somehow gets better.

This actually sounds like it could be Swine Flu, it would suck if it was too.

Small update

Source: The Wrestling Observer
In an update on the condition of Edward "Eddie" Fatu (a.k.a. "Umaga") — who is presently hospitalized in an ICU unit in Houston, Texas — the former WWE performer has been taken off life support as we noted earlier here on the website.

"He is off life support and not in a good way. It appears to be just a matter of time at this point.", said one source.

As noted earlier, his family was told to fly into town as quickly as possible. Family members have been told they believe he suffered a heart attack.

While details remain sketchy at this point, he apparently fell asleep last night while watching television, and several hours later, his wife found him not breathing with blood coming out of his nose. He was then rushed to the hospital.

Fatu, who lives in nearby Spring, Texas, wrestled under a number of names including Ekmo, Jamal and most notably Umaga. He had just returned a few days ago from a wrestling tour overseas.

If this is drugs I can't lay this one at WWE's feet. He was released because he refused to seek treatment for his problems.

Now if again, it is drugs that makes him a fucking idiot. I feel badly for his family but not for him.
