Heavyweight Sean McCorkle has been released from his UFC contract, the fighter confirmed with MMA Fighting on Friday.

The news was first reported by Five Ounces of Pain.

McCorkle (10-2) enjoyed a successful UFC debut in September, submitting Mark Hunt in just 67 seconds. However, things went downhill for the 34-year-old after that.

Thanks to some clever Internet marketing, McCorkle helped propel himself all the way to the co-main event of UFC 124 against Stefan Struve in just his second fight for the organization. Unfortunately for "Big Sexy," Struve defeated him via first-round TKO.

McCorkle then lost to Christian Morecraft via second-round submission at UFC Fight Night 24 last month.

When asked for a comment, McCorkle wrote via text message:

"I want to thank the UFC for giving me an opportunity that I had not earned, giving me very favorable match-ups, and hyping me far more than my talent warranted."

He then quickly added:

"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought was writing a statement for Matt Mitrione."

Nice to see McCorkle's sense of humor is still very much in tact.

It is a bit of a surprise that he has been released so soon since he was 9-0 before UFC and is 1-2 in the UFC. The UFC heavyweight division has plenty of top contenders and they need guys to face when they drop out of contention. However Strikeforce is packed full of heavyweights so maybe UFC is looking to the future when they can bring in some of those Strikeforce fighters.

Strikeforce may be the place to go. Not the top tier HW's, but the reserves in the Tourny maybe, like Shane Del Rosario, Chad Griggs, etc. I'm not surprised personally. Christian Morecraft was pretty much dominating him and that guy isn't even a guy that impresses me or others. He has a big mouth though, which is good for promoting, and that would be the only reason I'm surprised he lost.

He was nothing but a troll at UG and his 9-0 record was suspect, just got exposed as nothing but a bullshit artist like Frank Dux and I don't want him in Strikeforce, he could go to Bamma or Sharkfights for all I care. Bellator wouldn't even be stupid enough to pick this clown up.
