Wouldn't that piss Dana off and possibly lose him a title fight? I can't see him being too keen on him praising a strikeforce guy tbh.

Nah, Nate is already getting the title shot.Plus Zuffa owns SF and could bring over Gilbert any time they wanted. It makes no fucking sense to me why they are allowing my man El Nino to waste away over there with no competition personally.

Zuffa already merged the SF HW division into the UFC and brought over a few other SF guys, namely Nick Diaz.

Thanks for clearing that up, only have a limited knowledge of the sport. Surprising they haven't brought him over tbh, unless they're trying to engineer a fight between the two over the belt. Although they're really good friends so I doubt it would happen.

Nate would never fight Gil. Cesar Gracie fighters are all really close.

It's fucking stupid that Frankie Edgar is getting an immediate rematch with Bendo when there is a log jam of contenders at LW. A unification fight between Bendo and Gil would have been awesome.. then you have Nate who is next in line but has to wait until after a September fight between Edgar/Henderson (so Nate likely won't fight again until early 2013), Anthony Pettis who has a win on his record of Henderson, Maynard is still around, and Gil in SF.

It's pathetic that they leave Gil to rot away in SF when they sapped it of most of the other legitimate talents they had, including a great HW division. They just need to close it down at this point and bring over anyone worth keep around to the UFC. It's not like they don't have enough cards, they would all find fights.

Only thing that would suck is the women's division is okay.. <3 Ronda Rousey

I didn't get that plug joke for that Gil guy. :((

I thought he was going to say Nick.

Gilbert Melendez is the other guy in my sig with Nate. He fights for Strikeforce, which is owned by Zuffa which also owns the UFC. Gilbert trains at the same gym as the Diaz's, Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

goddamn, I hadn't noticed how STONED El Nino looked in that pic. He can barely open his eyes lmao. Must be why Nate is wearing glasses in the club

Gilbert has been the SF champ since 06 . 20-2 record. I'm sure they spar/roll all the time, so if Nate says he is better I would be inclined to believe him. He also says Nick is the best fighter in the world though, he likes to pump up his camp.

Gilbert is legit though, no doubt about it. I would put he and Nate in the top 5 LWs in the world. A lot of people question Gil's level of competition that he's fought, but whatevs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_Melendez

He fights in a couple of weeks in a rubber match against Josh Thompson.

I love Cesar Gracie fighters

Appreciate the info. I don't know much about Gracie fighters, only know about the diaz brothers, lol. But they seem pretty tight which is cool. Is Gracie a worldwide known trainer? Is he known to be like one of the best?

Royce Gracie is an icon from the early days when it was operated in a tournament style, mainly because his submission and ground game in general was incredible. He used to fight and beat much larger guys so the whole Gracie BJJ family of trainers is really well known.

Cesar Gracie JJ is one of the better camps/gyms in all of MMA IMO. He only has a handful of pro fighters training there (Diaz, Diaz, Gilbert, Jake Shields) but it's like a brotherhood, and they work as hard as anyone. The Gracie family is the first family of MMA. The first badass of MMA was Royce Gracie, and they basically brought Jiu jitsu into the mainstream.

Basically if you want to be trained by a top of the line BJJ instructor, it has to be from a Gracie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gracie_family

This article listed Ceser Graccie JJ as the #3 camp, which considering the lack of fighters compared to other camps is quite impressive http://voices.yahoo.com/top-5-fight-camps-mma-11095510.html?cat=9

It's pretty much inevitable that he will be in the UFC one day. After this next SF card there will be no more HW division, and it will pretty much die a slow, painful death. They just need to kill it off already. There are only a handful of top guys left, with Gilbert heading that list.
