HOUSTON – Frankie Edgar, Joe Lauzon, Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia each earned $75,000 fight-night bonuses for their performances at Saturday's UFC 136 event.
Edgar earned the night's "Knockout of the Night" award, Lauzon picked up the "Submission of the Night" bonus, and Phan and Garcia took home "Fight of the Night" honors.
MmaJunkie.com learned of the bonus winners and award amounts at UFC 136's post-fight press conference.
UFC 136 took place at Houston's Toyota Center. The night's main card aired on pay-per-view, and Facebook and Spike TV carried portions of the preliminary card.
Edgar earned his award by rallying from a 10-8 deficit in the night's main event. The UFC lightweight champion rallied back to win the next two rounds and then scored a TKO victory in the fourth. The come-from-behind win resulted in his second successful title defense, and it avenged the only loss (and draw) of his career, which both came to Maynard.
Lauzon picked up his bonus with a shocking 47-second victory over 4-to-1 favorite and top lightweight contender Melvin Guillard. Lauzon cracked the striker with a quick left, followed him to the mat, and got the tap-out from the rear-naked choke.
In a long-awaited rematch, Phan and Garcia put on a barnburner. But unlike the first meeting, Phan wasn't stuck with a bum decision. Thanks to his crisp striking and solid head and footwork, he scored a unanimous-decision victory via 29-28 scores across the board. The crowd-pleasing fight brought the Toyota Center crowd to its feet.
