Ufc-117-poster.jpg

Official fight card

Main card
Middleweight Championship bout: Anderson Silva (c) vs. Chael Sonnen
Welterweight bout: Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves
Lightweight bout: Clay Guida vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida
Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs. Junior dos Santos

Preliminary card
Welterweight bout: Dustin Hazelett vs. Rick Story
Light Heavyweight bout: Phil Davis vs. Rodney Wallace
Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetsch vs. Todd Brown
Welterweight bout: Johny Hendricks vs. Charlie Brenneman
Heavyweight bout: Stefan Struve vs. Christian Morecraft
Welterweight bout: Ben Saunders vs. Dennis Hallman

Silva finally fights again and he should really win this fight quite easily. Hopefully he puts in a better effort than his recent fights which have been quite dull. Roy Nelson vs Junior Dos Santos is the fight I am most looking forward to. It is to determine the number one contender to the heavyweight title and I will be cheering on Nelson, would be a great story if he faces Lesnar. A ripped giant vs a fat guy for the title.

Oh my god, Chael Sonnen talks so much crap it's incredible. He thinks he can back it up but he's not fast enough to talk Anderson Silva down, the only person that did that was Hendo and Chael can't even beat him. This is going to be a fun PPV, and it's the stacked card, so I can't wait.

I hate people that are that cocky, you can be confident but seriously you are facing Anderson Silva who in UFC has proved to be unbeatable. To be honest I had never heard about Sonnen before this fight, I didn't even realise he was the number one contender. It is a stacked card and should produce some good fights.

That's the same thing with Anderson, in the UFC 117 preview video, he said "First of all, Who is Chael Sonnen?" Lol.

I understand that Chael Sonnen has great wrestling and some great GnP, but first of all, he has to get Anderson to the ground. I think he'll be waaaaay too slow for Anderson, and Anderson will just counter attack him. I hope Anderson doesn't joke and dance though, because he's threatened to be cut even if he is the champion and best P4P fighter in the world. Plus, if Anderson wins, his next opponent is Vitor Belfort, who has, and was claimed to have the fastest hands in MMA. Fast hands vs. Fast Movement sounds fun to me. Also, Vitor is a very legitimate threat to Anderson.

Lol, ouch that must have hurt Sonnen's ego.

Anderson will be too fast for him, barely anyone can get him to the ground and I don't see this guy being able to do it. I am kind of glad Dana made the threat to cut Silva if he had a boring fight since he has had some shockers lately, even if he is the best fighter in the world he needs to be entertaining.

The Belfort vs Silva fight will be awesome. It has been delayed three times already because of injuries to the two guys and I can't wait to see them face each other. Like you said Vitor is a legitimate threat.

Press Conference (Pre Fight) was on today, I watched it on UFC.com.

Dana confirms winner of Fitch/Alves will get winner of GSP/Kos

Chael talks more shit and tells Ed Soares to translate what Anderson REALLY says, beacuse he's not the only guy that speaks Portuguese. Anderson is wearing pink, calls Chael a loser.

In the photo op, Chael raises fists into fighting position (What they're supposed to do, just like weigh-in's) Anderson stands and stares at Chael. Then in the picture side by side, well, see for yourself

I think Anderson is Very pissed now.

I like the touch of Sonnen telling Ed Soares that he isn't the only one who can speak Portuguese and to translate what he actually says. It seems as if Sonnen has gotten into the head of Anderson Silva and this will hopefully produce a more aggressive Silva rather than the Silva we have seen recently. Should be a cracking fight with some actually hatred involved.

There's a lot to say. Like, there's a lot to fucking say about this.

1. Big Country can survive JDS. Other then the knees and punches to that huge belly, BC stayed alive. I'd like to see him vs. Carwin. Decent fight, other then Nelson getting tooled.

2. Fitch raped Alves, plain a simple. For some reason, I liked that fight and its def a fight of the night nom IMO, prob won't win. Impressive, but it's just another guy for GSP to rape, don't think Fitch will be too much trouble for GSP.

3. Guida again losing the 1st round then coming back and winning. Good for him.

4. Matt Hughes will awesome submission. Respect for him.

5. Anderson Silva defeats Chael Sonnen. Chael Sonnen wins 4/5 rounds, easily. Un-fucking-believable. Chael backed up his words, and fucked with Anderson. Tooled him for five rounds, made him look like Nate Marquardt. Suddenly, Anderson gets a Triangle Choke along with an Armbar, or a Kneebar, not sure, and wins the damn fight.

Wow.

This is what I have to say, it will be controversial.

I think Anderson is still the best fighter in the world. To win in time of need like that is incredible, and the way he did it.

There were times where I seriously, seriously thought this fight was rigged somehow. I look back at Carwin/Lesnar, and look at this, and I can't believe it.

MAJOR respect for Chael Sonnen. Expect a rematch, definitely. What a fucking fight, he is a great fighter.

Claim what you want, but Anderson WON the fight. As long as he keeps winning, and retains his belt, he's the best P4P fighter. Note, he took so many fucking shots from Chael Sonnen. So many.

What I think is, Anderson could've won that fight earlier. His ribs were indeed hurt, because he was looking weird at the UFC Gym workouts. He could've won earlier, once again, and he wanted to repay us with an awesome win like that. Anderson is definitely one of my favorite fighters, but I'm hoping for Vitor Belfort to strip him of the belt.

Also, for being dominated for 4 rounds, wtf?

What an awesome dude IMO.

I have read great things about this fight. Sonnen really took it to Silva and even took him down to the mat which shocked me. Silva is still so good that he was able to pull out a submission from his back in the fifth round. Great condition and great skill, have to respect the guy for winning here. Sonnen did a great thing for his career here, he will get a lot more high profile fights now.

Nelson losing disappointed me but hopefully he can come back.

Stefan Struve, the tall skinny Dutchman, won again. Has to be my new favourite fighter.

That was a crazy fight, I got to say. Sonnen was dominatin for 4 rounds, it looked like it was over for Anderson. I got to admit, it was impressive to make Sonnen tap out like that. Anderson is a great Champion, and he really fought his way out of a hole there.

I think Nelson will return in good note against maybe Carwin or Gonzaga, because honestly, I think he can defeat them.

Struve is the man. He's kind of an inconsistent fighter, but he has heart and I respect him.

A fight against Carwin would be good for both fighters to see where they are in the heavyweight rankings. Lesnar faces Velasquez's next I think and then Junior Dos Santos so Carwin and Nelson can fight to determine the next guy in line. Maybe Gonzaga can face Mir.

The thing with Struve is he is only 22 years old so he still has a lot of learning ahead of him and he won't reach his peak for quite a few years. Already has 24 fights under his belt as well so he is gaining experience fast.

Nelson has stated that he has interest fighting Minotauro Nogueria because he said everyone that beats him gets a title shot, which isn't entirely true, but he's an MMA legend nontheless.

I had forgotten about Big Nog, I just read that he has a rematch against Frank Mir scheduled for UFC 119. Good choice for him since that was a surprising lose which no-one had predicted. Maybe Nelson will fight the winner from that match? It would be a big scalp for Nelson if he did beat Big Nog since he is a legend.

That is what I heard, that the winner of Big Nog and Mir gets Nelson. Dana has gradually gotten to like Big Country and he knows that he's good for money-making, because he's fat, and he can take a lot of shots. For MMAfans with less intelligence of the sport, and even MMA fans in general, they want to see striking and seeing a fat guy getting hit, or knocking someone else = entertainment = money = Happy Dana.
