The National Weather Service in gray Maine has issued a Tornado Warning for: East Central Rockingham County in Southern New Hampshire. This includes the cities of: Portsmouth, Exeter, extreme south central York County in Southwest Maine. This includes the city of Kittery.
- Until 4:45 pm EDT.
- At 4:13 pm EDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Exeter. Moving east at 30 mph.
- The Tornado will be near. Greenland and Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge by 4:25 pm EDT. Rye by 4:30 pm EDT. Portsmouth and Kittery by 4:35 pm EDT.
In addition to the tornado, this storm is capable of producing golf ball size hail and destructive straight line winds.
The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.
If in mobile homes or vehicles, evacuate them and get inside a substantial shelter. If no shelter is available, lie flat in the nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10:00 pm EDT Thursday evening for Southwestern Maine and New Hampshire.
