No mentions of Orton vs Cena vs HHH at WM 24? That match was great with a great ending, that has to be top 5

Top 5? Nah, there wasn't much story to it and the ending was a tad bit anti-climactic. It was a solid match, absolutely. But it was especially disappointing because it wasn't really a WrestleMania main-event caliber match. Would have been fun for Backlash, or maybe even Raw.

It was a good match, but i think it was only 13 minutes....that would have likely been #16 on my list.

Cena vs. HHH vs. Orton from WrestleMania was barely entertaining. Just another reason Triple Threats don't belong at Mania. It can never get as much hype as a singles match. I seriously think Jarrett vs. Angle at BFG was better than HBK vs. Y2J at Judgment Day and HHH vs. Hardy at Cyber Sunday. Jarrett vs. Kurt was a wicked crazy match with both men going high flyer which they don't do much. It was awesome. However, that's just my own opinion.

15. Kurt Angle Vs Abyss
14. Matt Hardy Vs Evan Bourne at Cyber Sunday
13. CM Punk Vs Rey Mysterio
12. Undertaker Vs Edge at Wrestlemania
11. Randy Orton Vs Jeff Hardy at Royal Rumble
10. 4-way tag match at BFG
9. Smackdown Scramble
8. Lethal Vs Sonjay ladder match
7. X World Cup Gauntlet
6. Edge Vs Hardy Vs HHH
5. Kurt Angle Vs Jeff Jarrett at BFG
4. AJ Styles Vs Kurt Angle in LMS
3. Ric Flair Vs Shawn Michaels
2. Undertaker Vs Edge HIAC
1. Chris Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels ladder match

I might of missed a couple but yeah, thats a list of some of the matches that were good this year. Btw Montana, you had a good Indy list, 2,3 and 4 were great matches.

I'd be down to compile a top 25 list from the original ECW as long as there is some interest. I'd also try to do write-ups for each match.

That'd be cool.... I think there is a best of ECW thread around here, but you can probably start a new one. Let's try and keep this thread to 2008.

It was no wrestling spectacular - but come on: Ric Flair stands up but his back is still arched, he is spent. His fists are raised not for continued combat, but to demand HBK finish the job. He was emotionally breaking down, brave enough to sacrifice himself for the final finisher. HBK notices, you can see him breaking down as well. Then he says: "I'm sorry ... I love you."

It's a minute or two in wrestling you will never, ever forget. Easily the best match of the year for its emotional status.

THANK YOU!

One of the biggest things that irks me is when people say "I know there was emotion, but the match itself was not anything great." That's the biggest pile of shit ever. Wrestling IS emotion. It's not a sport, it's an art form. When a guy KNOWS his ENTIRE 35-year career is about to end and he stands up and cries, but takes it like a man--that's a story and that's emotion.

That..., and the fact that the match was actually really really good. I can say without a doubt that HBK vs Ric Flair was Flair's best one on one match without any type of gimmick in maybe a decade.

HIAC was really, really good, however, the more I see it, the more I feel it was their TLC all over again. I did like the ending, with Taker getting even at all what Edge did to him.

-Taker speared Edge, just what Edge did to cash in MITB

- He used a camera, just what Edge did at SS.

- A conchairto, what Edge did at the build up for Mania

It was a good match as well for a wrestler whose use-by-date had past, and another wrestler not in the prime of his career and in serious rib pain after the moonsault landing on the announcer's table.

The moment when HBK could not pull the trigger on the SCM, and Flair cunningly counters into the figure four leglock - genius. It was all emotion and story and it typified what the WWE is all about.

Now that I think of it, I don't think I can name 15 good matches from this year, I would be lucky if I could name 5. Especially in TNA.

TNA? Correct, naming 15 would be near impossible.

However 2008 has been an excellent year for the WWE. Jeff Hardy, Edge, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Chris Jericho have all had excellent PPV matches. And you can even find some gems on television matches from Punk, Mysterio, Bourne, and Morrison.

I did enjoy Ortiz vs. Swagger, that caught me off guard. It was sort of a mini rivalry with 2 new superstars, that's what drew me into that match. That match was good stuff. Never underestimate either of those guys. Also the street fight Dreamer vs. Swagger was good too. However, best of the year? I don't think so. They have sentimental value to me.

Am I like the only one who didn't think the UT/Edge cell match was all that hot shit?

I recall watching the PPV and being like, 'this isn't crap, but I expected a lot more from these two.'

Could also be the post-match antics pissed me off. Ruined a perfectly serviceable match with more of Taker's supernatural, nobody buys this shit anymore garbage.
