Yeah, from what I understand, they took the heavyweight and the intercontinental they merged them both, both retired, and then the new belt carries on the spiritual legacy of the two hence why it’s now called the world heavyweight championship. But it’s a brand new belt.Wikipedia is usually a good reference for title histories, usually when shit looks weird on there, I go check and it's bc the company just did some weird shit lol and yeah it has the current IWGP world title as a new one, not just a new design or rename. The original one doesn't have the "world" it's just IWGP Heavyweight and it is retired
This is very true. The funny thing is TNA didn’t even change the design of the belt. They just changed the tape over the original word and kept changing that. You can technically change the name and design but keep the title history, look at what TNA did with the Global/Legends/whatever the fuck they named it lol
So really the point is, have fun with the clusterfuck of wrestling titles and these nerd discussions when we get these every couple years or so bc they're inevitable lol shit never makes sense

Yeah, don’t get me started on how stupid that is. Especially when it’s entirely possible to just revive the original belt like they did with the United States championship in 2003 carries on the original United States championship lineage."Spiritual legacy" is the same shit WWE says about the current WHC and the now retired second cruiserweight title too bc they started new lineages with them but wanted the old belts legacy for the new belts still lol

And never made any sense to me, especially when the original women’s championship was probably their most historic belt they had because it existed I think prior to their heavyweight. Not as bad as what you referenced earlier when they retired the OG women's and tag titles for newer lineages when they unified them in 2010. Why would you do that

Wait, do they? I never noticed that. The tag titles is funny bc the official history recognizes both titles after unification for like 5 more reigns until they finally made new belts, then they just continued the 2002 ones, which are now the new OGs since we have a newer one from 2016
Some of it was before they made one title to represent both. Once they did, it was kinda dumb to have him with the three.Didn't roman do this for like 3 fucking years lol
And tna Kenny too
Wait, do they? I never noticed that.
Yeah, the belts are funny because the both started out in 2002 and 2016 as SmackDown belts because Raw won the tag titles in the first and second brand splits and now the 2002 SmackDown one is the Raw tag title.
They’ll keep every belt, except for the one that has the most history. I was worried for a second they were going to do the same thing with the universal, but thankfully they didn’t.
