Would WMX7 have had that main event if the plan wasn't for Austin to turn heel tho?
Will WrestleMania 6 satisfy you?

I both agree and disagree.

I think NWA needs youth better for its overall card, but typically talent peak later. Wisdom and experience is something they’ll pick up. And fans tend to get more invested the longer they know a talent. That’s why the WWF New Generation bombed so hard. Fans want to see new talent, but familiar faces still draw first.
The reason the New Generation failed is more because it was the same old shit. Same old tired 80s booking, just with different names.

And of course you had Rock vs. Cena twice but the first one was specifically because they'd never actually met in the ring and the second was because they couldn't think of anything better

It’s both. Same reason WCW was still breaking PPV records in 1999 rerunning Hogan and Flair. Age doesn’t bother the average wrestling fan. Until they’re like senior citizens. Then it’s corny.

Even current day WWE. Most headliners are over 32.

That's more "when you're hot you can do no wrong", WCW hadn't been run into the ground yet so there was still hype there. Fast forward to 2000 and Hogan/Flair are still on PPV and it's just embarrassing

Hogan and Flair were still useful as wrestling stars into the mid-2000s. Maybe not against each other specifically.

100%. Hell they even told Austin he could unturn that night if he didn't feel it.

Literally you got the 2 biggest stars in the company they fighting each other at WrestleMania. Don't matter what alignment they are.

Nah anything at that stage with either of them actually wrestling feels embarrassing. Hogan with the ego-stroking when the business had moved on from him, and Ric with how broken down he was

All I can really say is :toyou. I think they both did quite well for themselves in the 2000s all things considered. Ric Flair much moreso than Hulk, though that's mostly because Flair was just always better than Hulk and accepted his role as a midcard gatekeeper, which Hulk would never do.

Yeah, you can’t be cold and expect to draw money, but Hogan’s age had zero to do with them not drawing in 2000. There was a host of other factors.

I mean Rock and Hogan in 2002 is still talked up like one of the greatest Mania matches ever.

Never said it did. The point is more, the old guys were drawing because both companies could draw with a literal turd in the middle of the ring at that time
