I would argue that TNA is still more WCW's successor than AEW ever is or will be. I t was literally all ex WCW guys + the X division
I think it kind of split. TNA was its direct continuation from like a product and fan standpoint. But AEW kind of picked up the look and feel more, especially with the fact that Warner Bros. has gone all in on them.

I think as both Jeff and I know, 2002 TNA is very much "what if Russo just kept going"
Don't forget me, Russo's biggest detractor on this fucking site.

I will always agree with the people that say TNA was the best when they got on Spike from about 2005 to 2009 just before Hogan came in but I love NWA TNA to death. I would’ve have watched TNA Impact if I hadn’t loved NWA TNA so much.

The thing with Russo is he just needs to work with other people that help him come up with ideas and then someone that’s above him to say yes or no. People often point to his worse stuff when he had pretty much full control of creative but then just gloss over the fact that 2007 and 2008 which is generally considered TNA best years ever. He was the guy that was their head writer but he was also working with three other guys and had someone above him to edit when they didn’t like something he suggested, or whatever.

Mid-2009 Russo did become full-on Head of Creative and got Ed Ferrara in as a yes-man, so that may be an explanation for why the show fell off

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I actually thought the end of 2009 was some of Russo‘s best work in TNA. He put the belt on back on AJ and they were looking to do some pretty good things and then Hogan came in. But if you didn’t like 2009 again yes that would probably be because Russo did have full control again by the end of 2009.

I actually think Russo’s writing is better when he’s with Ed actually. Like his 99 WCW stuff is better than his 2000 stuff when him and Ed weren’t talking.

Yeah, like I was saying, russo was looking to make AJ their top guy at last after years of them being told by the fans that AJ is the guy, and then Hogan comes in and turns AJ into a Flair wanna be and he drops the belt to RVD on impact.
