as pets in Queensland (my home state) hence why
I've never even seen one "in the flesh" Its considered
an "invasive" animal under the Biosercurity Act of 2014.

I think it has to do with the impact they would/could have on Australia's own marsupial species.

Basically Australia is very protective of its own unique wildlife & we don't need any other furry
critters upsetting the "natural order" of things.

Whenever a species is put into an ecosystem in which they have never existed, they become invasive. It's because they have no natural predators in the ecosystem. An ecosystem needs predators to keep the system in check. Since ferrets have no predators in Australia, they would breed and eat other animals that are preyed upon by other animals. The ferrets will continue to breed and overpopulate.

It happens very frequently so governments try to keep invasive species out of their country.
