– The Ultimate Warrior defeats Hercules
– Brutus Beefcake defeats The Honky Tonk Man by DQ (HTM retains the WWF Intercontinental Title)
– Randy Savage defeats One Man Gang by DQ in the lone tournament semi-final (Ted DiBiase received a bye to the final after the Hogan-Andre quarter final finished as a double DQ)
– Demolition (Ax & Smash) defeat Strike Force (Rick Martel & Tito Santana) to win the WWF Tag Team Titles

Also in 1988, the first NWA Clash of the Champions event was held in Greensboro, North Carolina. The event was purposely held on this day in an attempt to draw fans away from the WWF and Wrestlemania. It drew an impressive 5.6 rating on TBS

NWA was way better then WCW
That was Jim Crockett Promotions that became WCW. It's still the same company.

I don't think it was even that long after this event that Turner bought it outright.

As for NWA being better than WCW... NWA was before my time so I don't know about that.

Midnights vs. Fantastics from Clash I is sick and kills any match from 'Mania IV.

Most of the matches from the first Clash does too though. Out of the 4 (??? - Survivor/Starrcade, Rumble/Bunkhouse, Mania 4/Clash 1 and Mania 5/Clash 6), the WM 4/Clash 1 was the most uneven pair of shows. Clash 1 was an awesome show and Mania 4 was subpar.

Huge title win for Sting. Sting's 1988 was his frustrating battle to win a title. Time after time, he was screwed out of winning a belt. As it turns out, all he needed to do was stop going after titles controlled by the Horsemen.
