[starting to question a lot of my musical decisions at this point and I'm only 15% in]. ​

Gave me a chuckle. But yeah, I feel that sometimes. I tend to think I've listened to a lot of music, a lot of variety as well. But even at my age and the amount of time I've listened to music I still continue to listen to other stuff and happily surprised that I enjoy it more so than not.

Prince is one of the best examples of a musical prodigy there is. He could pretty much play any instrument he put his mind to.

FWIW I would’ve picked Purple Rain if it got back to me. I love Prince and wanted to pick another album of his but Purple Rain is his masterpiece and as much as I love his other work his other albums are usually highlighted by only a few really good songs scattered out throughout the 80s and 90s so I ultimately didn’t pick one. Sign o’ The Times and 1999 were definitely considered though

I’m gonna kind of disagree. It was okay. Didn’t really have much of a story. Had some good emotional scenes but I felt like it was very shallow.

Yeah it was a soundtrack album but ended up taking on a life of its own.

Reverse it...the album was being recorded first and then Prince started coming up with ideas for a movie, which he got a screenwriter at the same time.

In the end, the movie is ridiculous, but it's very 80's, he's at the height of his popularity and it's a lot of fun. It's an Elvis movie in the mid 80's, he's the focus and everyone else is secondary...minus the family turmoil.

He also wrote every song in that movie

Album Listen #28: First time listening to more than a few ZZ Top songs at a time - and it has got a real party feel to it. The sort of music that you could stick on in the clubhouse or sheds after a rugby win. A few of the songs lose me - but all in all its fun and good experience. ​
