The show opened up with the new
NXT North American Champion Ethan Page in a celebratory mood. Page brags about his victory over
Ricky Saint, talks about how his ego carried him to the promised land once again, and how it would be the exact same result at Worlds Collide. All three of Page’s opponents in the Fatal Four Way at Worlds Collide,
Je’Von Evans, Laredo Kid and
Rey Fenix made it known in their own way that they all disagree. Fed up with the interruptions, Page attempted a cheap shot with the title to Fenix, but Fenix ducked, and a brawl broke out. Kid and Fenix end up working together, clearing the ring of Page and Page’s longtime nemesis in Evans. Tensions remained at a breaking point between these four throughout the night, with security forced to keep them apart backstage. Sick and tired of the chaos,
Ava booked a tag team match for later tonight with Kid and Fenix teaming up to take on Evans and Page. Or at least that was Ava’s plan, but the match never actually takes place. Page continues to get one up on his opponents and partner throughout the night, escalating into a crazy brawl in the parking lot as they are all escorted from the building. Page ends up scurrying off in a waiting limo as Evans, Kid and Fenix chase him away, whilst Ava is forced to confirm that her planned match is cancelled. It’s safe to say all three men are going to be gunning for Page this Saturday.
…
Whilst not doing anything of major note,
El Hijo Del Vikingo was shown in the back quite a few times, meeting NXT Superstars as a way to promote his appearance at Worlds Collide where he will defend his AAA Mega Championship against
Chad Gable.
…
Andre Chase didn’t seem all that pleased last week when his new
Chase U comrades opted to request a match from
Ava with the devastating
Darkstate. Well, Chase’s concerns turned out to be VERY warranted, as
Darkstate defeated Kale Dixon and Uriah Connors pretty easily. Chase was encouraging to his students afterwards, but it’s clear a lot of work is to be done.

After
Trick Williams shocked the world and acquired the
TNA Championship at Battleground, tonight he was ready for his first title defence. Trick Willy is interviewed by Byron Saxton, and he talks about how after defeating
Joe Hendry, everybody believes in him, and he’s going to show why everybody knows
Mike Santana has no chance in tonight’s main event. Kelly Kincaid also caught up with Santana before the main event, who talked about his journey to get to the top. He talked about his admiration for
Eddie Guerrero, the similar hurdles he’s faces and how Williams is just another obstacle that he’ll run down. The main event was a hell of a contest and Santana looked to be on his way to victory until TNA’s
First Class interfered.
AJ Francis and
KC Navarro got in Santana’s face until former champion,
Joe Hendry made the save. Hendry takes care of First Class but in the process, he accidentally hits Santana, who was leaning over the ropes to get at Francis, when Francis avoided the right hand from Hendry. The blow stunned Santana, who then turned straight into a Trick Shot, meaning
Trick Williams successfully defended the TNA Championship against Mike Santana. As Trick celebrated, Hendry looked super upset and guilty on the outside, knowing he probably has some answering to Santana to do in the coming weeks.
…
The TNA Championship wasn’t the only championship with some severe implications on this show, as quite a bit went down with the
NXT Tag Team Championship division. Current champions,
Hank Walker and Tank Ledger were interviewed by Sarah Schreiber. They discussed the state of the tag division and how they are ready for anything, when they are interrupted by
The High Ryze. Tyriek Igwe and Tyson Dupont shoot their shot, demanding a title shot, but before the champs could respond,
Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura appeared on the scene. Briggs was rather friendly with Hank and Tank after successfully teaming with them at Battleground, however, tonight was about business. Briggs and Inamura want a tag title shot as well. The champs are happy to give both teams a shot, but High Ryze and Briggs/Inamura begin debating who gets first shot, which leads to things getting physical. As they brawl, Hank and Tank conveniently just laze around and watch, until
Ava appeared and booked the two potential challenger teams in a match. The match is a rather solid tag affair, with Hank and Tank shown watching on a monitor in the back a few times. In the end,
High Ryze defeat Briggs and Inamura when Igwe manages to get a Roll Up on Briggs and grab the tights. As soon as the bell rings, High Ryze scurried to the back, signalling that they believe to have earned a title shot. Later on in the night, The High Ryze find Hank and Tank to obnoxiously tell them they are the number one contenders now. Hank and Tank mentioned they didn’t exactly do things the right way, but Igwe and Dupont don’t care, until Josh Briggs and Inamura appear. They are furious that they were cheated out of the match, and another brawl looks likely, however this time Ava gets on the scene before all hell breaks loose. Ava admits she enjoyed the tag match earlier tonight so much that she wants to see it again. She can’t take away High Ryze’s victory, but she doesn’t think that type of victory is befitting of a current/future champion. To put over just how good these teams are,
Ava books The High Ryze and Briggs and Inamura in a best of seven series where the winners will get an NXT Tag Title Shot. High Ryze certainly was not happy; however Briggs, Inamura and the tag champs were.
Ava also informed that match number two will take place next week.

Last week,
Myles Borne agreed to face
Charlie Dempsey with his freedom on the line, as he looked to remove himself from the
No Quarter Catch Crew. It was nothing personal but after Borne’s unsuccessful yet impressive attempt at becoming NXT Champion at Battleground, Borne felt breaking out on his own would be best for his career. The match was a
Heritage Cup Rules Match and both men started off respectfully, although Dempsey became more aggressive and was happy to bend the rules as the match went on.
Myles Borne ends up defeating Charlie Dempsey with his Dropkick in round four to officially leave No Quarter Catch Crew. Dempsey was furious at the result and stormed off, not exactly graceful in defeat. Surprisingly though, Borne’s celebration was interrupted, by the
Heritage Cup holder himself, Noam Dar. The Scot looked impressed with Borne, as he simply entered the ring and offered a handshake, with Borne accepted. Does that sign of respect mean Dar might be eyeing off Borne as his next challenger? The night didn’t end there for Myles Borne either, as later on in the night, he was prepping his bag to leave the arena, when he was approached by No Quarter Catch Crew members,
Tavion Heights and Wren Sinclair. Borne wasn’t sure whether they would react the same as Dempsey, but instead they both hug Borne and wish him the best. There are no hard feelings. The camera pans out though to show
Charlie Dempsey watching on from around the corner, and he looked very unhappy.

In her debut after winning LFG,
Tyra Mae Steele easily defeats Arianna Grace. The Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler destroyed Grace, before beating her with a Bridging German Suplex in less than three minutes. The commentary team gush over the performance afterwards and claim that Steele has just put the best women’s division in all of wrestling on notice.
…
Whilst Steele’s debut was impressive, there were some more developments this week in relation to the women’s division and the
NXT Womens Championship. Fresh off her successful victory over
Stephanie Vaquer, new champion Jacy Jayne decided to head to the ring, along with the rest of
Fatal Influence. It’s worth noting that despite their issues over the past few weeks, the title seemed to have fixed things, as there is no tension between Jayne,
Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx. Jayne gave a bit of a victory speech, talking about her journey, thanking her ride or dies in the ring with her, before moving onto what’s next. She claimed that Fatal Influence will dominate the division for as long as they want, and nobody can stop them. It turns out plenty of women on the roster disagree, as the segment got interrupted by
Jaida Parker, Jordynne Grace, Lash Legend, Lola Vice and Thea Hail. Each woman talked about why they deserve the next shot, but before things can escalate further,
Ava appears on the titantron. Ava announced that they will determine who the first challenger for Jayne will be in the coming weeks. There will be
two Triple Threat Matches over the next two weeks, and the winners of those matches will then do battle. Whoever wins that match, will challenge Jacy Jayne for the NXT Womens Championship. Everybody seemed pretty content with the announcement; however we will not know who will feature in the Triple Threat matches until a later date.
…
In a brief segment,
NXT Champion Oba Femi and
LFG winner Jasper Troy stared each other down intensely. Both men didn’t even take their eyes off each other as
they both signed a contract, agreeing to a future match together. Whilst the segment itself was rather uneventful, a match between these two could be incredibly explosive. Let’s watch this space.

NXT Womens North American Champion Sol Ruca and her tag team partner
Zaria were picked up by cameras having a debate in the backstage area. Whilst the argument was picked up halfway through, it seemed that Ruca was not happy with Zaria interfering at Battleground to assist Ruca in defeating
Kelani Jordan. Zaria tried to explain that she was only trying to help because Sol looked in trouble, but Ruca told Zaria it was not her place to do so. As the debate continued, a depressed
Tatum Paxely approached them, after the duo had offered her some support last week. In agony with the unexpected loss of her tag team partner, Paxely tells them she was hoping she could talk to them. Unlike last week, this week Sol and Zaria were to involved in their own drama and asked Paxely to give them a few minutes to finish their important conversation. Paxely’s face showed she was clearly taken aback by this unexpected response, and she kind of just sulked and walked around a corner. In the next hallway, Tatum is approached by
Izzi Dame. Much like last week, it looked like Dame was stirring the pot, as she told Tatum that true friends would help her, and not push her away like Ruca and Zaria just
“purge people who aren’t your real friends, because they’d do the same to you in a heartbeat”. With those words, Dame put a caring hand on Paxely’s shoulder before walking away, leaving the upset woman with a lot to ponder.

A sombre looking
Tony D’Angelo spent most the night hovering backstage, still upset with his loss to
Stacks Lorenzo at Battleground. With D’Angelo sitting on a chair, just looking into space, he was approached by
Luca Crusifino. Luca checks in on Tony and wanted to know how they, as in The Family, are going to get revenge on Lorenzo. D’Angelo looked conflicted, he mulled over his words, before he told Luca that he doesn’t trust him. Therefore gaining revenge on Stacks is Tony’s business and nobody else’s.

Bookers Note: This week it was NXT impacted by the event randomizer. The event was surrounding two tag teams competing in a Best of Seven series, hence the rather rushed nature of the series between The High Ryze and Briggs/Inamura. I’m not a big fan of the series really; however I’ve got a few ideas I need to explore further to drum up interest in the tag division in general.
For those who care, originally the opening segment between Ethan Page and his challengers for Worlds Collide was going to result in a tag ream match being booked. That plan was wiped once I was forced to put in match one of a best of seven series.
