I ended up voting liberal instead of NDP because my riding is so close so I had to use strategic voting and our incumbent MP since 2019 is a fucking twat who should've gotten 0 votes. It worked as the liberal candidate (who was the incumbent from 2015-2019) is back. Wish he had ran in 2021 and saved us 3 and a half years of dealing with dumbass Tracy.

Also there were plenty of reasons why people hated Trudeau's government that aren't necessarily a symptom of the Lib party as a whole.

Trudeau came in with big promises and slogans and didn't deliver on much of his stuff, and he was also a dude who continually showed lip-service without backing anything up. On top of his issues in the past, and Cons used his inherent unpopularity to their advantage.

Trudeau resigns and Cons completely lose their lightning rod that galvanized people to vote Con. They had no platform, and on top of that, Trump stirring the pot with his annexation talk, and people were rightfully outraged.

Carney had a plan, and honestly, it's a damn good one, and it's no wonder why people who may have been wary or hostile to Trudeau (debatable more or less leftist than centre-right Carney) hopped onto his platform. Having an actual verified plan and history of backing up your word when it comes to finances or economic policy is a huge winner for moderates and (tho they don't want to admit it), a lot of left-leaning people.

Carney is literally the right man at the right time.

Trudeau was complicated for sure. He delivered on cannabis but completely failed on his first term promise of proportional representation changes to the Canada voting act. That alone pissed off alot of left leaners like myself. There was also the SLC Lavalin and other unethical behavior that he was accused of, more than once. Far from perfect, stopped listening to parts of the country and it did him in.

I will say he did an excellent job at leading during the pandemic. It's his work after especially left to be desired , such as his failures to deliver on affordable housing or fix our failing health care systems regardless if under provincial jurisdiction. He also did a poor job after his first term at being a uniter. He also waited too long to cut back on immigration.

Overall, a pretty good prime minister, not too tier, but did well when we needed. Over stayed his welcome. But didn't do anything horrible either

To add, Carney is a literal crisis manager . We're in a economic crisis with the US as well.as facing threats. Canada had no appetite for division when faced with an existential threat .

Carney literally had the perfect resume for this unique problem.

Also, and I'll keep repeating it. Liberal in Canada has always been center. It leaned left under Trudeau. It will lean right under a literal banker. This is not the same government, their platform is public . Anyone can go look.

He promised housing , immigration caps, interprovincial trade restriction lifted and a bunch of other shit. None of which is particular socialist at all.

For example go look at one of the more popular liberal governments in the 90s under Chretiens. They were center right with some social policies. Economically liberal party has never really veered too far left unless you consider public services far left.

Also fun fact we used to have the progressive conservative party before, like in the us, they went big tent and let all the crazies in the get more votes. Now there's no center right party unless the libs feel it's blowing that way.

Judge Orders Trump Officials to Disburse Funding for Radio Free Europe

A federal judge ordered the Trump administration on Tuesday to disburse congressionally approved grant money it has withheld from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, a federally funded news organization that provides independent reporting in countries with limited press freedom.

The judge, Royce C. Lamberth of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, ordered the Trump administration to pay the news organization $12 million for its April funding. Judge Lamberth appeared to close a loophole from his previous ruling, which allowed the Trump administration to effectively hold all funds for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty while facially complying with the court mandate.

“In this case,” the judge wrote in his ruling, “it was Congress who ordained that the monies at issue” should go to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in legislation signed by President Trump himself.
