The idea of rotating goaltenders can work if multiple are starter quality. Go with the hot hand. Better long term for the regular season and if injury happens, but a superstar goaltender for the playoffs is more appealing.
Rotating goalies never really pan out very well though in the long run and you don't se goalie rotating in the playoffs even when you have 2 shitty options (oilers) they'll stick with the starter because that generally gives you a better chance in a series then just 1 off games.
The Avs are most likely not going to go with rotating goalies though, they just don't value high priced goalies, goalie good, they run with it, when contracts up they let em go. Funny that Sakic is the GM doing this since he played with Roy when he won his cups
