I wasn't alive for (neither were you I believe) but I'm 90% sure the same shit happened to the Houston Oilers when they moved or when Art Modell announced in the middle of the night that the Browns were moving to Baltimore, and when the North Stars moved out of Minnesota.

You piss off a fan base enough and they just fuckin revolt.

Browns fans literally tore up Cleveland Stadium in a riot.
