Man, Padres really pulling some punches here. This coming season is going to be interesting. I like to see new teams coming up big. Go Yankees all the way, though.

Here's some news going around in the league:

Corey Kluber's a Yankee, signing a deal with the Yankees for 1-year for $11 million.
Right-hander Corey Kluber and the New York Yankees are finalizing a one-year, $11 million deal that would bring the two-time American League Cy Young Award winner to the Bronx, pending a physical, sources familiar with the agreement told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Friday.

Rafael Devers' staying with Boston for a 1-year $4.575 million contract.
BOSTON -- A person with knowledge of the terms said the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $4,575,000, one-year deal with third baseman Rafael Devers that avoids salary arbitration.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because details have not been announced by the team.

Devers, 24, had a breakout season in 2019, when he batted .311 with 32 homers and 115 RBIs, leading the majors with 54 doubles and 359 total bases and finishing 12th in the AL MVP voting.

But last year was a setback: He hit .263 while committing 14 errors at third base -- most in the majors. The next closest was 11. Devers earned $256,481 prorated of a $692,500 salary last season.

With Devers' deal the Red Sox have come to terms will all their arbitration-eligible players this offseason. In December, Boston agreed to one-year contracts with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez ($8.3 million), right-handers Matt Barnes ($4.5 million), Ryan Brasier ($1.25 million) and Austin Brice ($870,000), and catcher Kevin Plawecki ($1.6 million).

ESPN

Chicago Cubs avoid arbitration with Kris Bryant and Javier Baez.
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs avoided arbitration with two players who will be free agents after 2021, as third baseman Kris Bryant settled with the team for $19.5 million for the upcoming season while shortstop Javy Baez will make $11.65 million.

Both players are coming off subpar 2020 campaigns. Bryant dealt with several nagging injuries, limiting him to just 34 games. He hit .206 with four home runs. Baez hit .203 with eight home runs.

Bryant, 29, will enter his seventh season with the Cubs after the club called him up 10 days into his rookie year in 2015 to keep him for an extra season before he hits free agency. Otherwise, he would be a free agent this winter.

Bryant filed a grievance against the team for being denied a full year of service time but lost the case last offseason. He has also been the subject of trade rumors, as he's unlikely to sign an extension with the team.

Meanwhile, Baez, 28, is more likely to stick with the Cubs long term before he hits the open market. He was negotiating with the team last March before the league shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic. Those talks have not reignited yet but should pick up again in spring training.

The Cubs also settled on 2021 salaries for catcher Willson Contreras for $6.65 million and pitcher Zach Davies for $8.6 million.

ESPN

Also, RIP to Tommy Lasorda. He was an outstanding manager who put the Dodgers on the map, winning two World Series titles in 1981 and 1988. His legacy will live on forever.

Disgraced New York Mets GM Jared Porter fired for sending explicit images and lewd text messages, after being hired a month ago. The article's much, much longer, so I wanted to make the quote shorter. The link is below for the full story.

For the woman, it's sad that she got repeatedly harassed by Porter. No woman should experience any kind of harassment from sickos like him.
New York Mets general manager Jared Porter sent explicit, unsolicited texts and images to a female reporter in 2016, culminating with a picture of an erect, naked penis, according to a copy of the text history obtained by ESPN.

The woman, a foreign correspondent who had moved to the United States to cover Major League Baseball, said at one point she ignored more than 60 messages from Porter before he sent the final lewd photo. The text relationship started casually before Porter, then the Chicago Cubs director of professional scouting, began complimenting her appearance, inviting her to meet him in various cities and asking why she was ignoring him. And the texts show she had stopped responding to Porter after he sent a photo of pants featuring a bulge in the groin area.

Porter continued texting her anyway, sending dozens of messages despite the lack of a response. On Aug. 11, 2016, a day after asking her to meet him at a hotel in Los Angeles, Porter sent the woman 17 pictures. The first 15 photos were of the hotel and its restaurants. The 16th was the same as an earlier photo of the bulge in the pants. The 17th was of a bare penis.

George Springer's going North to Toronto, signing a 6-year $150 million contract with the Blue Jays:

Outfielder George Springer and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a six-year, $150 million contract, sources confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan on Tuesday.

Springer is headed to the Blue Jays' spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida, for a physical. If all goes according to plan, Toronto will get the star it has been looking for all winter.

The contract would be the largest given out by the Blue Jays in franchise history. Their only other contract that topped $100 million was a $126 million extension given to Vernon Wells in 2006.

Veteran outfielder Michael Brantley will be returning to the Houston Astros after the free agent agreed to a two-year, $32 million deal, sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

Brantley, 33, continues to boast a high contact rate, low strikeout ratio and polish at the plate. In 46 games with the Astros in 2020, alternating between left field and DH, Brantley hit. 300, with five homers, 22 RBIs and an OPS of .840.

He has hit at least .300 in five seasons since 2014, tied with four others for the most such seasons in baseball in that time span. He also has struck out in just 10.1% of his plate appearances since 2014, third best in baseball in that time span, with a minimum of 2,000 plate appearances.

Fox 26 in Houston was first to report that Brantley and the Astros had agreed to the deal.

Brantley also signed a two-year, $32 million contract when he joined the Astros before the 2019 season.

Injuries have troubled Brantley over his 12-year career with Cleveland and the Astros, in which Brantley has a .297 average, 114 homers, 640 RBIs and a .794 OPS. He has been an All-Star four times, and in 2014 he finished third in the MVP voting.

Earlier, ESPN had reported that Brantley had agreed to a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, who had already reached a six-year, $150 million deal with former Astros teammate George Springer, sources confirmed.

ESPN
The false rumors earlier of Brantley signing with the Blue Jays really got me. But, to find out later today that the Astros were keeping him for two more seasons. Smart move.

Honestly, the Astros can't afford to lose him like they did to Springer.

I love me some Springer he'll do great with The Blue Jays. I know my Phillies made some deals, but for sure they need Starting Pitching and to resign JT Realmuto which could cost them loads of dinero to get it done.

He'll fit right in Toronto that has a stellar batting lineup, consisting of Bo Bichette, Randal Grichuk, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and 2020 Silver Slugger Award winner Teoscar Hernandez.

The offense looks promising with him on board.

Oh, and the Blue Jays signed the leading saves leader of 2019, relief pitcher Kirby Yates, to the team yesterday. That gives the Blue Jays a relief pitcher they really need.

The Pirates have trade pitcher Jameson Tallion to the Yankees for four prospects: Pitchers Miguel Yajure and Roansy Contreas, infielder Maikol Escotto and outfielder Canaan Smith.

Phillies and JT Realmuto have an agreement on five year deal at $115.5 million. Record AAV for catcher

Happy to keep JT, but damn between Harper and JT that is alot of dough to put on two players. We need Starting Pitching help desperately if my Phils intend to do anything this Season.
