I don't know, I liked Breckin Meyer's character. All the way up until Freddy killed him in a video game. :

He was so cookie cutter. He doesn't like his dad pressuring him to be like him so he lashes out by smoking pot. He was good for this though.....

Although he was a cookie cutter character and pretty much the same character he took into Clueless, he played the part well. Other than Tom and Roseanne, he was the bright spot of the movie.

I didn't mind the character of John at the beginning but they didn't give me enough reason to care about him. He was pretty cute though, not dreamy like Robert Pattinson, just cute.
