It was a setup between both Bret Hart and Vince McMahon, Both wCw and WWF worked on an angle that would boost the popularity of both Federations, you don't know what goes on behind the curtain and it's pretty obvious that it was a "work" Vince and Ted teamed up maybe and made "The Montreal Screwjob" which did indeed make Mr.McMahon's Character and started the Attitude Era, it also boosted WCW's fanbase as many turned on to see what exactly happened, the fans were fooled.

Ah ok, that makes sense. But then why is the incident still kayfabed, in documentaries, and books that clearly aren't kayfabed as a whole? Why are they still trying to protect the incident like it was a shoot?

Don't know why that is still happening, But I'm sure that it was nothing but a
"work" maybe they are doing this to still build Bret Hart for a future return.
Another thing is that even with long Documentries and Books by greats some things are untold and scripted, we don't know who was responsible for announcing Mankind's Title Victory in wCw. We don't know if really Hogan put WcW down, we don't know the secret behind nWo and if really Vince Russo fired Hulk Hogan at Bash at the Beach. The Montreal Screwjob will never be exposed and that's what Vince McMahon wants.

Thoughts on the screwjob?

I'm going to quote GOD aka Ultimate Warrior and say this.... All the cameras that shot the Bret hart documentary (the one that chronicled the screwjob) were in the right place at the right time. Considering it was a "shoot", I found that a bit odd.

True, but im not sure that Bret could come back for any reason. He MIGHT be a leader for the "new hart foundation" if its ever going to be considered in Raw rather than just in OVW.

Bret will come back before he is totally done with Wrestling, TNA or WWE doesn't matter I'm talking about "Wrestling" and that will happen.
Imagine what the reaction of the fans would be if Bret Hart returned this Monday Night or in 2 years time? Not quite the reaction that would have been there if he had returned in 2002 or something, also his pay check would be in 7 figures or maybe 8 if he decides to return. It's all good in Wrestling or should I say "Sports Entertainment", there ain't no rivalry between Foley and Bischoff. Patterson and Jerry Lawler are good friends, who knows if Vince and Bret are still good friends.
Whatever the case, In my opinion, The Montreal Screwjob was a "work" just to boost the popularity of WCW and WWF and I'm 100% sure on that.
