Wife MVP :proud

The Last of Us star Nick Offerman has revealed he was nearly forced to turn down his role in the show, though some encouragement from his wife pushed him to take it.

The actor appeared in this week's episode 'Long, Long Time', which focused on his character Bill, a survivalist who develops a relationship with a man called Frank (Murray Bartlett) after the latter stumbles into his compound.

We see the couple thrive over the years, though heartbreakingly Frank decides to take his own life after becoming terminally ill, with Bill also deciding to die as he doesn't want to live without his true love.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Offerman explained that a scheduling conflict almost meant he had to turn down the role, though his wife Megan Mullally was insistent that he should take the part.

"I mean, when I got the script, Craig Mazin wrote the script who did Chernobyl among other things. That guy seems to know what he's doing," he began.

"He sent me the script. And I didn't have time on the calendar to say yes to this job. And my incredible goddess of a wife read it and she said, 'You're going to Calgary, buddy. Have fun. You have to do this'."

"She's the curator. She chose every garment that I'm wearing tonight," Offerman went on to joke.

During the interview, Offerman also reacted to the outpouring of praise over the episode, saying: "It's a tsunami of wonderful, generous plaudits."

"The episode began airing on Sunday. We had 6.4 million viewers. And HBO – it's not TV – they are so not f**king around that they send me on the Jimmy Kimmel show on Wednesday to cull the stragglers," he quipped. "The 17 of you that haven't seen it yet, you're in for a treat."

Last week, it was confirmed that The Last of Us had been renewed for a second season by HBO.

Man this episode was real good, I wanted more, please give me more HBO. Very Joel & Ellie heavy, I been waiting patiently, I really enjoyed the mix between the humour/serious moments, they really nailed it here. Always just comes across super natural. Definitely feel the bond building between the two characters with Joel especially opening up a lot more about more personal subjects, road trip scenes where they are driving and sleeping in the woods I thought were just perfect on-screen chemistry. Shootout scene was so tense, and it was cool to see Melaine Lynskey appear. She seems ruthless as hell. To say this was a shorter episode, they really achieved a lot with the runtime. Ending really left you wanting more as well.

It's just masterful really. I was smiling so much during this scene. Pedro Pascal has great reactions.

Crazy episode. I'm really digging Lamar Johnson as Henry, already felt pretty attached to the character, his relationship with Sam. They did a good job building that up, liked the bits of development before they meet Ellie & Joel. Really well done. Very impressed with how they develop the characters.

That scene of all the infected rising up from the sinkhole. :worried Damn they really nailed the designs. Bloater looked terrifying.

They sure know how to hit hard in the emotions department with these endings.

Yeah every Week I have to prep myself because I know it's going to tear me into pieces like Episode 5 once again did. Sam/Henry's Arc man that had me going because I'm the oldest of four and I'm the closest with my Bro Anthony and he's the youngest of us four. Henry how he was taking care of his Brother is something I would of done in a heartbeat and it hurts my soul when he has to kill his Brother to protect everyone. I'm glad that Katherine or Catherine got hers she was the least intimidating person. I'm glad you said the name because I went OH MY FUCKING GOD when that big Monster came out of the ground for some feasting. I kept watching like Jesus how many of them are coming up and if these infected people planned this attack. They were going through the Town and all those Cities not won't be the last time we've seen of them I imagine.

Ellie/Joel relationship keeps growing the trust they have is great to see. I knew Ellie would be okay during that attack with the inflected but that doesn't mean it wasn't intense knowing that Ellie could still be seriously hurt if she was attacked. When they were burying Sam and Henry and she wrote Sorry on the Pad man that had me crying. Joel knew at that point she knew Sam was infected and it was too late for him. I imagine in some ways she is starting to doubt if she is the one to save the entire World when she couldn't save Sam.

Those Joel & Tommy scenes in the last episode were pretty heavy stuff. Really amazing acting from Pascal especially. I'm really looking forward to the next one and Storm Reid coming in to the show. She's been really great in most things I've watched her in, think she's a good pick for Riley.
