Back in the day, I heard he had to whip a few over zealous fans asses with that racket. Various wrestlers have mentioned that in shoots. I remember him talking about fans confronting him when he was pumping gas in Columbus. Man, Georgia was a hot spot for wrestling in the territory days!

Bro I've heard these stories too :DEAD: Southern rasslin' in the 70s and 80s had some UNRULY fans :lol

Are we sure Arn still makes it since he's helping kill professional wrestling currently :slip:

But like EC said earlier, Cornette is still in character for a lot of this, I'm sure he's not making up opinions by any means, I just think he exaggerates the opinions he already has for a brand. Very successfully I might add.

I've never yet heard Jim say anything negative about Arn Anderson's involvement in AEW. In fact, a lot of people seem to think he hates the company as a whole, but it's simply just not true.

I assumed it was more of a meme than anything bc he's critical of them for doing the same things he's been critical about in wrestling forever and AEW fans probably blow it overboard, which then gives Jim more to talk about :lol

I just chalk it up to him being an old out of touch bitter man who just hates everything while sitting on his front porch talking about them good ol days.

My dad tells me this a lot. All the big stars would be in Macon at least once a week he tells me, and he'd go a lot.

That, and the great music history of Macon from back in the day makes me wish I was alive back then. :mjcry

Carrollton was a hot bed for GCW and NWA back then too. I'm friends with a former WWE wrestler who lives up there (another guy Jim Cornette has spoken highly of) and he told me about the old shows when he was in high school. The only shows I got to see live were Indy Shows that had wrestlers who were transitioning from WWF to WCW. I remember seeing Kevin Sullivan vs Greg Valentine (it was a fag team match and each partner were Indy guys from Florida). This was when kayfabe was still big, so I only got to talk to The Hammer. He was a nice down to earth person.

Want to talk about epic? AJ Styles vs Steve Corina occurred at the Valdosta Civic Center just before Styles went to TNA. I loved Corino when he was in ECW and I remembered AJ from his short stint in WCW. Man, they tore the house down in front of approximately 250 people. They didn't phone in their performance that night.

Cornette does seem to like Arn.

When it comes to AEW, Cornette does give credit to them when earned. He likes MJF (who should have beaten Stone Cold Cosplay) and thinks he could be the next break out star. His major gripes are the ridiculous over the top spots and what he perceives as lack of respect for the business. The guys wrestling blow up dolls and children really doesn't help gain new fans. Its like he is saying, they're only trying to satisfy the current Hardcore fan base rather than expand. AEW had a great concept. You know, be an alternative to WWE. That is what made TNA red rot in the middle of the 2000s. What killed their momentum? Bringing in too many former WWE and WCW guys, no longer focusing on the guys they already had. AEW is starting to do the same damn thing. I love Rusev, but why you gonna bring him into some jobbers wedding angle? Then have him do the same, "I am disgruntled at WWE..." promo that TNA and AEW have already down to death? Why not just bring him in a Miro and have him destroy the jobber and say he isn't there to be funny or cute, im here to put this locker room on notice? This is a guy who can legit mess someone up, so why not just let him run through some people on TV and get his luster back? Or just bring him in to be the muscle for someone like MJF or Cody? Not a wedding.... at least he wasn't a simp this time.

I think it's just a tad bit early for MJF tbh.

I would've been FINE with him winning, as I am a huge MJF fan, but I think he needs to be the TNT Champion first, and build himself up a bit more before winning the top title.

AEW has plenty of stuff I dislike, Private Party, Marko Stunt, The Women's Division(I love to look at them, but most the matches are just not that great) so I'm sure me and him agree on that stuff tho.

He isn't though, his politics pretty well prove that much.

What exactly is he out of touch about? I'd like a list?

He seems to think everything needs to be how it was back in his era, when wrestling has to change overtime. A lot of what he likes, would just not work nowadays, I watch a lot of this old wrestling he talks about, some of it's good sure, but a lot of it is just pretty damn boring to me. :toomanykobes Sorry I don't like Jim boy like you do, we can disagree on things.

I don't think he thinks everything needs to be exactly like it was in the old days. But wrestling sure as hell could do with a lot more stripping down to the bare bones, and building from there.
