The Grimpact Zone: Rebooking WWE History

Actually, I've had most of these bookings in my head since at least 2017. It's just a tad more refined in 2020 than it was in 2017 (for reference, Rude and Quake would never have gotten reigns in my 2017 mind/ Perfect would have won in 1990 instead).

Part 4:
The Death of Hulkamania
(1992-1993)

The Summer of 1992, with Hulk Hogan out of the picture for much of 1992, would see the WWF Championship trade hands between newfound hated rivals Ric Flair and Randy Savage. Their rivalry would stem from Flair's rumored affair with Miss Elizabeth, and the hatred between the two was palpable. So much so, that Savage would join the 4+ club, and Flair himself the 3+ club. King of the Ring, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and the 1993 Royal Rumble would each see Savage and Flair exchange the titles. In the end, Flair would come out on top in the rivalry.

But Hulk Hogan was not quite done, as he'd officially make his return on the declaration that should Hogan fail to win the Royal Rumble match, he'd retire from professional wrestling. Needless to say, Hulk Hogan won the 1993 Royal Rumble; Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan would have their long anticipated WWF Championship rematch at WrestleMania IX.

Hogan wanted his rematch, and Flair was set on preventing the Hulkster from becoming the champion once again. Flair made the promise that if he could not beat Hulk Hogan on this rematch, he'd quit the WWF. The stakes were set for WrestleMania IX: Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair for the WWF Championship, and the added stipulation that Flair would be fired if he lost the match.

Howdy doody, the man did it, and Hulk Hogan became the first entrant of the +5 club. Flair was fired from the WWF, and without Flair, there was no #1 Contender. That is until a mysterious man from the Orient managed by the dreaded Mr. Fuji stepped up...

Yokozuna, who had debuted in late 1992, had begun a massive winning streak, against popular names like Virgil, Jim Duggan, and even (once on Superstars) Randy Savage. Hogan was not afraid of this new challenge; but he'd soon learn to regret it. At King of the Ring 1993, Hogan looked to have had the match well in hand, but some tricky interference from a sordid cameraman saw a flash of fire hit him in the face. An opportunity opened up, and Yokozuna pounced, this time not only hitting the leg drop on Hogan twice, but taking the chance to Bonzai Drop him twice as well. Hogan was unmoving in the ring as the ref counted the three and Yokozuna had destroyed the dreams of Hulk Hogan for one more magical run before it barely started...

A few days after the match, Hogan went to officially announce his retirement from the WWF, citing that the beatdown he had endured at the hands of Yokozuna was too much for him to take physically... and with that, the Hulkamania Era, WWF's most enduring and profitable era ended, leading the World Wrestling Federation into a new era: The New Generation.
