You're doing great, Grim. It just occurred to me earlier that we still haven't seen a Taker run. Curious how long that gets put off.

Earthquake is a unique choice but miles better than Slaughter and the booking was great. Comes off as a total fucking monster. Not sure I like Rude winning the title just to drop it but then again Warrior is shit so I'm cool with it :side:. Rest sounds great especially using real life events to help your booking.

Part 5:
The New Generation
1993-1995

yokohulk.jpg

With the end of the Hulkamania era, the New Generation Era could begin in earnest with the reign of Yokozuna. For weeks after Yokozuna defeated the mighty Hulk Hogan, his manager Mr. Fuji would declare that no American could beat his champion. This culminated into the Stars and Stripes Challenge aboard the USS Intrepid, where Yokozuna put down any challenger that attempted to slam him onto the mat... except for one...

Lex-Slams-Yoko-640x370.png

Out of a helicopter onto the Intrepid came the 1993 King of the Ring Lex Luger, giving hope to a nation in need by slamming Yokozuna with ease and setting himself up as the de facto #1 contender to Yokozuna's WWF Championship for SummerSlam.

For weeks leading up to SummerSlam though, both champion and challenger would undergo a set of challenges to prepare themselves for the SummerSlam. While Luger would challenge wrestlers like Shawn Michaels, Rick Martel, and Ted DiBiase, Yokozuna challenged such excruciating luminaries such as Marty Jannetty, Virgil, and Koko B. Ware. They would finally meet at SummerSlam, Luger having gone through a murderer's row of competition, and Yoko relatively fresh, but the world would be shocked to discover the outcome.

bkec5wu1lk541.jpg

By god, Lex Luger did it! He defeated Yokozuna definitively (fuck what the boys are rioting for, then can walk out for all Grim cares). With the WWF Championship around his waist, the Lex Express was full steam ahead towards Survivor Series, where his team (Luger, Steiner Brothers, and Jim Duggan [He'll leave after the show in the Grimpact Zone]) would go on to lose to Yoko's team (Yokozuna, The Headshrinkers, and Ludvig Borga). With Survivor Series out of the way, Yokozuna and his new American spokesperson, James E. Cornette, prepared for the title rematch that would come at the Royal Rumble. A comedy of errors for Lex Luger would occur at the Rumble as he'd drop the strap to Yokozuna in controversial fashion involving a ref bump and Jim Cornette throwing sand into the eyes of Luger.

During this time, Bret Hart would come back from an injury exacerbated by his jealous younger brother Owen to win the 1994 Royal Rumble from the #10 spot. But due to the circumstances of Yokozuna's title victory, Lex Luger was guaranteed a rematch. So it was decided that Bret Hart and Lex Luger would both compete for the WWF Championship (in the same fashion as real life so we can also get Bret/Owen).

Bret Hart became ascendant and finally clawed his way to the top of the World Wrestling Federation by overcoming the odds and defeating Yokozuna in the main event. With this victory, despite losing to Owen earlier in the night, Bret Hart was a triumphant man who had gone through hell and high water to attain a dream of his.

Bret enjoyed several months as champion, defending the title against anyone who was willing and even retaining against a rematching Yokozuna at King of the Ring. But trouble brewed for the elder Hart.

77723-15499641489467-800.jpg

For weeks building up to SummerSlam, Owen declared himself the "King of Harts" thanks to his King of the Ring win. The hatred between the two Harts would finally build at SummerSlam in a Steel Cage Match. Owen Hart had once again shocked the world, this time by defeating his brother Bret yet again when the limelight was on. Owen Hart is now the WWF Champion for the time being!

Bret Hart knew he needed to win the WWF Championship back from Owen to maintain his own pride; the only way to truly beat Owen was to make him submit. At Survivor Series, Owen would lose a Submission match between he and Bret. With Owen hopefully behind him, Bret looked to the Royal Rumble, where Diesel was his challenger.

Bret-Hart-Diesel.jpg

Bret looked have had the match won, when suddenly... Ref bump... Who's that coming down the aisle? IT'S OWEN HART WITH A METAL PIPE! Bret Hart is being taken to the woodshed by his younger brother, who seems to have gone mad with jealousy! Owen has left Bret but a broken heap. Diesel only needs to climb onto Bret... and the three count comes slowly... Diesel is now the WWF Champion in one of the most unbelievable of matches. Too bad his reign would not last very long...

07_WM11_UNDERTAKER.jpg

Enter the 1995 Royal Rumble winner... The Undertaker. A balwark of the WWF for nearly five years now, he would get his moment in the sun at WrestleMania XI against Diesel. With Bret Hart facing Owen Hart in a No Holds Barred match, Diesel would defend the WWF Championship against Undertaker. At the end of the night, The Undertaker finally would win the WWF Championship in a tough competition against Diesel. With that... the New Generation is at it's peak...

Next Time...
