Benoit/Angle @ Royal Rumble 03. I know people have boners for Angle, but Benoit gave Angle the best match of his career here. Angle has charisma, but as far as ring work goes, he isn't fit to clean Benoit's ass with his tongue.

I just watched this match, and i really wasn't that into it as much as others. Too me, the highlight was Beniot diving head butt which seemed like quite a leap. I had really high expectations, because i believe this match is rated in the 4.5-4.75 range, but it just didn't click with me and having high expectations didn't help. I liked the intensity, but i just felt it was very redundant. German suplex after german suplex...Crossface, after crossface, and Ankle lock after ankle lock. I typically like when wrestlers reverse finishers in matches, but this felt rushed, and overdone. The crowd didn't really get involved until the end as well, and thought it was quite the reaction for Benoit after. I thought the match would go a little longer. I'd probably rate it at about 3.75- 4 stars.

Un-sung gem: Regal v Benoit @ No Mercy 2006.
THIS.

Actually, I've enjoyed ANY match between Benoit and Regal. It seems like Benoit threw his chops that much harder when he was in the ring with Regal, someone who was on the same level as him in my opinion as far as mat wrestling skill goes. Benoit actually managed to chop Regal in the FOREHEAD in one match!

he did his 3 germans, which si very common now a days

Why do you think it's so common. How much have you seen it before Benoit?

Anyways, yeah...Benoit is always going to me my top 5 favorites of all time. He was short and wasn't the biggest in the bunch but the guy could hang with anyone. From Eddie to A-Train to Big Show to Rey Mysterio, Benoit could tell a great story in the ring with whoever he was in the ring with. He even put some interest in Rhyno in their little program. Think about the SmackDown Six. Benoit is a huge part of that era where SmackDown was THE show to watch each and every week. Ha and that's just his WWF/E stuff. In Eddie's book, he says how Benoit was one of the best wrestlers he's ever seen wherever he was.

I heard the one they had at the Pillman Memorial Show is their best. I have never seen it but am seriously thinking about tracking down the whole show for that match. Heard it was so stiff, we're talking it makes Joe/Necro look like Hogan/Warrior II.

As far as Regal being on Benoit's level...ummm no. Regal is no slouch but never had Benoit's ability to make slobs look great.

^^^Seen that too... Just that the 2006 one is much fresher in my mind having only seen that PPV earlier this year.

Anyone gimme a heads-up on any other events they may have faced off in during the WCW days?

Just came across this thread, sorry for the bump but I have to give my thoughts on Benoit:

Benoit, one of my all time favorite wrestlers, one of the most sound workers I have ever watched. He wasn't flashy or charismatic, but he could get the job done with anyone, I dont think I've seen a truely BAD Benoit match. He, much like many of the other great technical wrestlers, could work anybody and make it feel natural. Despite what he did, he will still be one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots IMO. Some of his matches with HBK, Angle, Jericho and Eddie are some of my all time favroites, despite be not having much of a background on Daniel Bryan I think Bryan could nicely fill that viod of a stiff, technically sound worker that hasn't been filled since his death (and I am not the biggest Bryan fan on the board)

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT.

Montana, what the hell man? I would have expected you to see the greatness that is Chris Benoit. Every move was crisp; everything connected; he sold better than just about anybody to walk through the WWE in the past 20 years; every big time match had a real story to it, and many of his weekly TV matches did too; he did not believe in trading moves and calling it a match; he was good against any type of an opponent -- smaller (various Japs), bigger (Lesnar, Show), brawlers (Austin, Triple H, Rock), technicians (Malenko, Regal), high-fliers (Guerrero, Jericho), North American (Michaels, Orton, Edge), and horrible wrestlers (Bashams, 2003 Rhyno, Chuck Palumbo); he used high spots, but didn't rely on them by any means; and he ruled.

I'm going to go cry myself to sleep watching Chris Benoit matches.

Yeah. I don't know what it is to be honest. You'd think he'd be one of my favorites, but there is just something missing for me. Don't get me wrong, i think he's a top notch wrestler. I just don't think he's better than guys like Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho. I'm trying to look back and figure out what i'm not getting, but i'm not there yet. I've got the hard knocks dvd, been watching the Japan matches, ECW, and WCW. Good stuff. Just nothing that really stands out, saying this is the best technical wrestler.

( i must like to argue, i've been debating everything lately, sorry guys)
