It's that year again, the year of the Olympics, the Time for everyone to come together and celebrate humanity as a whole, through pomp and circumstance, through blood, sweat, tears, and brotherhood. The Olympics begins on 26 July and end on 11 August.

It is Paris's third time hosting the Olympics, and additionally this will be the 100th year anniversary since the 1924 Paris Olympics. It will also be the first year for which Breakdancing will be introduced as an Olympic contest.

So I live about an hour north of Paris (by TGV train).

As a sporting event, we're all super excited about the olympics coming here, but it would be fair to say that the mood here is...cautious.

A lot of worry that parts of the logistics will be undermined by strikes by unions here. Also a feeling of fear of terrorism (north of France and Belgium has higher than average incidences of extremism and terrorism) and the international conflicts aren't helping allay those concerns.
