Survivor Series 1998
Holy Jesus am I reading this write? A 'Deadly Game' Tournament is being placed at the PPV, which interesting enough includes 14 matches!!! The idea of this tournament is to prevent both Austin and The Rock from becoming WWF Champion. Also interesting enough this is the first show where the WWF Women's Championship and the WWF Tag Team Championship are defended, and also this is the very first event not to hose a Survivor Series Elimination matchup. Anyways the tournament is to determine who will walk away from Survivor Series with the vacent WWF Championship. Also argubably this is the first Survivor Series of the Attitude Era! Alright let's bring it on!
Oh and just a small note after watching this; there was hardly any backstage between the segments, and when there was they would only be like 10 seconds max.
Live from St. Louis, Mississori
Commentators: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler
Ring Announcer: Howard Finkle
We start off with the tournament bracket being shown and the 12 matches that are going to happen for the night which will determine the winner of the vancent WWF Championship. Plus 2 other matches for the Women's Title and I think the Tag Team titles iirc.
INSERT TOURNAMENT BRACKET!
Mr. McMahon is then introduced while on a wheelchair and he says that we're guaranteed a new champion. He then introduces the WWF Hardcore Champion Mankind to the ring. Apparently Mankind has a mystery opponent for tonight, and Mr McMahon is about to announce it, lmao he mentions WCW during the introduction speech. And the opponent is... Dwayne Gill? Oh shit it's GIllberg!
"Deadly Game" 1st Round Match: Mankind vs Dwayne Gill
Mankind attacks Gillberg even before he enters the ring, then stomps down on Mankind and Mankind hits the double underhook DDT, apparently he debuted that move tonight, and he won the match right there.
Winner of the Match: Mankind. I swear to fuck if all matches are this bad... aw whatever. SQUASH!
We see a recap on what happened at Sunday Night Heat when Jacquine attacks Sable, then Sable is shown backstage being pissed off and says that she'll win the match and become WWF Women's Champion.
'Deadly Game' First Round Match: Jeff Jarrett vs Al Snow
Al Snow is at ringside and Jarrett tries to ambush him but Al Snow hits a Swanton Bomb from the steel steps, then hits a springboard legdrop from the apron! Jarrett though hits a flapjack onto the turnbuckles then hits an elbow to the face. Jarrett slams Snow to the corner and hits some corner shots but Snow counters back and hits a chop, then gets thrown outside but hits a clothesline from the apron, climbs the ropes but misses a diving legdrop. Jarrett hits some strikes and then a nice dropkick for two. Snow and Jarrett get into a pinning seqencee then Jarrett goes for a spinbuster but Snow counters that into a DDT but Jarrett counters! Jarrett slides under Snow but Snow hits an atomic drop, but Jarrett knocks Snow back and both men are down. Snow grabs the guitar that Jarrett has Head, Snow misses the guitar but Jarrett hits Snow with the head. Snow gets back up and Snow hits Jarrett with Head while the ref is distracted and gets the three count.
Winner of the Match: Al Snow! Meh. Had some good moves, but it felt like a tv match. Then again I doubt we're going to see any good matches until later on in the PPV. **
'Deadly Game' First Round Match: The Big Bossman vs Stone Cold Steve Austin.
I think the crowd was a bit surprised to be Austin coming out so early. They brawl at ringside and Austin throws Bossman to the steel steps. They enter the ring to start off the match and Austin hits a Lou Thez press then some punches to Bossman. Austin then throws Bossman to the corner and starts the mudhole stomp but Bossman hits a lowblow to Austin then starts the beatdown. Bossman places his foot onto Bossman, then hits a windup uppercut to Austin but only gets two for that. Bossman then gets in a reverse chinlock onto Austin but Austin gets up and elbows Boss in the face then hits a clothesline, then bends down for a back body drop but Bossman kicks him in the face. Austin hangs on the ropes and Bossman goes to ringside and hits an uppercut, Bossman then gets in another reverse chinlock but Austin gets back up and rams Bossman to the corner, hits some trunbuckle thrusts then gets in the mudhole stomp! Bossman then leaves the ring and Austin goes after Bossman but Bossman assaults Austin with the nightstick and gets the DQ
Winner via DQ: Austin! Fuck me and fuck these short matches! *3/4 because of the DQ finish and time wasting on Bossman trying to act important by stalling during each of his strikes.
Backstage Austin gives off a promo and says that Austin may have advanced, but the night is young. Yikes even the promos are shortened!
'Deadly Game' First Round Match: WWF European Champion X-Pac vs Steven Regal
Haha I never seen Regal and his 'Real Man' gimmick before. Kinda like it. Lockup happens and Regal gets in a headlock then punches Pac and Pac flips over Reagal and kicsk him in the face. X-Pac then hits a back suplex but only gets a two count! Pac then gets in some quick running legdrops, but misses a bronco buster at the corner and Regal hits an uppercut then applies an abdominal stretch! Regal takes down Pac with an uppercut then knees him in the face, then a snapmere and a knee drop. Regal misses a charge and Pac goes in for a sunset flip but Regal counters with a catapult! Oh wow that was pretty cool. Regal then gets in a cross double armlock of some sort but Pac is back on his feet but Regal kicks down Pac again, then gets in another armlock. Regal then hits a gutwretch suplex and then gets in a headscissor's submission onto X-Pac. X-Pac counters with a nice counter submission to the leg and Pac gets in some nice kicks, but misses another corner charge. Regal then throws Pac onto the top rope then hits a super double underhook suplex from the top rope but only gets a two count for that! Armlock to X-Pac. Regal then hits another uppercut then throws X-pac to the ropes but Pac hits a spinning wheel kick, then gets in the Brocho Buster! X-Pac then gets in a suplex and climbs the ropes but Regal shakes the ropes and X-Pac crashes onto the ropes and falls to ringside. Pac hits a suplex to the outside and already they've gone past ten minutes already. Sgt. Slaughter is sent out and tells Finkle that the match is going 5 minutes overtime. X-Pac is already at the lockeroom though but Regal goes back to get him. I guess a double countout happens and Austin gets a bye. Hmm. Also according to Wikipedia this match only went around 9 minutes so no matches have even broke the 10 minute mark yet.
Match is resulted in a double countout: Match was solid, but the ending was fucked up. **1/2
'Deadly Game' First Round Match: WWF Intercontinental Champion Ken Shamrock vs Goldust
Shamrock hits some strikes to Goldust then hits a flying elbow, then a body slam to Goldust. Shamrock stomps onto Goldust then hits some stomps onto Goldust. Goldust hits some kicks himself but Shamrock ducks a clothsline and kicks Goldust down but Godust hits a clothesline, then a body slam and a knee drop. Goldust hits some corner shots but Shamrock gets a clothesline into Goldust. Goldust gets kicked in the face then the chinlock is applied to Goldust, but Shamrock lets go of it and kicks Goldust in the chest hard. Shamrock hits the Russian leg sweep but Goldust kicks out still. Goldust gets hit with a chinlock but Shamrock kicks Goldust in the face, then goes for the suplex but Goldust counters with his own suplex onto Shamrock, but Shamrock no sells it and Goldust goes for a monkey flip but Shamrock lands on his feet, however Goldust hits a nice drop toe hold then goes for the powerbomb but Shamrock hits some punches to the face and knocks him down. Goldust hits the bulldog then goes for the Shatter Dreams but the ref stops Goldust but Shamrock hits the hurricarana then hits the belly to belly suplex and then gets in the Ankle lock and gets the win
Winner of the match: Ken Shamrock! It was alright. Got real slow at the end. *3/4
Michael Cole is backstage and says that Stone Cold has refused medical attention and wants to fight in the tournament still.
'Deadly Game' First Round Match: The Rock vs Triple H
Aww they're only giving this shit under 10 minutes? Oh maybe not because Pat Patterson and Gerold Briscoe are in the ring and says that Triple H is not here tonight. Bullshit! Patterson says that Bossman is the replacement for The Rock... The Big Bossman. Annnd I'm done. The Rock sees Bossman coming in so Rock gets in a small package and gets the small package for the 3 Count! Fuck yes not they're not wasting any time for this fucking match! Onto the semi-final matchups, which are now getting a 15 time limit.
'Deadly Game' Quarterfinal Match: The Undertaker vs Kane
Undertaker is using Ministry of Darkness theme song! Man this match better get some decent time. Taker is attacking kane with some shots to the corner but Kane elbows Taker in the face then brings him to the corner and gets in some shots of his own. Kane sees Taker running up so Kane boots him in the face then clotheslines him out of the ring but Taker lands on his face. They are brawling outside with Kane hitting an uppercut then smashing Taker on the security railing then stomps onto Kane. Taker throws Kane onto teh steel steps then kicks him in the gut and now they are in the ring. Taker hits a big boot to Kane then throws Kane to the corner, then scares away the referee and hits more strikes to Kane. Taker then charges at Taker and Kane hits a powerslam but misses a legdrop. Kane goes for a corner charge but Taker boots Kane in the face then tries to bend the knee of Kane. Taker goes for a submission but Kane shoves Taker away from his face, then stomps onto Kane and Kane tries to get away but Taker smashes Kane on the turnbuckles and starts to choke him. Taker hits the uppercut but Kane is no selling the attacks now, Taker is still trying though. Kane whips Taker to the corner and then hits a clothesline to the corner, then climbs the ropes and hits a diving clothesline but still only gets two! They exchange blows now and they get each other in for The Chokeslam and Kane ends up Chokeslaming Taker to the ground. Kane gets distracted from Bearer and Taker hits the Tombstone and Taker gets the three count right there!
Winner of the match: Undertaker. Not their best encounter. Too short of time but that applies for all of them really. **1/2
'Deadly Game' Quarterfinal Match: Mankind vs Al Snow
They brawl in the ring to start off the match, Snow choking out Mankind throughout the ring. Snow then hits a clothesline but Mankid gets back up, but Snow gets dropkicked out of the ring. Mankind goes for a chair but Snow catches it and hits Mankind in the gut a couple of times but misses a huge chair shot. Snow goes for a dive off the security barrier but Mankind punches him in the stomach, then hits a flapjack onto the chair at ringside! Mankind is in the ring and Mankind hits some punches to Snow but Snow hits an enzuirigri to Mankind. Snow is about to use Head but Foley hits a back suplex. Mankind is up and hits a DDT onto Snow then gets the Mandible Claw with Mr. Socko and gets the win!
Winner of the match: Mankind! A few hardcore spots but that doesn't cut it to make this match aweome. **
'Deadly Game' Quarterfinal Match: Ken Shamrock vs The Rock
They start off with some quick punches to Shamrock and a clotheslines him but Shamrock kicks down Rock. Rock fights back and punches down Ken and chokes him using the ropes, but Shamrock throws Rock to the corner and hits some stomps. Rock is back up and throws Ken to ringside and throws him onto the announcer's table, then beats him down but Shamrock throws Rock to the steel steps. Shamrock then body slams Rock onto the floor at ringside then tosses him back inside the ring. Shamrock hits some more strikes then dropkicks Rock to the ground. Shamrock hits the Russian leg sweep but only gets two for that. Shamrock then holds Rock tight and nails some knees, then a running knee to the face and takes down Rock. Rock then gets applies with a reverse chinlock but Rock fights back with some punches, however Shamrock hits an elbow to the face. Bossman is back at ringside and moves around the ring. Rock is fainting from the reverse chinlock. Rock almost faints but Rock is back up and hits some more strikes but Shamrock hits a dropkick, then a drop toe hold but gets in the Ankle Lock! Shamrock then goes for the Rock Bottom but Shamrock counters that to the belly to belly suplex. Bossman then tosses Shamrock the nightstick for him to use but Rock grabs it instead and hits Shamrock with the stick and gets the pin right there!
Winner of the match: The Rock! Probably one of the better matches so far at this PPV. Either a good TV match or mid-card PPV match. **3/4
After a quick promo featuring Paul Bearer, we're taking a break from the tournament and we're going to feature one of the two non PPV matches of the night!
WWF Women's Championship Match: Sable vs Jacqueline(c) w/ Marc Mero
Jacqueline attacks Sable at the start and yells at her while kicking her in the ribs. Jacquline then goes for a hip toss but Sable counters with her own hip toss, then hits a back kick to the face of Jacqueline then goes for the TKO and goes for the pin but Mero pulls her to ringside. Sable then low blows Mero then hits a nice powerbomb to the floor at ringside! Oh shit that was pretty solid! Jacqueline comes up behind Sable and knocks her down again and throws her back inside. Jacqueline has some of Sable's hair that she cut earlier and chokes her on the ropes. Sable gets thrown to the corner and Jacqueline uses her kicks onto the ribs then goes for a Tornado DDT from the ropes but Sable throws her off the ropes, then hits the Sable Bomb and gets the win!
Winner and NEW WWF Women's Champion: Sable! Meh. *
'Deadly Game' Semifinal Match: Mankind vs Stone Cold
These matches are now going to have a 20 minute time limit, hopefully we get PPV Quality matches from here on in. Austin and Mankind both brawl to start off, Austin hitting some stomps at the corner then clotheslines him to the ground. Mankind is places onto the ropes and Austin jumps onto Mankind, and now McMahon and Co. are at ringside. Austin is down and Mankind is choking Austin, then places him at the corner and holds him in place. Mankind then backs up and runs up to Austin and takes him down! Austin dodges a clothesline then hits a Lou Thez press and then some punches, then hits an axe handle elblow drop and goes for a Stunner but Mankind exits the ring and runs up to McMahon's entourage. Mankind brings Austin to ringside and throws him onto the steel steps, then enters the ring and tries to count out austin but Mankind leaves the ring and throws Austin onto the crowd area but Austin clotheslines Mankind back to ringside. Mankind though slams Austin onto the steel steps then throws Austin back inside the ring and applies a chinlock to Austin. Mankind and Austin are back up and Austin hits some elbows to the gut, then runs up to Mankind but they go down with a double clothesline. I swore this spot happens in every other match. Austin is back up and gets thrown to the corner but he turns around and clotheslines Mankind to the ground, then throws Mankind to the corner and hits them mudhole stomp. Mankind is outside the ring and grabs a steel chair, then enters the ring and runs up to Austin but Austin kicks the chair onto Mankind's face but Austin misses another charge and bounces off the ropes, Mankind hitting a DDT onto the chair but only gets two! Mankind then goes for a piledrier onto the chair but Ausitn counters that with a backdrop onto the chair. Austin then hits the Stone Cold Stunner but McMahon runs into the ring (omgz wat a faker!) and punches the referee in the face. Him and Slaughter are kicking down the referee and Mankind's pants have dropped (revealing his brown pants, relax people) and gets the Mandible Claw in but Austin hits the Stone Cold Stunner, and Shane McMahon comes down with the referee's outfit and starts the out but stops at 2, then gives Austin then middle fingers and bails from the ring before Austin can attack him! Oh shit Austin's reaction was gold! Mankid takes down Austin with a clothesline and Briscoe hits a chair shot to Austin's face and Mankind covers Austin with Shane doing the pin!
Winner of the match: Mankind! Almost two hours into this shit and we finally a match that went over the 10 minute mark... by 20 seconds lol. This is also the first match that was PPV quality. Now was it perfect? Not by a long shot, but I'll take what I can get at this point. ***
The McMahons and Co. leave the arena from the limo and leave the arena, then Austin carjacks a truck from some poor bastard and goes after the McMahon limo.
'Deadly Game' Semifinal Match: The Rock vs The Undertaker
Not often we see these two go at it, so I'm going to enjoy this. The Rock and Undertaker both trade blow at the start and Rock brings Taker to the corner, but Rock misses a corner charge at Taker brings Rock to ringside then slams him onto the steel steps. Taker walks up to Rock but Rock throws Taker around at ringside, then goes to run at Taker but Taker hits a clothesline. Taker then headbutts Rock then throws him back inside the ring. Taker hits an uppercut and goes for the cover but only gets a two count. Taker throws Rock to the corner but Rock boots Taker in the face then clotheslines him to the ground, then punches him down but Taker elbows Rock in the face. Taker goes down and chokes down The Rock, Taker then traps Rock through the ropes and strikes down Rock hard. Rock escapes and back drops Undertaker to ringside then stomps him down. Rock smashes Taker onto the announce table then clotheslines him into the crowd area, and they exchange blows. Bearer gives off a funny look to the referee and threatens to whip him hard and the two participants are back inside the ring. Rock is down and Taker gets lectured by the ref, and Bearer attacks Rock with his shoe. Taker goes for a corner charge but Rock moves out of the way, and now both men exchange punches and Rock gets thrown around but Rock hits the Samoan Drop! Bossman then makes his fourth apperance in the tourament (guess he didn't go in the limo with the McMahons and Rock hits the DDT, then mocks Bossman. Rock then hits the body slam onto Undertaker but Bossman tries to trip Rock, Rock yells at Bossman and Undertaker sits up and clotheslines Rock to the ground. Rock takes down Taker with a shoulder block but Taker grabs Rock by the throat but Kane comes in and Chokeslams The Rock into the ground, and Kane gets Taker DQ'ed!
Winner of the match via DQ: The Rock! Match was pretty slow, not going to lie. It picked up a little when Bossman came out (oddly enough), but when Kane came out and caused the DQ is what made this match become 'meh' again. **
Michael Cole is backstage with Mankind, who is now wearing another suit, and Mankind says that he has one more Rock to climb, and if everyone knows what The Sock is cooking. His face is what made that 10 second promo great.
Triple Threat Match for the WWF Tag Team Championship: New Age Outlaws(c) vs The Headbangers vs D'Lo Brown vs Mark Henry
Aww they couldn't have made this an elimination tag team match to somewhat keep up with the Survivor Series tradtion? I guess there's going to be one of each man in the ring to start like how a normal triple threat match works.Boo! Gunn and Brown and Mosh are starting off the match and Gunn hits a clothesline but misses a knee drop, but Brown hits a clothesline onto Gunn but Thrash is in and attacks Gunn. Mosh takes oout Brown then knocks him out of the ring and hits a springboard crossbody, then Dogg comes in and attacks Brown while Gunn goes after Henry. They then do the 10 punches but Brown stops Dogg and hits a sitout powerbomb, now Headbangers are ganging up to Brown and hits a double flapjack. Brown has to come in to make sure there's no pin. Brown holds Dogg from behind and Mosh attacks Dogg with some kicks, now Henry is in the ring and gets in a bearhug but Mosh attacks Henry and attacks his knees, now Thrash is tagged in the ring and they gangbeat Dogg. Dogg makes a come back but Mosh hits a clothesline, but Brown makes the save and Brown goes for a powerbomb but Mosh gets in a rollup but only gets a two count! Dogg is back in the ring but Henry gets tagged in and Dogg gets hit with a legdrop but Mosh breaks it up. Thrash is tagged in and Gunn tries to get involved but gets taged back to the ring. Brown tries to go for a tag team move with Thrash but Trash betrays Brown and low blows him, then Headbangers all tag team on Dogg but Brown comes in and Brown body slams Thrash. Thrash hits a jumpng headbut to Brown and Dogg gets the hot tag in Gunn and Gunn takes out everyone involved in the match! Gunn runs up though and Brown hits a sitout powerbomb but Thrash breaks the cover. Dogg and Henry are brawling at ringside with Mosh and Gunn hits the Fame-Asser onto Thrash, then Henry hits the Splash onto Thrash, and everyone clears the ring for some reason and Gunn gets the piledriver onto Thrash and gets the pin!
Winners of the match and STILL Tag Team Champions: New Age Outlaws! Wow this was pretty clustered. I've always wanted to see a Triple Threat Tag Team match where each member of one team is legal in the match, but honestly it wasn't good at all. *1/2.
'Deadly Game' Tournament Finals Match: Mankind vs The Rock
And it's time Ladies and Gentleman. Oh look at that The Rock comes in and hits the Rock Bottom and wins the whole tournament after a 2 seconds!! BULLFUCKINGSHIT!!!!
Naw just kidding folks. During The Rock's Entrance The McMahon's are back at the arena and Shane and Vince both tell Bossman that they want to personally take care of this match. Also Shane is wearing the referee's shirt still. Foreshadowing ftw! Alright Mankind and Rock both get into a lockup to start off the match. Rock shoves away Mankind and both men look at each other, and now they both look at each other again and kicks Mankind in the stomach then beats him down at the corner. The Rock takes down Mankind and The Rock strikes Mankind in the face some more. Both men are at ringside now and Mankind sends Rock to the steep steps. Mankind then throws Rock back into the ring and applies a sleeper hold onto Mankind. Rock struggles to fight out of it but Mankind has Rock trapped. Now the McMahons are coming back to ringside watching the match. The Rock is up and its a back suplex onto Mankind, now both men are up but Rock punches Mankind to ringside. Mankind grabs a hold of the Rock and goes for a suplex but Rock blocks it and hits his own suplex instead! Mankind and Rock are chasing each other around the ring and Rock tosses Mankind over the barricade. Rock and Mankind are both fighing in the crowd area, then The Rock and Mankind are back in the ring. The Rock gets in his own sleeper hold onto Mankind and now the McMahons are clearly plotting something from ringside. Mankind is back on his feet and punches Rock on the back but The Rock fights back, but Mankind knees him in the stomach and Rock goes down. Mankind headbutts to Rocky then clotheslines him to ringside. Mankind then grabs the chair and attacks Rock with the chair to the back! Mankind then grabs the steel steps and goes to face THe Rock but Rock smashes the steel chair onto the steps, the steps colliding with Mankind's face! Oh shit listen to the crowd's reaction to that! the Rock then grabs the chair and smokes Mankind in the face, then throws him back inside the ring. Mankind is tagged from the Rock but Mankind low blows Rock and Rock rolls to the ropes, Mankind then chokes out The Rock! The Rock is laying at ringside and Mankind jumps off the apron and hits an elbow drop, then throws him onto the announcers table and breaks it apart. Mankind and The Rock are laying on the table and The Rock gets thrown off the table and fallen right in front of JR and Lawler. Mankind then throws Rock into the center of the ring but only gets the two count after covering the shoulders! The Rock punches Mankind in the face and Mankind sees Rock charging, Mankind though tosses Rock out of the ring. Mankind throws Rock back in the ring and Mankind goes to charge after Mankind again but Rock hits a DDT onto Mankind! Both men are down now and Rock kicks Mankind in the face but Mankind once again throws Rock out of the ring. Rock is leaning on the announcer's table and Mankind climbs the ropes, then goes for an elbow drop but Rock dodges and Mankind goes through the table! The Rock throws Mankind back inside the ring, then takes him down with a body slam and hits The People's Elbow but only gets the two count for that! Rock misses a clothesline and Mankind hits the Double Underhook DDT, then gets on Mr. Socko and gets Rock into the Mandible Claw! The Rock is on his knees and is fainting from the Mandile Claw but The Rock is fighting back and hits the Rock Bottom onto Mankind! Both men are down and The McMahons are getting worried. The Rock slowly goes for the cover but STILL only gets two. Rock gets up and eyes The McMahons and applies The Sharpshooter onto Mankind, Mankind doesn't tap but McMahon calls for the bell anyways. The Rock was with The McMahons the entire time? Whaaaaat? Swerve!!
Winner and NEW WWF Champion... THE ROCK! Finally a PPV worthy match that's actually good! Keyword: good. A brawl all around and the crowd was really into it. A little nice swerve at the end which allowed him to claim the WWF Championship! Not going to lie I was expecting a shitload of interferance, but I'm glad that didn't happen. Match would've been raised higher but it was an eye roller that they reenacted the Monteral Screwjob for this match. ***1/2
Post Match: Vince comes into the ring and says that The Rock didn't screw the people, the people screwed the people. Adding salt to the still open wound eh Vince? He calls them gullible and Mankind looks dissapointed, and says that tonight is a good night because Austin got royally screwed in that very ring. And just like Rock's 2003 heel run, then fans cheered for Rock when he insulted them. Mankind claims he doesn't understand and The Rock attacks him from behind, then hits The Rock Bottom onto Mankind. Shane presents the crowd the Coporate Champion The Rock and the crowd is giving off a mixed reaction from the crowd. But they cheer once The Rock comes down the ring and Austin looks pissed. Austin runs down the ring and Austin attacks The Rock. The McMahons bail from the ring and Austin brawls with Rock, hits the Stunner and throws Rock out of the ring. Rock grabs the belt and throws it on top of Rock and gives Mankind the Stunner because he can. Austin enters the ring again and hits the mudhole stomp onto Rock at ringside. Austin then leaves the ring and walks up the ramp. Rock and Shane are in the ring to end the show.
Closing comments: This kinda reminded me of the Gold Rush tournament that happened on RAW in 2005. It was a terrible PPV except for the Main event, but ultimately this felt like a big episode of RAW. I'm glad that the WWF tried to take a different approach for Survivor Series to keep things interesting but obviously this didn't work out as expected. Now believe or not this did get a nice buyrate of 477,839 compared to last year of 320,723, but that being said every PPV in 1998 had a bigger buyrate than in 1997. Still this was my least favourite Survivor Series that I've watched so far while doing this review.
Holy Jesus am I reading this write? A 'Deadly Game' Tournament is being placed at the PPV, which interesting enough includes 14 matches!!!

X-Pac then hits a back suplex but only gets a two count!

Aww they couldn't have made this an elimination tag team match to somewhat keep up with the Survivor Series tradtion? Winners of the match and STILL Tag Team Champions: New Age Outlaws! Wow this was pretty clustered. I've always wanted to see a Triple Threat Tag Team match where each member of one team is legal in the match, but honestly it wasn't good at all. *1/2.
