Serious answer to C.M. Bryan:

It's become more accepted in recent years to see the ref just call for the bell when a guy is "obviously rendered unconscious", particularly when it's not leading to a "comeback spot".

In reality, this is more like real combat sports, which don't give a "raise the hand 3 times" count any longer either. They just call the match when it's obvious one competitor can no longer continue.
