Hilarious flick. Well made old school comedy movie. Ice Cube just seems like such an angry, intense bloke.

Ted

I heard from a lot of people this is an absolute hilarious flick, it wasn't. Still entertaining to watch, I obviously didn't enjoy it as much as others. Wahlberg doesn't suit these types of movies and I couldn't buy his character with a girl like Mia Kunis.

The Prestige

One of my favourite movies of all time. Apart from a couple flaws, this is almost perfect. Brilliant acting, storytelling, Nolan at his finest.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1(DC Animated)

Batman has been retired for 10 years, Commisioner James Gordon is preparing for his retirement, Harvey "Two-Face" Dent has undergone reconstructive surjery to repair the damage to his left side, and The Mutant Gang are taking over the streets of Gotham, and Bruce Wayne cant take it anymore, years of drinking have taken a toll on him, but not nearly as bad as crime has taken its toll on Gotham.

With the exception of Selina being taken out of the story(I am not 100% sure where Superman & Green Arrow turn up, so they might have been missed too) this movie was a perfect recreation of Frank Miller's iconic Dark Knight Returns comic, which remains one of my all time favorite Batman stories.

There are some better Marvel & DC animated movies out there, but there are also alot worse ones.

I'm still waiting for the second part to come out, because I hate seeing to be continued on any movie.

Really enjoyed this movie. Had all the cool action and cleavage scenes you'd expect from a Bond film with a great villain. Javier Bardem should only take lead antagonist roles from now on because he's so good at that. The movie is two hours and twenty minutes, but it didn't feel like it was that long at all, there was never a dull moment, so the movie flew by. Overall, a real good movie that you'll love if you're a Bond fan, and should still enjoy even if you're not.

The Dark Knight Rises

Finally got around to watching this. I was a huge fan of The Dark Knight, that was such a great film with one of the best villains so I had high expectations for this movie. It was good but a little disappointing. The 160 minute run time is too long, they could easily have cut 40 minutes without harming the film at all, it took quite a bit of time to get into the heart of the story. My other negative was Bane's voice, it kept changing, if they could have kept it consistent it would have been better. Overall though I liked the story and the way that they wrapped it up. Bane is a cool villain and I liked the backstory with him. Joseph Gordon Levitt was fantastic and I liked the nod to the other character at the end of the film. Plenty of great action scenes backed with a good closing story means that even though it was a bit long I enjoyed it.

The Jewel of the Nile (1985) 6/10
Functional, yet over cooked follow up to the much more charming Indy piss take which was Romance in the Stone. There are some fun one liners, and effective action sequences, but the pace is sloppy and the fine cast including Danny Devito's entertaining slimeball are given too little to do.

Stardust (2007) 7.5/10
A great fantasy romp, with a finely balanced script getting just the right mix of comedy and adventure. The likes of Claire Danes, Michelle Phiffer, Robert De Niro and Mark Strong are engaging in their respective roles, the effects are wonderful also. I was hooked from start to finish.

The Muppets (2012) 8/10
Even more fun than when I first saw it at the cinema. The songs are cheeky and delightful, the post modern, 80s themed gags are sharp, Amy Adams and Jason Segal are perfectly dry leads, and old madcap fun of the gang never fails to charm. My third favourite Muppets adventure behind Muppets Take Manhattan and Christmas Carol.

Cars (2006) 6/10
Fairly bland Pixar offering, there are some lazy gags, plus visaully there is only so much you can do with Cars. It was enjoyable enough, but felt too cold.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2009) 7.5/10
This original Swedish version is a carefully built and chilling film, the characters have real depth, it is visually gripping and finely acted with good chelmstry between the two leads.

Monsters VS. Aliens (2009) 7/10
Slow moving and slightly over blow in places, but still a charming adventure with a fine vocal performance from Reese Witherspoon. The jokes are pretty solid and there is enough of a moral centre to keep the story interesting. Connect the dots stuff, but fairly enjoyable.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012) 8/10
A sharply written, and believable story of mental illness, and rebuilding your life in a small community. What is really impressive is that such a dark subject matter turns into a such entertaining viewing, with the film finely pitched between comedy and drama, often with the two combined at once. The cast are mostly fantastic, with Jennifer Lawerence again giving a powerful performance which adds so many layers to her character, again she deserves awards recongition. De Niro produces his best performance in over a decade, and Chris Tucker is really suprising too. I believed in the central relationship and the ending was very up lifting. One of the best films I have seen all year.

Bugsy Malore (1976) 7.5/10
This always bares a further viewing as this time of year, just a great feel good romp, with lively songs, and some amusing dialogue. The kids are great too. Revented the musical comedy for a new era.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

A stupid, forget everything you know, action movie. Not a great movie by any means, but some really nice action scenes, and the story is really easy to follow.

Anyone who can sit through a low budget, over the top, and generally comical movie should check this one out, it was a fun watch, but not something I would have spent money on.

This is even worse than I remembered. Empity MTV style take on teen witchcraft, with naff characters, mostly bland performances and some terrible effects. It does have some comedy value, but not much.

Videodrome (1983) ~ A

Shockingly relevant, even today, only if we substitute the television with the internet. Videodrome at first glance may seem like an unrefined B movie, but it is a complex analysis on human nature and consequentially the human psyche itself.

"The television screen is the retina of the mind’s eye. Therefore the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore television is reality. And reality is less than television"

Our perception of reality is for the most part constructed; even if we were to believe in a falsehood and present it as truth, it would not be lying if we believed it..take internet pornography for example. (I make this association because I quit recently) Masturbating to internet pornography is thought of as masturbating. However, there is a complex underlying process here. When we are masturbating, we are unconsciously impregnating a mate who does not exist in reality. This causes the vicious cycle every addict is caught in, where in more dopamine intake leads to less sensitization, making said addict crave for even more dopamine and more buxom, non-existent mates. (Or tobacco, or heroin, or whatever said addict's inebriant of choice is)

Anything BUT a B movie, Videodrome is a complex psychological narrative on modern man's unconscious struggle against being controlled by the outside world, by drugs, and specifically the world of visual communication, and the protagonist's fate is the penultimate answer to the struggle itself. Freud would have LOVED this one. Such a shame he died almost half a century ago.

American Reunion

Having been dissapointed by every American Pie movie since The Naked Mile, I really wasnt expecting much from this one at all. Until Stifler shit in the kids cooler, and from that point on, I couldnt stop laughing. If they never make another movie with the original cast, this was by far the best way to end the series, but it was left open ended enough to do another. Jim's Dad & Stifler's Mom remain as 2 of my favorite characters, so it was nice to see the few scenes where the 2 of them finally interacted with one another. It delivers on everything you would expect from an American Pie movie, half naked women, crude humour, sex, drugs, & alcohol.

For a comedy, this one was probably the best main stream I have seen in a long while, 7/10.

Great review and I agree it is one of my favourites too.

Been watching a fair bit lately.

Project X - 7/10

Just a fun, entertaining movie that makes you want to instantly party after watching it. Some genuinely funny moments and surprisingly realistic in a way.

Zodiac - 7/10

An interesting one here. Whilst the first 1/3 of the movie was extremely entertaining, the rest of the movie is slow and sort of a grind to get through. The fact that this movie is accurate and based on a true story makes it easier to watch and also makes the premise of the movie so much more interesting. The movie will keep you guessing, and occasionally leave you lost and confused. Obviously the movie is limited as it's based on historical facts and events, but some scenes in the movie are some of the most eerie and intense I've ever seen. The fact that nobody will ever know who the Zodiac is from hard evidence is creepy as fuck.

X-Men - 6/10

Decent superhero movie. Certainly not anything special but still an okay watch. Hugh Jackman is the standout in this movie and nobody else really stands out. I am interested in checking out the rest of the X-Men movies though after watching this.
