A positive to take from this PPV is that it humanizes Ryback in a way. Having him lose (although dirty) takes a way the invincibility feeling and the streak from him before it becomes too big and too important a part of his character. The main character in wrestling that Ryback has been compared to is Goldberg, most on here can agree that it was when Goldberg started losing that his career went down hill. This was mostly because the streak was such a big part of who Godlberg was. Having Ryback drop his early on saves him in the long run.

Yes, this. Now he can stop being the undefeated guy and start being the general ass kicking guy... Which is what the WWE really needs right now.

WWE has a history of putting guys over that can't wrestle. Ultimate Warrior would be a good example. It's about wrestling for me guys and i really enjoy the stuff and hate to see guys like ryback get pushed because of a "great story." How awesome would it be to actually see the two best wrestlers in the wwe fight for the belt? Silly me

Bringing in some things I said in the discussion thread here too.

Thing is Ryan Reeves, the guy playing Ryback can wrestle. What he needs to do is develop his style more so it isn't just a spotfest consisting of power moves. He needs to fill out his moveset more so he can work inbetween the spots. As Seabs pointed out in a 7-10 minute match he works better (look up some of his live show or NXT work). I think in a way the Cell was part in making this match worse than it could have been since it requires a certain kind of match. Something Ryback at this moment in his career cannot deliver and Punk cannot coax out of him.

But wrestling is about telling a great story in the ring (by that I mean the ring psychology, not the talking). It's what makes matches more memorable. That's what makes a good wrestler imo.

(But I agree, Ryback is nowhere near ready)

I understand completely and if that's true then I hope he proves me wrong. No way in hell should he be main eventing a PPV though. I love the wwe and think they have great talent. I'd just love to guys get some better recognition before ryback. Ziggler/sandow/rhodes/bryan. That's my short list of guys that I'd have preferred in a feud with punk for wrestling purposes

This is the most concerning thing for me currently, Punk for all our griping at Randy has to be in the top 3 heel workers currently in the company IMO and a well known ring general. If he couldn't pull something passable out with Ryback who could currently? He needs to work the longer matches to learn but he needs someone to guide him, all I can think of is an extended program with Punk, Bryan or Ziggler. Possibly Hero if they really reach.

To each his own. I understand your view on it and i'm just really into the in ring aspect.

Honestly though. Could we really expect a stellar ppv main event that was so hastily put together? Everyone and their mother knows that Ryback was pushed into this situation due to Cena's injury and him being the only big face (or big face in the making) that was free. They couldn't exactly uproot guys like Orton, Bryan, Kane, Show or Sheamus from their already set feuds. They had to roll the dies with Ryback and they did. Now they know what to work with on him and it will all come out for the better

Actually this makes a lot of sense in retrospect. Good post man.

... But me too. Where in that post did I even say anything that doesn't mean I'm into the in ring aspect of wrestling? :pity:

Story telling, as in the ring work. As in not glorified spot fests but matches that tell a deep story.

I honestly don't really care about the mic talking that much unless it really adds to the feud. For example, the Punk/Cena at MITB last year. If it wasn't for all the hype building up to that, the match wouldn't of been as great as it was.
