Courtant Blogs and Politico both report that WWE is removing Attitude era footage from their website and mobile platforms.

They released a statement through WWE spokesman Brian Flinn, who said: "Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company."

They claim this is not in response to recent attack ads against former WWE CEO Linda McMahon during her campaign. Flinn added: "For years WWE has produced programming that is rated PG in primetime, and most recently rated G on Saturday mornings. To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms."

It should be noted that WWE has been extensively promoting the video game WWE 13, which is all about the Attitude Era.

...and people continue to defend the WWE.

I don't think it could be any clearer at this point that WWE only cares about Linda McMahon's campaign.

This is just insane. I've been searching for a lot of videos from the Attitude Era lately and 75% of them are taken down. Matches and everything. I can't even find little things like the Chyna vs Chris Jericho feud or the RTC titantron which was actually against the Attitude Era it's self... so pointless and just annoying. Especially when they have an Attitude Era game coming out! How are people supposed to learn about the era and get interested in your game now? Dailymotion is starting to become my new video service for this stuff, hopefully they don't hit that too!

Are you talking about the "Official WWE YouTube" page? I can find random AE stuff all over YT.

For instance the greatest WrestleMania hype package of all-time and one of the last great 'Manias IMHO:

Thank God that's still there! Whenever I search for random Attitude Era promos it's just the video, you click it, it tells you it's been taken down.

To be fair, the WWE could remove any copywrite videos at any time before this. So nothing has really changed.

True and that certainly applies to anything current too.

But it is a pretty lame duck move to pretend a peak period didn't exist for political reasons.

But they're not pretending it didn't exist...

Hell, the WWE has a video game and a DVD based on the Attitude Era coming before the end of the year. They just opted to make it a little more difficult for Linda McMahon's opposition to point at a WWE product that no longer reflects how the company handles things as a tool to hurt McMahon's chances. I'll be surprised if the WWE doesn't re-add the Attitude Era footage (At least the stuff they had originally uploaded) after November.

- According to WWE spokesman Brian Flinn, the majority of the new Attitude Era DVD that the company will release is set to be rated PG. Flinn stated that while some of the edgier content has been rated TV-14 for the release, the majority of the material is "TV-PG."

So basically we're gonna get an Attitude era DVD with loads of content missing. Cool.
