So after having a mad experience a few months back where I started actually drowning in my dream for the first time and I couldn't wake up and when I did I violently shook I started to learn more about my sleep.

I read about sleep paralysis and knew that this experience more than likely wasn't it. However, for about 2 months or so I have been getting sleep paralysis. It usually happens when I am waking from a nap or when going to sleep (the state where you're drifting off then suddenly wake up, but instead of waking up straight away i am paralysed kinda.

First off when I got it I was very scared. I wasn't to sure what it was and thought holy fuck im gonna be like this for the rest of my life. But then when I fought it of and came around fine, I realized that it was sleep paralysis like I had read up on. So I reassured myself that it was fine.

However, the feeling is so wierd. You are like awake in the mind and know you want to wake up but your body is kinda shut down. I keep having spells where I don't get it then I do it's not like a constant occurrence. It's not hard to get out of usually but can be very scary at times when you think you can't break out of it and just want to wake up. I have learnt to deal with it but it is still very scary me and can put me off going to sleep sometimes, especially just after a spell of it.

I was just wondering if anyone else, has had or has sleep paralysis.

More information can be found on it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

Know exactly what it is because I've had it many times over the past few months. Almost nightly.

I fall asleep, wake up not long after and am unable to move. Often takes a couple of minutes of attempting to move before I can actually do so again.

Happens most often when I fall asleep on my back, though sometimes I've had it when sleeping on my front or side. It's creepy because when I wake up I often think someone is in my room, and when you're paralyzed, you can't do anything about it.

It seems to be a result of fatigue. It always seem to happen after I've been up late watching a WWE PPV, UFC PPV, etc.

Yeah it really is one crazy experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Oddly enough I've read that sleeping on your back can bring it on more and the last few times, that's how i've kinda been just sat on the sofa. And yeah same for me sleeping then not long after waking up. I don't mind it but I hope there is a cure because I read it can be harmful in later life.

I have had it a couple of times and it is a really wierd experience. You try to move but nothing happens. Had it once where I was sleeping face down and I woke up and couldn't move but normally it is when I sleep on my back.

I swear as a little kid I would have this for a while. Like maybe when I was 7-8, I would wake up like earlier in the morning, and for like 2 minutes, or so it seemed, I would just be paralysed. I remember it would be weird. Also, I remember being face down, and not being able to breath during it, and I seemed to push through it and I woke up. It's so scary though.
