Fuwawa Abyssgard vs. Mococo Abyssgard
for the Donut

【FUWAMOCO 3D DEBUT】BAU BAU and BEYOND - August 11, 2024

This is a bit unusual, I know, but I'm going to review a match that happened TODAY! At least, today Japan time, because both competitors are based in Japan. It got some rave reviews on the "R" site so let's see what it's about. A battle of sister against sister, blue vs. pink, fluffy vs. fuzzy, for the prized donut! Feel free to watch along with me!

This must have been one of those BJW/IWA Japan outdoor deathmatches, because we're in a magic circle in the street. And the special guest referee is a floating dog blob thing called Pero! Let's home he calls things down the middle. They start by promoing on each other, explaining why they need the donut. No messing around after the bell rings, straight into the lock-up and they tire themselves out. Second lock-up, and Mococo establishes a hammerlock which Fuwawa reverses, and then Mococo un-reverses. Fuwawa elbows out and then does some pretty stiff kicks. She hits an elbow drop for two, a pin which Pero counts even though Mococo's shoulders were visibly up. Biased referee much?

Fuwawa goes for a foreign object, specifically a mallet. "NOOOO FUWAWA THIS ISN'T YOU" -ref for Seth vs. Fiend, watching this. Mococo runs away, but trips, and gets the full strength of the mallet. I'm guessing Fuwawa's the heel here, as she offers Mococo a helping hand back up, then immediately turns it into a standing surfboard! Mococo's trying to get out, but that previous arm work has had its desired effect. She can't reverse it, and Fuwawa just leaves her as a heap on the ground. After Mococo gets back up, Fuwawa goes for more stiff kicks, but Mococo catches and gets a DRAGONSCREW LEG WHIP! And then she LOCKS IN THE STF! She doesn't even link her arms, but it looks more credible than John Cena's. Fuwawa escapes by using the mallet.

Big double down. Mococo gets up first, and unleashes the Mongolian chops to down Fuwawa for two. She teases an Iron Claw, but Fuwawa ducks and goes for a chair! Mococo has the mallet now, and it's a WEAPON LIGHTSABER DUEL! Fuwawa knocks the mallet out of Mococo's hands and smashes her sister with the chair! Rainmaker pose for good measure! She's trying to get Mococo over for a German suplex... but when Mococo escapes, she tries a Rainmaker! Mococo ducks and puts on the Iron Claw! She then transitions it into a slam for two... wait, that's Great-O-Khan's move! Claw back on, she bends Fuwawa over her knee! OOZORA-STYLE SHEEP KILLER!!! Fuwawa has no choice but to tap, and Mococo gets the donut! There's a sign of respect between the two sisters (and Fuwawa says an unintelligible embarrassing line).

Wrestling is fun. VTubers are fun.

Masakatsu Funaki vs. Tatsuo Nakano
UWF Fighting Square Hakata - July 24, 1989

Watching this on a whim because I've heard good things. This is notable as the first match I've reviewed that takes place at Hakata Starlanes, without a doubt the greatest bowling alley in wrestling history. This was a huge wrestling hotbed back in the day, and we get a bit of shoot style here featuring the slightly more badass guy called Funaki! Let's get into it.

Acoustics must be great, because I feel how molten the crowd is for this. Funaki offers a Code of Honour but Nakano just kicks it away and they start slapping each other about. Just palms flying everywhere. Scrambling on the mat too. Nakano is the babyface here. Funaki tries to get a cross-arm breaker but it's not working out. He still has a headscissors on though so that's something. Nakano seems to be going for a double-arm DDT but Funaki counters by dropping right down on him. He then tries a dragonscrew leg whip but Funaki just stands his ground. This is REAL FIGHTING motherfuckers!

Headbutts open Nakano's nose right up. Nakano does a few knees to the head and on comes a headlock, wrenching the arm too. Then the momentum kind of dies a bit because a medic comes in to check Nakano's okay. He's okay though! Mat scramble sees both guys trying to wrench each other's legs in their own way. I'm guessing this is a rest hold. Way better than a chinlock. Nakano fights up to a big pop and kicks Funaki right in the head and Funaki tries to stumble up but flops. This is why shoot style is great. It's got the hard hitting stuff but it's also got Pro Wrestling! This is the first down, apparently, and Funaki stands up after a count of nine.

Now Nakano's totally on top, trying to bend Funaki's arm out of shape. Funaki eventually recovers, gets his leg caught, but comes out on top by STOMPING NAKANO IN THE FACE! Nakano soon gets a headlock on but Funaki gets a big roundhouse kick (really wrapping his leg around his opponent) before a deadlift back suplex gets Nakano down for six. Single leg Boston crab and the fans are absolutely dying for Nakano to fight out of it. He gets a rope break. Were there limited rope breaks in UWF rules? Medical staff back in, this time with a towel. Nakano's waving them off. He gets some knees from Funaki but rips out some BIG kicks that bring the man in green down for a count of eight.

Snap suplex by Nakano! That apparently doesn't count as a down. Funaki's smacking away, catches a kick by Nakano but ends up taking a few more hard ones. He's arse over tit in the corner and is down for seven. When he gets up, he walks right into more offence, a German suplex, and a single leg Boston crab! When Funaki gets up, he eats some more kicks, but grabs both legs and cracks out a ROLLING ALABAMA SLAM! That's awesome. A high elevation crab, this time with both legs (somewhere Chris Jericho watches and learns) causes the ref to stop the match and award it to Funaki. Nakano clearly isn't happy with this decision but he's got to go and the crowd is fully behind FU-NA-KI.

That was so cool. Funaki sells like a maniac, these kicks are so stiff, it's still the early days of shoot style so it's more pro wrestling-y which is better. I've got to see more of these guys.
