Shutting down legitimate discussion

I was warned. I stopped. Civil discussion began again and then it was shut down for discussing something that Hollywood didn't like.

Seriously, his exact words for why he closed it down are quoted in my above post. It had nothing to do with flaming. Please try reading.

Naming and shaming isn't a friendly way to mod and I have been apart of forums where trolls take over and use that kind of method to their advantage. It isn't pretty and the whole site becomes a walking rant section which is the worst thing a thriving forum needs.

I would give my left nut for something like Hell in a Thread to be opened here.

And naming and shaming works. It forces people to take responsibility for their decisions.

It also leads to elitism to the people who have a bunch of people on their side to flame other members. It pretty much kills anybody coming into the site who comes in with an opinion you don't agree with. I'm now going to go out a limb and say that is why IWF is now dead.

Actually IWF died after someone tried to take Hell in a Thread away from us. Many members left and then never came back. We got HiaT back eventually but at that point it was too late.

Trolls do tend to lose interest when they can't flame other members without consequence. I don't think I'd support those people. This site is fun and free and thriving in 2013 when wrestling forums are dying everywhere. I think we are doing something right with our niche community.

Anytime you have a site with about 8 members who only post, is going to become just one giant circle jerk and anybody who joins is immediately run off, leaving the admins and smods wondering how thye can attract new members. I've seen it kill the forums I cut my teeth on.

Kind of looks like you're still looking for a fight really. I guess Prime saw that and didn't want the situation to escalate again when KIF didn't give you the evidence you're looking for.

I was looking for him to back up his statements. If he doesn't want to be called out on his bullshit then he shouldn't spout off said bullshit.

That's fine. Different strokes for different folks and I can dig that in this case. Calling us trolls though is definitely a short cut to thinking.

We were certainly not a circle jerk. We never treated anyone any way that we wouldn't have been okay with ourselves and on top of that we went at each other a lot harder than we went on anyone else. With one or two exceptions of course but they had it coming.

Oops, forgot to respond to this part.

The problem is that the warning came down and that was chill. Then it was shut down for no good reason. Nothing untoward whatsoever happened after the warning.

I know that, it's not just me that I'm defending there though.

And uhh, the less we say about the latter part of your post the better. I'd rather avoid rehashing but I was definitely what you would perceive to be the force of forum evil.

Well, right on. If that makes you happy then congratulations.

Personally, I feel restrained. I miss having a section where I can say whatever the hell I want to with other consenting members. It's cathartic.

However, I am doing my best to be a good little boy.

Now, bringing this all back around. I accept responsibility for being aggressive. That's cool, I haven't denied that. But that's not why he closed the thread. Personally, I'd rather eat a short ban than have a discussion shut down for a stupid reason.
