I always seen Twitter as a place of toxicity. We shouldn't allow links, but screenshots are fine.

Been trying to figure out how to word this.

I certainly feel like a bit of an outsider here (through the fault of no one). I don't do a lot of the wrestling discussion, mainly because I haven't followed wrestling that closely in a while. Came over with the WC shut down, so take my opinion for what you will.

Banning links to Twitter doesn't actually accomplish much of anything. Elon (who is an absolute shitbag, not debating that) isn't going to notice if a wrestling message board no longer allows links to his platform. The same can be said for banning links to Meta sites. And I say that as someone who doesn't have X/FB/IG or any of the other ones. All it does is limit what people can share and see on a forum that's built primarily around a specific interest: wrestling.

Forums as a whole are already being backed into a corner on the internet. Wrestling forums even moreso. Wrestling forums cater to a niche (wrestling fans) of a niche (message board users) Putting limits in place as to what kind of links to wrestling content people can share is just not a good move for the future of this site.

What happens when Musk, Zuck, or some other billionaire makes an offer on Bluesky and Jay Graber takes it? We ban Bluesky links? Then what? This just seems like a kneejerk reaction that doesn't accomplish anything but has the potential to slow down interaction.

I don't expect anyone to really agree with me, and that's OK. I voted "No" just because I think it's a pointless step to take.

I don’t think anyone is saying they think us banning will make a difference to Elon. It’s more of a morality of this board stance. We can’t do much but we can do this

apathy is the best friend of these guys. Saying "nothing will change if I don't do this" is exactly what they want. They want you to do nothing.

I get what you are saying and respect you opinion. I just think you've come to the wrong conclusion.

I was having this debate with someone the other day. I told them Twitter is from my experience the most toxic of any social media platform. Like, before Musk got it, it was less toxic, still toxic, but less so. But like it’s just bad.

Doing Something is greater than Doing Nothing. Doing Nothing changes things 0%. Doing Something might change something, even if it's 0.1%. We need to stop giving up before we even try, no matter how dire the world is.

This is something within our control. Why not do it and at least TRY?

I also disagree this would do anything to stop engagement at all here. WS ain't going anywhere, X or not.

Even before Trump announced his campaign for the 2016 election, Twitter was toxic.

And that's fine. I just think it's a bit insulting to say that not using a Twitter/X link somehow makes someone (or in this case, a forum) morally superior. I bailed out on Twitter years before Musk bought it. Think I shut down my account in late 18/early 19. It's always been a shit show, but I don't think there's some sort of morality that should be attributed to those who don't use it compared to those who do.

last point - people say kneejerk

I say last straw.

Look at the OP picture, are we so far removed from reality that we just shrug off people Sieg Heilig?

Or how about, more importantly, that Mr. Musk wants members of this board to literally die and not exist?

When is enough enough for some people I wonder?

How is it insulting? We're trying to do the right thing...why are you insulted at all if you don't even use it?

No one is saying people are imoral for using it, we are saying the owner is imoral and there are many other platforms we can use. We do not need to support a transphobic nazi while simultaneously promoting a safe environment for them.

hell I would say THAT is insulting to our loved members.

Now that is dumb. Calling for your own blood to be murdered. Your children should be your life and joy.

The only logical argument I've seen so far is Blaze and he's voting yes - and we already found solutions to his concerns.

This is it. It's about getting behind people who are being attacked more than ever. People like me.

I'm going to say it - if a majority of users decide their convenience is more important, I don't think I can stay any longer

I would also say, for those concerned about Joshi stuff or NJPW things, there are alternatives to Twitter, such as LINE or Niconico, which are Japanese based.
