Re: Former WWE Champion Back With WWE *Payback Spoilers*

The guy can't cut a promo, can't throw a convincing punch or kick to save his life, and is going to flop on out of a nostalgia pop within a few months.

Pass.
And then we live in the real world where RVD couldn't do any of that shit 10+ years ago when he was busting Austin, Rock, Angle, Taker open and still getting a pop out this world. The fucker will always be over, he will always sell, and he will always be cool much like a Jeff Hardy inside a WWE environment ... Just a fact of life.

Hell they can use him to bolster the IC title division, give him the US title run he never had, give ADR an over challenger to get sd viewership up, or team him with Booker/Rey/Kane all of whom he won gold with vs the Shield

Re: Former WWE Champion Back With WWE *Payback Spoilers*

was just reading some of the reactions of some of the other wrestlers when asked about RVD returning and this one kind of stuck out....
Damien Sandow: "I am not threatened by any man whose name is three letters."..........:hhh2:

This was probably a Triple H move, which is surprising considering how both men feel about each other.

Either way, I haven't enjoyed Van Dam in about 10 years. He'll provide a midcard/main event face, but probably won't do anything of note.

He'll get pulled over and busted for weed in 6 month's time and will go on RF Video and claim it was a setup again

Re: Former WWE Champion Back With WWE *Payback Spoilers*

If this was 4 years ago, I would've cared. But after seeing him slum it in tna and not giving a fuck about his big push there, I'm more inclined to just see how long his run will go. Is he honestly there to help establish new stars? Or is he there simply for a payday? And who ever called him a draw is smoking something. ECW didn't do better than smackdown nowadays, and that brand was getting the major push. He didn't bring in more interest to tna and his straight to DVD movie was seen by me and four other people, which is sad because a lot of people mused the epic Batista shooting Ja Rule in face scene.

Good news. I always liked RVD and with the current WWE structure he will fit in well in the veteran face role.

WWE approached Rob Van Dam 2 1/2 to 3 weeks ago about making a return, he did not approach them. Van Dam had agreed to work 2-3 independent dates for one promotion but after agreeing with WWE, went back and told the promoters that he could only work 1 date.

As noted, Van Dam will be working part time and will not be going on the road. His new short-term deal has him working TV shows, select live events and upcoming pay-per-view events. WWE creative reportedly has a storyline and a feud in place for him to begin at Money in the Bank.

So does he just work MITB and SummerSlam and then disappear before returning as a suprise entrant in the Rumble? Not much detail in the report since a short term deal could mean anything from one to six months. It is actually pretty smart to use him in small bursts to ensure that the nostalgia doesn't wear off.

Lost interest in Van Dam years ago has to be one of more overrated wrestlers of recent years.

A one off appearance a year could work, but I don't think he is a big enough draw to appear more than that.

And Jericho is big or good enough to come and go for months at a time and get ppv billing?

In what world? He's never been a draw, his band has never hit it as big as fucking Cenas rap cd, his book signings and autograph sessions away from wwe are Virgil esque by his own admission, and his shows have all had the plug pulled from them.

Jericho is reliable which is what separates the two, but he just like Rob Van Dam is a B list hall of fame guy. Neither are guys like Cena, Taker, Dave, etc who draw, sell out arenas, and you put as the guy for months on end across the globe.

Jericho is just more of a darling on the Internet (not close to RVD in arenas tbh), but he's not in a different tier at all when it comes to stardom, as he's never been that great

You also said "good enough" and Jericho definitely has Van Dam beat there. Neither of them are draws, but Jericho is more reliable like you said so of course he's going to be seen better and get better opportunities and exposure.

I'm saying Rob has a much right to be apart time TV worker as him when the payoff was argued. Much like Jericho the true payoff for giving this deal to RVD is putting on a good match and helping guys get over. Its not money, just like Jericho working the schedule isn't in the end of the day because he will not make the company heaps of money like Taker or Trips or Dave (who will inevitably be back) or Brock by working a match.

Jericho is reliable, you can give him a title without reservation, i will admit that, but that doesn't make him anymore deserving of part time schedule than a RVD to me when the other guys who are on one actually draw viewers and dollars. Hell tbh to me, Rey is more deserving of the TV and ppv deal than RVD or Jericho based on merit of what he brings to the company (that and he always gets hurt because he tried to go back to working the road when he returns every single time)

Thats what I mean when I say RVD can have a part time TV and ppv deal too if Jericho can. I mean I will say RVD was the biggest dumbass there was outside for what he did while having both titles and a brand in the palm of his hands, but at the end of the day the guy had worked 5 years before then without incident of arrest, DUI, or anything as well so he's about as reliable as guys like Orton or Jeff who were given trust again eventually

But Jericho's part-time schedule is a lot different than what RVD's more than likely will. When he's on the roster, he works full-time, live events, Smackdown, etc. every week so the comparison between the two isn't really warranted. Jericho worked full-time in WWE from 1999-2005, then from 2007-2010, Jan 2012-August 2012, and now Jan 2013 to present, all full-time runs. RVD will more than likely be used like Brock, only probably less and not even close to as high profile.

Did jericho work live events the deal before when he faced Punk at Mania? I'm assuming robs will be more like Shawn's used to be, work some Raws weekly and ppv (don't think he will work a lot of sds)
